8 th Grade Summer Reading Assignment Due: _______________ Tic-Tac-Toe: Each student is responsible for completing 1 activity from the following list. The activity does not have to come from any certain row or column. Scene It! Pick a pivotal scene from the novel to dramatize. Record the scene using digital technology. Props, musical instruments, prerecorded music and costumes may be used. Performances may be no longer than five minutes. Dear Diary Pretend to be one of the main characters from your novel and write a diary entry from their point of view. Explain how this character is thinking/feeling about a pivotal event, major decision, etc. Reflect on what is happening as well as how the character may be changed. (Must be over one page.) Book Trailer Prepare a video trailer for your chosen novel. The trailer should be 3-5 minutes long, and a positive presentation of the subject. As an investigative reporter, you sneak into the home of the main character in your novel. Report at least 10 items that you find and include a picture (hand- drawn or digital) for each item. Also, include a written explanation (2-3 sentences per item) identifying how each item connects to the main character. Probability Poster

Create a poster using Word or Power point given the following options:

*A poster that describes the meaning of probability using words and images.

*A poster that shows a specific math problem and its solution involving probability.

*A poster that gives a summary or uses poetry to describe many different aspect of

probability.

All posters should include:

*A catchy phrase or title that is easily seen

*A brief summary, description or narrative

The Wave

Choose one of the following activities to complete for Chapters 1-7 and one for

Chapters 8-17. Two different activities should be chosen.

1. Answer questions assigned to the chapters asked on the back of this paper.

Follow the directions given at the top of the page.

2. Create a character map for 2 characters including: their name, general

description of the character, physical traits, mental traits, social traits, emotional

traits, and a quote that represents the character. Information should be organized

in a creative way.

3. Create a mini dictionary for high level vocabulary found in the novel. This mini

dictionary should contain 25 high level vocabulary including the word, part of

speech, definition, and used in an original sentence.

4. Write 2 page long journal entries written from Robert Billings’ point of view.

Consider what he has been asked to do, how he feels about it, and how he might

think others view him now.

5. Create a poster (half sheet of poster board) encouraging students to join The

Wave. Poster must include the motto, symbol, and quotes from members about

why students should join. Include a written sales pitch you think will persuade

students to join. The sales pitch should be a minimum of a paragraph (5-8

sentences).

Ch.1-7 activity is due Thursday, February 23rd.

Ch.8-17 activity is due Thursday, March 9th.
