HOSPITALITY AND TOURISMIn order to meet the high demand in the coming years for quality skilled workers in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry, West Credit is excited to offer this unique program. The Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) at WCSS involves students completing a package of courses that meets the needs of all students with an interest in developing the skills necessary for a career in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry. The Hospitality and Tourism Industry acknowledges and supports the program through certification and appropriate industry placements. Students may be able to participate in a partnership with Humber College where they could earn 8 advance standing college credits.

In order to complete a SHSM in Hospitality and Tourism students: 1. Complete a package of 9 specific courses (see chart below). 2. Complete Industry Certification. 3. Obtain job experience (e.g. co-op work experience, job shadowing, job twinning). 4. Document the industry essential skills using the Ontario Skills Passport.5. Gain “Reach Ahead Experience” (e.g. through an apprenticeship program or post secondary institution).
