GENERAL HORSE RULES & REGULATIONS

1. Nominations for all Ring Events will be by Ticket System. Tickets will be available from the ringside office on the day of the Show.

2. Entry fees are $3.00 unless otherwise stated. 3. Prize money will be available from the Ring Office. Prize money not collected on day of show

will be forfeited. 4. If an event is held, entry fee will not be refunded. 5. No competitor is to wear any ribbons, badges whilst being judged. 6. In the case of a dispute, a protest in writing by the competitor may be lodged with the Ring

Steward not later than half an hour after the event and accompanied by a deposit of $50 which will be forfeited if such protest is considered frivolous or vexatious by the committee whose decision is final.

7. No person under disqualification recognised by the society may exhibit or compete. 8. District classes are confined to residents using postcodes: 4600, 4601, 4605, 4606, 4608,

4610, 4611, 4612, 4613 and 4615. 9. A MAIDEN is a hack that has not won a maiden class in competition at an affiliated show.

After winning a maiden hack class this horse will be recognised as a Novice. 10. A NOVICE is a horse, Galloway or pony not having won a champion ribbon at any agricultural

show or a first ribbon at any royal show. 11. No STALLION will be allowed to compete in hack classes unless stated in schedule. 12. All stallions and colts must be correctly bitted and suitably restrained whilst in hand and the

Judge/Ring Steward in Charge shall have the right to disqualify any exhibit, if in their opinion, such exhibit is not able to sufficiently be controlled in a safe manner for judging to continue. The exhibit will be ineligible to compete in the class in which it is entered or paraded and upon such disqualification the exhibit shall forthwith be removed from the judging ring.

13. Where the height is stipulated for hacks, Galloways and ponies, E.F.A. and Hack Council certificates may be used. There is an official measurer on the grounds. ALL CERTIFICATES OF MEASURING MUST BE SHOWN ON ENTERING THE JUDGING RING.

14. Age of horses will date from 1st August of each year. 15. Pony hacks must not exceed 14hh. 16. Pony hacks must be ridden by a rider under 17 years of age. 17. A Galloway shall be over 14hh and not exceeding 15hh. 18. A Galloway cannot compete in other hack classes unless otherwise stated. 19. A steward may at any time require a person who does not appear to be able to ride or

handle any horse to dismount and allow other persons to handle the horse or leave the ring. 20. Any person riding a horse at the show, must wear protective headgear to the current

Australian, European or American standard. The retaining harness must be secured and fastened always. Riders without approved headgear shall be ineligible. Correct footwear to be worn—NO SNEAKERS. Appropriate dress always i.e. shirt and tie/ratcatcher, riding coat.

21. Whilst in the main arena, exhibitors and competitors will be under the direction of the chief steward and the stewards in charge of the respective judging rings.

22. The Society accepts no responsibility if judging times conflict with one or more classes or events in which an exhibitor may be entered. Where a conflict may occur, it is the responsibility of the exhibitor to notify a withdrawal of either event. No ring shall be required to wait for a competitor and exhibitor who may be competing in another ring.

23. No ribbons other than those won at the current Murgon Show are to be worn on parade or displayed.

24. The Society reserves the right to substitute any special prize which may be donated later for any scheduled prizes.

25. A judge or official at any time may exclude any horse, rider or handler from the contest anywhere on the Showgrounds or for being guilty of UNSPORTSMANLIKE or AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOUR towards a judge, official or other competitor. The Chief Steward shall be the sole judge of what constitutes cruelty.

26. An exhibit to which a prohibited substance has been administered in breach of the by-laws must be removed from the Showgrounds upon demand by the Society. Details of prohibited drugs are in the QCAS Rules.

27. Any exhibit suffering from infections or contagious disease shall be reported immediately to the Chief Steward who will order its removal.

28. Stewards shall remove exhibitors and other persons from the vicinity of the judges while judging.

29. All competitors ride at their own risk. 30. Electric fences are not allowed on the Showgrounds. 31. Owner or person in charge of stock must ensure that the cattle tick requirements are

adhered to. Murgon Showgrounds is in the tick area. 32. No prize money will be posted. PRIZE MONEY MAY BE SUBSTITUTED WITH TROPHY,

PRODUCT or VOUCHERS 33. Show Treasurer can be found in the Show Office. 34. Horse Health Declaration Form to be completed by every entrant. Form can be accessed at

www.murgonshowsociety.com/events 35. Ponies can be ridden by adults. 36. Murgon Show Society PIC number: QEMG1000 37. Horse movement records to be on hand of owner. 38. RECIPES

DARK CHOCOLATE CAKE Ingredients

¼ lb butter; 5oz sugar; 3 eggs; 1 tbsp raspberry jam; 1 cup flour; ½ tsp baking soda; ½ tsp cream of tartar; 1 tbsp cocoa.

Method Cream butter and sugar well. Add eggs previously beaten. Add jam, flour, baking soda, cream of tartar. Dissolve cocoa in ¼ cup of boiling water and add to mixture. Bake in round 18-20cm tin for 1 hour. Ice on top with chocolate icing.

