Page XXXIX – 1 st line – the URL is incorrect. Change the last two digits “28” to “1X”.

Page 100 – 2 nd to last paragraph – current last sentence that fills most of the last three lines(begins “The least-calculated cost win;…”) – the sentence is missing a tiebreaker. To fix theproblem, replace this last sentence with: “The least-calculated cost wins. If a tie occurs, theswitch chooses as root port the port connected to the best neighboring switch port, based onthe following three tiebreakers, in order: lowest neighbor bridge ID, lowest neighbor portpriority, and lowest neighbor internal port number. (Note that the switch considers onlyneighbors in the tied least-cost path for these tiebreakers.)”

Page 101 – bottom, step 4 – replace text with “If the costs tie, use these tiebreakers, in order:lowest neighbor bridge ID, lowest neighbor port priority, and lowest neighbor internal portnumber.”

Page 140 – last paragraph – 2 nd to last line – “early collisions” should be “late collisions”.

Page 152 – last line – last word – change “Forwarding” to “Blocking”

Page 165 – Step list at bottom of page – step 6 – last line – reference to R1 should be R2.

Page 186 – Figure 4-8 – to make the example on pages 192-193 correct, add a small LANsubnet on the right side of R1, connected to R1, with subnet text listed as “168.200.2.0/24”.

Page 192 – Example 4-11 – Just above the line that reads “168.13.0.0/24 is subnetted…”, addthese two lines:

168.200.0.0/24 is subnetted, 1 subnet

R 168.200.2.0 [120/1] via 168.13.100.1, 00:00:13, Serial0.1

Page 247 – Figure 6-5 – far right – the numbers are overlapped. The IP address on the right is172.16.3.1, and the mask in the middle of the overlap is /24.

Page 264 – Figure 6-10 – the access-list commands at the bottom of the figure are missingeither the ip or tcp keywords. On the left, the 1 st command is missing tcp , and the 2 nd ismissing ip . On the right, the 1 st and 3 rd are missing ip , and the 2 nd is missing tcp .

Page 293 – 1 st of two bullets – the behavior is actually based on whether the interface isshutdown or not. To adjust, keep the first sentence, but replace the rest of the text for thisfirst bullet item with:

Once detected, if the newly-configured interface is not shutdown, the router simplyrejects the ip address command and lists an error message. If the interface is

shutdown, the router actually accepts the ip address command, but will not leaveshutdown state until the overlap condition has been resolved.

Page 314 – Figure 8-3 – top part – text between routers A and B “ Bandwidth 1544 ” –change to “ Bandwidth 64 ”.

Page 367 – list item 2 – IOS actually chooses to consider interfaces based on the interfacestatus being up, not both the line and protocol status. To fix, in item 2, replace “up/up” with

“up”, and delete “and protocol”. In list item 3, replace “up/up” with “up”.

Page 569 – paragraph after step list – bold command – insert a “1” after “list”

Page 587 – Five instances of “octet” should be changed to “quartet”. Four instances are in thefirst long paragraph on this page, and the fifth instance is in the last line on the page.

Page 594 – 595 – Instead of setting the 7 th bit of the EUI-64 host part to binary 1, instead youinvert the bit’s value (0 becomes 1, or 1 becomes 0). To make this change in the text:

Page 594, 2 nd to last line, change “setting 1 special bit to binary 1” to “inverting onespecial bit”.

Page 595 – figure 17-7 – text at center bottom – change to “Invert 7 th Bit (ReadingLeft to Right) in First Byte”.

Page 595 – 2 nd paragraph – 3 rd line – change “…setting the seventh…” to “…invertingthe seventh…”. At the end of that same line, change “…of the value to binary 1.” to “…to the opposite binary value.”

Page 595 – 2nd

paragraph – end of 2nd

to last line – delete the last sentence.

Page 667 – “public key” – in the first words of the definition, change “A secret value…” to “Apublicly-available value…”.

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/9781587201813errata111411 3/8

STP tiebreaker mistake – the tiebreakers based on port priority and a switch’s internal portnumber, as described at the end of the paragraph, are incorrect. The tiebreakers are based onpriority, and then internal port number, but instead of the neighbor’s settings, which are listedin the BPDU. Two fixes, pages 92 and 100 below.

