Today’s Objective:

Mathematical Product:

Study teams will be formed, & TSW* get to know other team members. TSW work together to build symmetrical designs using the same basic shapes. TSW have a brief opportunity at the end of the period to present to the class.

Mathematical Practice / CCSS Standard:

SWBAT**: Model with Mathematics: In this lesson TSW model with mathematics as they construct a symmetrical design.

*TSW = The Student Will **SWBAT = Student Will Be Able To

Grading Today’s Assignment

Grading Criteria: 1) Teamwork 2) Following Instructions

Today’s lesson is all about:

1) Learning your Team Roles.

2) Learning to work cooperatively & productively with your team members.

3) Following written instructions – both in your Textbook & those in the classroom “Employee Handbook.”

As you work, TTW be observing your interactions & taking notes. He will be watching to make sure each team member is performing their roles according to written instructions asking each other appropriate questions. See rubric for specific grading criteria.

Resource Managers: In addition to being responsible for getting materials, RMs should help teammates use the mirrors and protractors. They should call the teacher over for help only after the other teammates have been consulted.

Facilitators: In addition to making sure the team sticks together, Facilitators should make sure that all students understand the task. For each part, Facilitators should choose a new student to read the task aloud. This helps auditory learners understand the directions.

Task Managers: In addition to watching the time closely, TMs should monitor the team and be sure that the other team members are performing their roles.

Recorder/Reporters: Should make sure they are ready to share any patterns the team noticed or any other observations the team made. They should ask students to justify their statements so that they can share these justifications with the class.
