Fincor DC DrivesFlexible & Powerful Fincor single-phase DC drives provide a complete family solution – from the compact Series 2120 chassis drive to the powerful Series 2230 MKII and it’s feature rich application specific options.
Fincor drives have earned a reputation for reliability and extensive features which put them a step ahead of the competition. These options are standard on MKII drives and available as noted on other drive series. Some of these features include:
• Isolated Regulator protects internal control circuits from the AC power source, operators and equipment. The control reference input common may be grounded or connected without additional isolation to additional drives or grounded external sources. Isolation eliminates the common condition of line voltage to ground potential being present at the operator station potentiometer.
• External DC Signal Follower includes isolation and impedance matching circuitry to interface an externally supplied grounded or ungrounded, isolated or nonisolated 0-5 VDC, 0-10 VDC or 4-20 mA DC signal source, with the motor controller reference input. This provides a linear transfer of the external signal to motor speed.
• AC Line Starting (Auto-Restart) simplifi es restart control wiring requirements. Also permits run-stop control of unidirectional models by using an external AC line contactor. Smooth starting capabilities are included.
• DC Tachometer Feedback provides wider speed range, improved speed regulation with load changes and reduced sensitivity to operating conditions such as line voltage variations, ambient temperature changes, motor fi eld heating and other operating variables. The controller will automatically transfer to counter EMF voltage feedback to prevent run away if the tachometer circuit is disconnected. Tachometers producing 7 to 150 VDC at maximum motor speed may be used.

CHOOSE NON-REGEN OR REGENERATIVENon-regenerative drives are used when friction or a dynamic brake stopping is adequate. A contactor may be used to achieve reversing operation. Non-regen drives are less expensive than Regen drives when reversing is not required.
Regenerative drives include static reversing and are used when you need four quadrant control or Forward & Reverse operation from a bidirectional control signal (+/- 10 VDC). It will stop the load smoothly and faster than a dynamic brake for fast stop or emergency stop requirements and it will regenerate power to the supply if the load is overhauling (wanting to go faster than the motor set speed).

Non-regenerative drives are typically used on applications which primarily motor in one direction and stopping is achieved through friction or infrequent use of a dynamic braking resistor. These drives may provide speed or torque control from a potentiometer or unidirectional (0-10 VDC or 4-20 mA) control signal. Reversing requires a switch or contact closure to initiate the change. Upon the reversing signal, the drive will allow the motor to coast to a stop (or perform a control stop under a decel ramp with control stop option) or utilize a dynamic braking resistor to pull it to a stop before switching the motor leads with a contactor and starting the motor in the opposite direction.
Fincor Series 2100 drives feature compact size and lowest pricing in chassis, NEMA 1 Panel, NEMA 1, or NEMA 12 enclosures. Chassis units are dimensionally interchangeable with many competitive units. They are ideal for the OEM or panel builder who builds a custom system by integrating the drive into an enclosure with special logic or auxiliary control devices. Enclosed units utilize the enclosure as an integral heatsink and are offered as complete self-contained packages ready for wall or machine mounting.

