SECOND HAND UNIFORM SHOPOur volunteers would like to remind parents that a good range of Seabrook garments are available at the Seabrook Uniform shop (2.30pm – 3.30pm) in the meeting room returning to Thursday afternoons from next week. Please drop by and have a look at second hand garments for sale or leave clean, wearable garments to add to the stocks for sale. This week the shop is open from 2.30pm – 3.30pm on Friday afternoon.
CHESS NEWSEight children from Seabrook have qualified to represent our school in the State chess finals this week. We wish them well and thank the parents who have been able to support the transport of the students to the event venue.

CHOCOLATE DRIVE PRIZESSorry for the delay with awarding the prizes for our chocolate drive. Now that we have everything back we are calculating the winners and will announce them shortly. A huge thank you to our volunteer mums who have overseen the distribution and organization of this important fund-raising activity.
We hope to complete the planning of our new adventure play ground very shortly and announce a commencement date for the works. All money raised through various activities will contribute to the costs of the new play area. We are completely rebuilding the existing wooden play area on the south side of the school.
FOOD POLICYSome parents like to acknowledge their child’s birthday at school by bringing in treats for the class. A polite reminder that we ask parents to consider offering something other than sweets.
This chart might be helpful when considering which foods may cause allergic reactions for some of our children. The children who have allergies would appreciate that others have some understanding of foods that may cause them serious health issues.
BOOKLISTS FOR 2019Booklists for your child’s supplies and fees will be sent home soon.
SATURDAY 24TH OF NOVEMBER IS THE VICTORIAN STATE ELECTION.Our school will hold a food stall to coincide with this event. We hope that a large number of parents will be happy to be rostered on to help continue to raise further funds for the playgrounds.

Regional Athletics - Keilor
Congratulations to our 6 students who competed in the Western Region Athletics Carnival at Keilor last week. Faith (6LL) came 2nd in Shot Put (8.28m) despite having a sore leg going into the meet. Great effort! Faith will now compete at the State Athletics at Lakeside Stadium (Monday 29th October).
Ivy (6AU) continued her great form coming 3rd in a closely run 1500m (5.31.52) and just missed out on State qualification. She also came 5th in 800m (2.50.45). Kristian (6JB) came 5th in Shot Put (10.23m) & 13th in Discus (19.82m). Sebastian (6JJ) was consistent in the jumps, coming 7th in Triple Jump (9.53m) and 8th in Long Jump (4.12m). Jared (4AA) came 13th overall in the 100m (15.41) and Brandon came 14th place in Discus (22.66m). Oliver (6JJ) was unable to compete in his events due to illness.

SSV Golf Championships
Congratulations to Maksim (3SP) and Krishan (6SF). They recently competed in the SSV Primary School Divisional level Golf Championships. Krishan competed at East Geelong and came first out of 14 competitors with a score of 37 for 9 holes, qualifying for the Regional Finals.
On Monday at Sunshine Golf Course, Maksim also qualified for the Regional Finals by finishing 6th out of 14 players, with a score of 52. This is a great outcome considering a lot of the students are 2-3yrs older than he is (up to Grade 6) like Krishan, who has participated for the last couple of years. Good luck to both boys in trying to qualify for the State Finals.

Release 10 MacBook 1to1 Update (current parents from Year 2-5)
As you should all be aware by now, Seabrook Primary School is still taking orders for our bulk purchase of MacBook 1 to1 orders (due to take place in early November). To this point however, Apple has not yet released any information on the expected updated Education MacBook. We are still hopeful of an announcement before our bulk order is scheduled to take place, however we can’t guarantee anything concrete until we hear from our certified education reseller. We also know that a number of parents are waiting until early next year to place their order because of this expected announcement. If parents choose to change or order their device early next year, this is totally acceptable, as always, will be subject to an updated quote at time of placing your order. It is only orders for Christmas that we will be placing in early November that we are requiring soon. We will continue to notify parents of any changes (as soon as we hear from them and broadcast them through all the usual online digital channels as per usual.
Over the last 12 months, several watches have been sent to the office without anyone claiming them. So if someone has lost one during this time, come and see Mrs Golomb in the office. Thank you

Electronic waste recyclingElectronic waste (ewaste) is electronic appliances that are obsolete and of no use to their owners. This includes appliances that are powered by batteries or those that plug into electric outlets. Most of these items can be refurbished for reuse or recycled.About 500 illegally dumped televisions and computers are collected by Council each year. Council also collects about 300 electronic waste items monthly including 100 televisions through the hard waste collection service.
Hobsons Bay ewaste recycling event 2018Hobsons Bay residents can recycle their ewaste on Saturday 17 November 2018 from 8am to 3pm. The place to go is Council’s Operations Centre at Sugar Gum Drive, Altona. The service is free for Hobsons Bay residents and a booking is not required. Traffic managers will direct residents in their vehicles to the drop off location inside the Operations Centre, where once stationary, a team of recyclers will remove the ewaste for residents.
Items accepted include computers and computer peripherals, laptops, monitors, cartridges, cables, printers, scanners, mobile phones, cameras, televisions, video and DVD players, CDs, DVDs, GPS, electronic toys, mixers, toasters, microwaves and heaters.
Items not accepted include refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, barbecues, televisions with broken glass, smoke alarms, hazardous waste, batteries in bulk and fluorescent lamps. The event is for residents and a maximum of two televisions and two computers per vehicle will be accepted.
Other places where ewaste can be recycled?Hobsons Bay residents and small businesses can also drop off their television and computers for free at locations established through the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme. A full list of sites in Australia and details of what can be recycled can be found on the Recycling Near You website.