Page 92 – 2 nd paragraph – last 6 lines, beginning where it reads “When a switch experiences atie…” – replace the rest of the paragraph with:

“When a switch experiences a tie because of two or more links to the same switch, thelocal switch (SW1 in this example) must use another tiebreaker. The two tiebreakers, the switch port priority, and if a tie, then the switch internal port number, is based onthe neighbor’s settings, as advertised in the BPDU. (These settings are listed under theheading “Prio.Nbr” in the output of show spanning-tree .) In this case, SW2 usesdefault settings for port priority (128), so the BPDUs SW1 receives on both ports tieon port priority. SW2 also defaults the internal port numbers to 16 and 17 (for Fa0/16and Fa0/17, respectively), causing SW1 to use its local Fa0/16 (connected to SW2’sFa0/16) as SW1’s root port.”

Page 96 - 2nd to last paragraph - last line - phrase "...either on or desirable...", change to"...desirable...".

Page 100 – 2 nd to last paragraph – 2 nd to last line currently begins “…picks the interface withthe…” – replace the rest of the paragraph, starting at that point, with:

“…picks the interface connected to either the neighboring switch’s port with the lowestpriority, or if that ties, based on the neighbor’s lowest internal port number.”

Page 133 – 1 st paragraph after the table – 3 rd line from the bottom – reference to “Gi0/1” should be “Gi0/2” to match earlier reference.

Page 230 - Chapter 6 – DIKTA question 8 – Answer D – change text “…from ACL configurationmode…” to “…from global configuration mode…”

Page 253 – bottom of page 253 – last paragraph – the two bold commands – delete the text “ ip ” in each command; it is not needed in the syntax of either command.

Page 351 – figure 9-2 – right side – the 2-way state is not reached by R2 until it receives the3 rd message in the figure, so move the text “2-way” on the right to the bottom of the figure.

Page 459 – Chapter 13, DIKTA Question 5, Answer D – the end of the answer should bechanged from “… DLCI 102” to “… DLCI 101”.

Page 547 – Chapter 16 – DIKTA question 6 – Remove answer E, and change last line of thequestion, which reads “…identifies the hosts.”, to “…indirectly identifies the hosts.”

CD Appendix F – Page 7 – first paragraph – reference to subnet 172.20.87.0/26 shouldinstead be to subnet 172.20.86.0/26.

9 th Printing(Applies to previous printings as well)

Page 139 – example 3-8 – last line of text before the thick black line – begins “Gi0/2” – underthe previous line’s heading “Vlan”, the text reads “1”. Replace with “trunk”. Make the samechange in the same example, on the next page, for SW3’s Gi0/1 interface.

7 th Printing(Applies to previous printings as well)

Page 41 – example 1-5 – 5 th line from the bottom (begins "MD5 digest…" – the hex value onthis line is incorrect; it should instead be identical to the value displayed on SW2, about half-way down page 40, inside the same example.

Page 60 – question 10 – output of show command – in the "Vlan" column, both interfacesshould be listed as in VLAN 1.Page 172 – last paragraph – 4 th line from the end – line begins "use ARP to f ined the defaultgateway's IP address." This phrase should instead end with "MAC address" instead of "IPaddress".

Page 186 – Figure 4-8 – PC on upper right, currently labeled "168.13.200.1" – should be"168.200.1.1". If you make this change, for completeness, on pages 192-193, also change the8 references to "168.13.200.1" to "168.200.1.1".

Page 345 – Question 8 – answer E – delete the word "interface".

Page 412 – example 11-1 – 6 th printed line on the page – command show ip eigrp protocolsis incorrect; it should be listed as show ip protocols .

Page 488 – bottom of page – step 5 – command " frame-relay map ip dlci ip-address …" – thedlci and ip-address parameters should be swapped. Also, make the same change for this samecommand on page 489, step 6b.

Page 500 – 1 st paragraph – 6 th line begins "…command as a subinterface command.". Thissentence should be extended with the text "on multipoint subinterfaces, or as a physicalinterface subcommand." This is because the frame-relay map command is not allowed onpoint-to-point subinterfaces. For this same reason, the last sentence in this paragraph, beginning with "For example, on Atlanta…", should be deleted.

Page 517 – figure 14-8 – box on the left of the figure that lists 101, 103, and 104 – 101should be changed to 102.