Series 2100 Detailed Option Descriptions
Option Description
1001E Armature Contactor, 2-Pole with Dynamic Braking — The basic Series 2120 chassis controller is designed for Run-Stop unidirectional operation without an armature contactor. This option provides a two-pole armature contactor which is necessary whenever the application requires a positive disconnection of the rectifi ed armature power source from the motor on a stop command. Action of the contactor is sequenced with the SCR regulator to ensure that the DC power circuit is “phased-off” before the contactor is opened. This results in “Dry switching” for improved contactor longevity. This option also includes dynamic braking which provides exponential rate braking of the DC motor armature. Included is a DB resistor with an anti-plug circuit to prevent restarting the controller until the braking cycle is complete, thereby preventing a potentially damaging electrical surge and mechanical stress. This option permits motor Start/Stop operation by pushbuttons or external logic in 115 or 230 VAC applications. The DB resistor is rated for stopping a typical load, when the external machine inertia does not exceed that of the motor armature, as shown in the table.
1004E Armature Contactor, Reversing, with Dynamic Braking — This option is the same as Option 1001E except two double pole contactors are provided for reversing the DC motor armature rated 1 hp at 90 VDC armature or 3 hp at 180 VDC maximum. Anti-plug protection is provided to prevent armature reversal until a safe minimum speed is attained. The direction of motor rotation is controlled by external RUN/FORWARD-REVERSE pushbuttons, switches or logic. Braking times are same as option 1001E above.
1719 Fuse Block Kit — Kit includes a fuse block, lead wire with spade connectors, and mounting screw. The option provides external line fuse protection for Series 2120 chassis controllers (fuse not included).
1721 Knob and Dial Plate Kit — This option provides a knob and a dial face graduated 0-100% for use with the potentiometer provided with Series 2120 units.
1730A Barrier Terminal Board — 115VAC Kit includes screw terminals for all external wiring, one line fuse holder, and an LED power on indicator in an assembly that plugs piggy-back onto chassis model units. (fuse not included).
1730B Barrier Terminal Board — 230VAC Kit includes screw terminals for all external wiring, one line fuse holder, and an LED power on indicator in an assembly that plugs piggy-back onto chassis model units. (fuse not included).
1731 Dual Connector Terminal Adapter — This option provides a two (male) into one (female) push-on terminal to facilitate connection of Series 2120 units for tachometer feedback and/or inhibit.
1749A Follower, External signal — This option is intended as a low cost alternative which offers greater accuracy and fl exibility. Option 1749A is capable of operating from the following isolated or nonisolated signals: 4-20 DC ma, 0-10 VDC. This option includes a scaling potentiometer for offset adjustment. Dimensions 1.5” (38) X 3.38” (86) X .75” (19).
1760 Heatsink Kit (Flat) — This option consists of an extruded aluminum heatsink and hardware to mount a Model 2122 controller. This heatsink is intended for use only with Model 2122 where its greater heat dissipation permits increasing the units original rated horsepower. Option includes special white silicone grease compound to improve heat transfer. Dimensions: 4.4375” (113) X 6.75” (171) X .875” (22).
1761 Heatsink Kit (Radial) — This option consists of a unique space saving radial design heatsink and hardware to mount to a Model 2122 controller. This heatsink is intended for use only with Model 2122 where it’s greater heat dissipation permits a greater horsepower rating than when using the 1760 Flat Heatsink Kit. Option includes special white silicon grease compound to improve heat transfer. Dimensions: 2” (51) X 1.375” (35) X 4.25” (108).

Fincor Regenerative DC Drives Regenerative adjustable speed drives also known as four-quadrant drives, are capable of controlling not only the speed and direction of motor rotation, but also the direction of motor torque. This is illustrated below.
The term regenerative describes the ability of the drive under braking conditions to convert the mechanical energy of the motor and connected load into electrical energy which is returned (or regenerated) to the AC power source.
When the drive is operating in Quadrants I & III, both motor rotation and torque are in the same direction and it functions as a conventional non-regenerative drive. The unique characteristics of a regenerative drive are apparent in Quadrants II & IV. In these quadrants, the motor torque opposes the direction of motor rotation which provides a controlled braking or retarding force. A high performance regenerative drive, such as the Series 2230, is able to switch rapidly from motoring to braking modes while simultaneously controlling the direction of motor rotation.

Regenerative drives provide reversing without the use of a contactor. This reduces system cost while eliminating moving parts and greatly improving reversing and braking performance.
Although the regenerative drive eliminates the requirement of a contactor for reversing or normal operational braking, a contactor is used if dynamic braking is still required. Although regenerative braking stops the motor and it’s load faster under normal conditions, a dynamic brake may be required to stop the motor and it’s connected load in emergency stop conditions such as drive failure or if the drive enable is removed before the motor comes to a complete stop.

