    10External Alarms

    This chapter reviews the external alarm functions which are required to maintain the network includingcurrent alarms and sending and receiving loopback cells. It is organized as follows:

    External Alarms ConfigurationCisco 8110 supports interface alarms per ANSI & ETSI standards for multiplexing equipment. TheAlarm connector pinout is described in Appendix C.The alarm menu can be accessed through the Configuration Menu.

    Step 1 When you login to the Cisco 8110 and type ? at the prompt, the Root Menu is displayed.Step 2 Type any portion of the word configuration and press RETURN. Then type ? and press RETURN.

    The Configuration Menu is displayed. Enter ext_alarms to display the screen shown in Figure 10-1.The parameters are defined in Table 10-1.

    Note After you have executed any of the following commands, you can check your entry for thatcommand. Simply type show at the prompt and press RETURN. The command, togetherwith the entry you typed, is displayed on the screen.

    Figure 10-2 shows the External Alarm Configuration display.SHOW - This command displays the external alarms configuration. At the prompt, type the commandand press return. The type of information shown in Figure 10-2 is displayed.

    ADMIN This command sets the external alarm administrative state. At the prompt, type the commandand press RETURN. The following prompt is displayed:Usage: admin (active|oos)

    DCL_LEVEL This command sets the input level at which an alarm is declared At the prompt, typethe command and press RETURN. The following prompt is displayed:

    Usage: dcl_level (high|low)

    dcl_level sets the declaration level for the external alarms inputs (high or low)name permits the user to provide a name for the external alarms (16

    characters long)onlim enables external alarm output activation for LIM alarmsonvc enables external alarm output activation if more than a specified

    number of VC alarms are declaredout_dcl_level sets the external alarm output relay alarm state

    NAME This command sets a 32 character alarm name At the prompt, type the command and pressRETURN. The following prompt is displayed:

    Usage: name

    ONLIM Select LIM condition for external alarm generation. At the prompt, type the command andpress RETURN. The following prompt is displayed:Usage: onlim (disabled|major|all)

    ONVC This command selects a VC condition for external alarm generation. At the prompt, type thecommand and press RETURN. The following prompt is displayed:Usage: onvc

    OUT_DCL_LEVEL This command selects external alarm output level. At the prompt, type thecommand and press RETURN. The following prompt is displayed:Usage: out_dcl_level (deenergized|energized)

    External Alarms MaintenanceThe External Alarms Maintenance Menu commands are accessible from the Maintenance Menu.

    Step 1 When you log into the Cisco 8110 and type ? at the prompt, the Root menu is displayed.Step 2 Type any portion of the word maintenance and press RETURN Then type ? and press RETURN. The

    Maintenance Menu is displayed.Step 3 Type alarms to display the submenu shown in Figure 10-3.