COFFEE CAKE Ingredients

1 tbsp coffee essence dissolved in 2/3 cup of milk; 1 tsp vanilla essence; 4oz butter; 2 cups SR flour; 2 eggs; 1 cup castor sugar; pinch of salt.

Method Place all ingredients (except flour) into bowl and beat until smooth. Add sifted flour and stir until smooth. Place in round 20cm tin which has been prepared. Bake in moderate oven for approx. 45 mins. Ice on top with coffee icing when cold.

COCONUT BISCUITS Ingredients

6 x 20ml spoons butter; ½ cup castor sugar; 1 egg; vanilla essence; 1 ¾ cup SR flour; pinch of salt; 4 tbsp coconut; a few cherries.

Method Beat butter and sugar. Add egg and beat well. Add vanilla essence gradually. Add sifted flour, salt, coconut then mix. Place small spoonful on greased tray. Place a small piece of cherry on top of each biscuit. Bake in moderate oven until brown.

Method Thoroughly blend butter and sugar. Beat in eggs, golden syrup and pumpkin puree; Mix in dates and mixed peel. Sift flour, spices, bicarbonate of soda and fold into mixture. Spoon mixture into the prepared pan and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Bake for 20-25 mins.

PEANUT BUTTER BISCUITS Ingredients

½ cup brown sugar; ½ cup castor sugar; ½ cup melted butter; 1 egg; 1 cup peanut butter; 1 ½ cups SR flour; 1 tsp vanilla essence; ½ tsp salt.

Method Combine sugars, add melted butter and lightly beat in egg, then beat well. Gradually add sifted flour and remaining ingredients. Blend thoroughly. Place teaspoonfuls of mixture on greased tray and press with a fork. Bake for 15mins in moderate oven. Makes approx.. 2 dozen.

CUSTARD BISCUIT KISSES (Jam filled) Ingredients

4ozs butter; 4ozs castor sugar; 2 eggs; 4ozs cornflour; 5ozs SR flour. Method

Mix ingredients together and place small amounts on greased tray. Dust with icing sugar. Bake in not too hot an oven.

DATE, CHERRY & WALNUT FINGER Ingredients

125g butter; 5g brown sugar; 1 egg; 1 dsrtsp syrup; 1 cup chopped dates; ½ tsp vanilla essence; ¾ cup SR flour; 1 ¼ cup plain flour; pinch of salt; chopped cherries and walnuts.

Method Beat butter and sugar. Add egg, syrup, dates, vanilla and mix. Add sifted flour and salt. Press into tin and sprinkle nuts and cherries on top. Bake in moderate oven for 20-25mins.

Hints for Needlework Exhibition

• Machine-made - presentation and suitability of material to style of fabric and pattern; suitability of trimming to finished design; suitability of seam finish: over-locking is not compulsory, but neatly finished seams are recommended by chosen method; single thread used in hemming;

• Embroidery - design, cleanliness and neatness, blending of colours, choice and tension of stitching, suitability of material to finished article and each work are taken into consideration;

• Canvas, Bargello and Needlepoint - suitability of material to finished article, choice of stitches, blending of colours and back of finishing;

• Patchwork and Quilting - suitability of material to finished design, cutting and sewing (machine and hand sewing are stated in schedule); evenness of stitches and padding. NB: unless stated in schedule;

• Appliqué - suitability of material to finished design (machine or hand-sewn are stated in schedule), evenness and one or variety of stitches used in contribution to overall effect, evenness of application;

• Crochet - no knots where threads are joined. Block items even;

• Knitting - threads are specified in class. Cotton/wool-based thread, wool or mix shall be deemed to include wool/synthetic base. Tension and finishing of article shall be taken into overall consideration;

• Coat-hangers, Household Articles - practicality, presentation and even padding. Cushions—line, cut and filling suitable for use;

• Framed Articles—Article needs to be blocked before being mounted on board. Lacing of items needs to be firm and even. Back of article needs to be neatly finished.

1. Competitors are permitted to enter the competition at any number of local Shows; 2. If a competitor wins a class at one Show, they may still compete at other Shows; 3. The Class Winner can only represent ONE CLASS AND ONE SHOW at Sub-Chamber Level and

that Show is the one at which they FIRST WON, IRRESPECTIVE OF THE NUMBER OF Shows entered;

4. All entrants, spectators and vehicles enter at their own risk; 5. No claim in any form shall be made by entrants or by their heirs, successors, executors

personal representatives or assigns against the Society or persons associated; 6. All vehicles entered must be registered by the department of transport; 7. All QLD road rules apply to the entrant whilst in the grounds; 8. Excessive noise from person or vehicle, peed, burn-outs, donuts, dangerous driving or

driving under the influence or unnecessary movement of vehicle, will NOT be tolerated; 9. Offenders will be disqualified and directed to leave without a refund entry money; 10. Management reserve the right to use/publish, any/all photos taken along with the results; 11. The judge's decision is final, and no correspondence will get entered into; 12. All coming through gate will pay gate price; 13. Local Class entrants are not eligible for Sub-Chamber. Sub-Chamber winner is eligible for

State finals and should check with Show Secretary regarding rules at this level; 14. We would appreciate utes to participate in Grand Parade at 2pm.
