Join 4-H Members and Clubs across Illinois and the nation on Saturday, April
27, as part of True Leaders in Service. On this day, show the world how 4-H is
making a difference in your community! 4-H clubs serve their communities all
year long, however; April has been selected as a time for ALL 4-H clubs to
join together and roll up our sleeves in service to local communities. This
could mean helping a person or family in need doing yard work or minor
home repairs; cleaning up streets or parks, planting trees or gardens;
supporting your local food pantry, or any other project that supports a local
need. While community service can happen all year long, if 4-H members and
clubs plan to engage in service efforts before the end of April, they should
plan to register their effort on the National 4-H True Leaders in Service website prior to Saturday, April 27. The website
opens March 1 @ https://4-h.org/get-involved/true-leaders-in-service/. Community Service resources are available now!
The goal of the 4-H True Leaders in Service day is to encourage 4-H members in every county to make a positive
difference. Service projects can be done by individuals; by 4-H clubs; or as a county-wide service project. No matter
what the project is, this will be a day to make a difference. Illinois members and/or clubs who complete the 5 steps
below can claim a “national” 4-H activity on their end-of-year 4-H Experience Award Application.
Register your event beforehand at: https://4-h.org/get-involved/true-leaders-in-service/ through the National 4-H
Council website.
Go to go.illinois.edu/4Hservice and find helpful resources – the Illinois resources are also posted on the National 4-H
True Leaders in Service website.
Promote your event on social media using #thats4H and #TrueLeaders. Tag @illinois4H for a chance at fun
prizes for your club!
Complete your event then use the link to go back to the National 4-H True Leaders in Service site to REPORT
the number of youth and adults who volunteered/participated in the service project; number of hours youth and
adults were involved in the service effort; and upload photos of the event in action.
Go to go.illinois.edu/4Hservice after your event and submit a report on what you did.
We want you to register and report using both the National and State links so we do not miss any of the great things that
is happening across Illinois and also to ensure that you qualify for the national 4-H activity experience!
FUN FACT – Illinois 4-H had more True Leaders in Service activities conducted and reported than ANY OTHER
STATE in 2018! Let’s see if we can go even bigger in 2019!
NOTE: Looking for funding support to conduct community service outreach in your community? Farm Credit
Illinois is ready to help Illinois 4-H clubs and FFA chapters bring positive and visible change to Illinois communities!
Fifty $500 Community Improvement Grants are available. Clubs must be located in one of the 60 central and southern
Illinois counties served by Farm Credit Illinois. Check if your club is eligible and apply today at farmcreditIL.com.
Be sure to contact your LOCAL EXTENSION OFFICE BEFORE applying for this grant to ensure you follow all
fiscal requirements!
