LIFE MEMBERSHIP

Congratulations to Paul Gardam Paul is a long time member of the NW Pony Club community. He is also a life member of the former North West Pony Club, Life Member of the PCAT North West Zone & was awarded the PCAT 20 year service award in 2002. Paul began as a riding member of the now defunct NW club, only leaving when reaching the “retiring” age of 21. The family rejoined again in 1974 with daughter Jodi as the riding member. He was DC of the NWPC for 3 years from 1990-93, and was president of the Fernpark Pony & Riding club, (an amalgamation of the NW and Penguin clubs) in 2007-09. In the 1980’s Paul became an accredited TD and cross country course designer/builder. Paul designed and was the major course builder for grade 1 trials held at Ridgley in 1992 & 1995, then the course builder for a new grade 1 & 2 trials course in 1998 & 2001. Paul was also on the steering committee and a major contributor to the next two trials courses built at Penguin in 2004 & 2007. He is also a show jump judge and show jump course designer/builder and has been a TD, designed and built courses or judged at many state championships. All his work has been done on a voluntary basis. Paul was president of the Pony Club Association of Tasmania from November 1966 to 2002 during which time he represented the state at the APPC meetings and was its vice president from 2000-2002. He did not seek re-election as president in 2002 but stayed on for a further year as the vice president. During the period 1996 - 2002 Paul was also chairperson of the PCAT North West Zone

GENERAL REGULATIONS

This competition will be conducted under the Equestrian Australia Rules for Eventing, issued 2012 with PCAT addendum August 2012.

Approved helmets (that comply with standard & fit) must be worn for all phases.

Once on the ground, competing horses may only be lunged or ridden by their

competing rider.

Full club uniform must be worn for the Dressage & Show Jumping phases as well as presentation. Club active tops (t-shirt, polo, rugby top or windcheater) may be worn for the cross country phase.

Only District Commissioners or their nominated representative may lodge a query or protest.

Owners of horses will be responsible for any veterinary or farrier costs that may by incurred.

Riders ages are as at 1st January, 2013

The organising committee reserves the right to alter the starting times of any phase. Competitors will be notified of any changes as quickly as possible.

Neither the organisers, nor any person acting on their behalf, accept any legal liability for any loss, damage, accident, injury or illness to horse, spectator or any other person or property whatsoever

In the event of scratchings, competitors will be expected to ride ahead of their advertised draw times (see official noticeboard of updated draw)

Object of the Pony Club Horse Trials

The competition provides Pony Club members with a test requiring courage, determination & all round riding ability & the careful & systematic training of the horse. Its object is to encourage a higher standard of riding in Pony Clubs & to stimulate in future generations a greater interest in riding as a sport & recreation. Club teams may consist of three or four members (if under 17) & associates (17 & under 25).

The Competition The competition consists of three phases; Dressage, Cross Country & Showjumping. Penalties points are awarded in each section, & these are added together to give a final score. The winner is the competitor with the lowest score. The winning team is that team which has the lowest aggregate score of three of its riders who have each completed all three phases of the competition.

Dressage – Phase 1 Dressage Test: The good marks from 0 – 10 awarded by each judge to a competitor for each numbered movement of the dressage test together with the collective marks are added together. Any penalties for errors of course are then subtracted to give the total good marks for each judge & divided by the number of judges. The resulting total is subtracted from the maximum marks obtainable in order to convert good marks into penalties, & rounded to two decimal places.

Cross Country – Phase 2 The course consists of obstacles varying in size & shape. The optimum time is calculated at the rate of 500 metres per minute for Grade 1, 450 metres per minute for Grade 2 & 400 metres per minute for Grade 3. Faults will be incurred for times greater than this. There are no bonus points for lesser times, however penalties will be incurred if the time taken is more that 20 seconds faster than the optimum time.
