Walz & Krenzer, Inc.

W alz & Krenzer, Inc. (WK) is a whollyU.S. owned small business specializingin the design and supply of custom fab-

ricated watertight and airtight doors, flood barri-ers, and hatches. Since 1939, the company hasoffered a wide range of competitively priced man-ual and power operated doors, flood barriers, andhatches designed to seal any size opening againstwater, chemical, air, and blast pressure. WK offersunparalleled experience in the design of customwatertight closures, from the most simple floodbarriers to complex power operated (hydraulic/pneumatic) gates and doors.

PRODUCT OVERVIEWAll WK closures are custom designed and manufac-tured to your specifications. Closures can be designedto comply with FEMA, radioactive, blast, or otherrequirements. Watertight doors, hatches, and floodbarriers are supplied for any size opening, and can bedesigned to withstand almost any pressure require-ments. All closures can be operated either manuallyor with hydraulic or pneumatic controls.Compression, lip seal, or inflatable gaskets in theclosure’s panel are secured against the closureframe by securing devices to provide an effec-tive watertight or airtight seal. Installation isachieved by either bolting or welding theframe to an existing structure or by embeddingan integral masonry frame in newly pouredconcrete. All closures are available in steel, alu-minum, or stainless steel. Prior to release formanufacturing, all WK drawings are approved byin-house licensed Professional Engineers.

T he lip seal flood barrier offers the flush silladvantage of inflatable gasket floodgates, plus the following additional benefits:

• Ease and speed of use; just place the panelin the frame and slide the latch bolts tosecure. There are no gaskets to inflate orbolts to tighten.

• Increased reliability; there is no inflatablegasket that could lose air pressure.

• Minimal frame construction offersimproved aesthetics.

• Lower costsLip seal flood barriers are available in hinged orremovable configurations. Openings wider than10’ often require multiple panels with remov-able braces. Large panels may be supplied withmounted rollers for ease in transportation andinstallation.Single panel lip seal flood barriers have a verysmall (2") corner radius. These flood barriersoffer a fully watertight seal and are recommend-ed for most applications. The radiused cornersare small enough so as not to present a trippinghazard. In cases where the small corner radiuscreates interference problems or at a junction ofpanels in multi-panel floodgates, square cornerscan be utilized. Very slight leakage may occur atthe square gasket corners, but this leakage rate issignificantly less than the FEMA allowable leak-age rates. When the weight of the removable panel is aconcern, we offer an aluminum composite panelmaterial. Use of this aluminum skinned com-posite material reduces the panel weight byabout 45%.

Models FP-I, FG-I and WT-ID

I nflatable gasket flood barriers and doorsare recommended when a 100% water-tight seal and a flush bottom sill are

required. This type of flood barrier/door is oftenused for inside applications such as labs andclean rooms. Flood barriers are available in bot-tom hinged, side hinged, and removabledesigns. The gasket(s) can be easily inflatedusing a hand or foot pump, portable com-pressed air tank or compressor, bottled gas orshop air. Power inflation/deflation, local andremote activation, and monitoring are amongthe available options. Both the flood barriers and doors are available inboth single and dual inflatable gasket designs. For cost savings, we recommend only using dualgaskets in critical applications. Care should betaken to maintain a clean sealing surface so asnot to damage the gasket.

W atertight and airtight doors are avail-able in either single or double panelconfigurations for any size opening in

both hinged and sliding designs. Compressiongasket doors offer simple, reliable operation forpressures up to 140 psi. Inflatable gasket doorsare typically designed for a maximum of 40 psiand are often used in interior locations.Compression gasket doors are sealed with indi-vidual dogs or a quick-acting mechanism (handwheel or lever), and can be operable from bothor one side. Double doors are often used wherespace or weight constraints are a concern, andare provided without center mullions to allowfor full access. All doors can be provided formanual or power operation, with options suchas local and/or remote indication or operation, and interlocking available. Frames are availablefor bolting or welding to existing masonryopenings or with integral masonry subframesfor embedding in new pour concrete.Watertight/airtight doors are available in bothvertically and horizontally sliding designs.
