Subject:   L3  Probability   Standard:   91585   Total  score:   12

Q   Grade  score   Annotation

1   M5

In  part  aii  the  candidate  chose  the  usual  test  for  independence,  calculated  the  appropriate  probabilities  and  made  the  correct  decision.

In  part  biii  a  Venn  diagram  was  chosen  to  model  the  situation,  but  the  candidate  came  unstuck  when  trying  to  place  the  frequencies  in  the  correct  regions.

2   A3

In  part  ai  the  candidate  modelled  the  data  correctly  using  a  table  and  selected  the  correct  information  to  calculate  the  required  conditional  probability.

In  part  aii  selected  two  appropriate  issues,  but  failed  to  acknowledge  that  they  could  be  possible  reasons  why  information  from  one  day  may  not  be  representative  of  other  days.

3   A4

In  part  ai  the  correct  and  appropriate  value  was  calculated,  but  the  candidate  did  not  indicate  how  this  value  supported  the  statement.

In  part  aii  there  was  not  recognition  that  the  required  entries  in  the  second  column  on  the  probability  tree  are  conditional  probabilities.

In  part  bii  the  candidate  only  considered  gaining  a  one  on  one  spinner,  rather  than  a  score  of  one  on  all  three  spinners.