Motor Contactor with Dynamic Braking — The basic series 2230 and 2240 controllers are designed for bidirectional operation without an armature contactor. This option provides a two pole armature contactor which is necessary whenever the application requires a positive discon-nection of the rectifi ed armature source from the motor on a stop command. This option also includes a dynamic braking resistor which provides exponential rate braking of the DC motor armature and an anti-plug circuit to prevent restarting the controller until the braking cycle is complete. The dynamic braking resistor is rated for stopping a typical load, when the external machine inertia does not exceed that of the motor armature.

AC Line Circuit Breaker, Two Pole — Provides a two-pole, magnetic only, fast trip circuit breaker as a means of manually disconnecting the Model 2242 controller from the AC line. The high interrupting capacity fuse in the basic unit is retained as primary short circuit protection.
1015 2600 Magnetic Control Interface for 115VAC control. 1022 2610 Jog, Toggle Switch Selection Option includes a RUN-JOG selector switch and a JOG SPEED potentiometer for installation in the operator control
panel. The RUN-JOG toggle switch (maintained) contacts in the operator station open the contactor seal-in circuit. Controller then jogs when the RUN pushbutton is pressed and held at the JOG SPEED potentiometer setting. Jog action is momentary, causing motor rotation only when the RUN pushbutton is depressed. This option is also suitable for reversing units where identical forward and reverse jog speeds are acceptable.
1036 2240 Four-Quadrant Acceleration/Deceleration — This option board has four adjustment potentiometers consisting of a forward acceleration potenti-ometer, a forward deceleration potentiometer, a reverse acceleration potentiometer and a reverse deceleration potentiometer. The potentiometers have an adjustment range of .3 to 30 seconds.
1037 2600 Input / Feedback Adapter Interface Board - Brings the internal regulator circuits of the control board to screw terminal connection points. 1037A 2600 Input / Feedback Adapter, 1-Position - Assembly capable of accepting either a standard input option board or a feedback option board. 2240Limit Switch Reversing — This option board allows interfacing the controller with a variety of external devices, such as limit switches, push buttons and potentiometers. There are two speed potentiometers on this board, one for forward speed and one for reverse speed. These internal potentiometers can be switched out if external potentiometers are required. In addition, this board will allow a controlled stop feature with an adjustable speed dropout.

AC Current Transducer Follower, Intended for automatic control systems where it is necessary for the drive to follow an AC signal proportional to the load current of an AC constant speed, induction motor. Typical examples are conveying systems where the material feed rate has a direct infl u-ence over the loading of the AC motor, i.e: the carriage or conveyor feeding logs to a saw powered by an AC motor. In order that a proper current transformer may be supplied it is necessary that nameplate data such as horsepower, voltage, load current, etc. be provided from the AC motor.
1052 2240 Isolated Input and Follower — This option board isolates the motor speed potentiometer from the non-isolated controller for operator and equip-ment safety. Also, it will allow the controller to follow a 4-20mA DC current signal and a wide range of DC voltage signals (±.05 to ±500 VDC). This makes the option ideal for following signal transducers, motor shunts, DC tachometer generators and the armature voltage from DC motors.

AC or DC Tachometer Generator Follower, Intended for automatic control systems where it is necessary for the drive to follow the speed of a pre-ceding drive unit or rotating machine coupled to an AC or DC tachometer generator. The tachometer voltage signal provides the speed reference for the “follower” drive. Option 1055 is not recommended for use where multiple drive controllers are required to operate from a common signal source, unless the controllers are isolated.

Digital Pulse Generator Follower, This option provides signal conditioning and isolation for accepting a signal from a magnetic pulse pick-up mechanically coupled to a preceding drive motor, rotating machinery or various static pulse generators permitting the drive to follow at an adjust-able ratio.
1058A 2610 Manual/Follower Mode Select (Toggle Switch) This option is intended as a companion to Option 1055, Option 1049 and Option 1052. Options 1055, 1049 and 1052 do not include a selector switch and rely upon a zero speed setting of the MOTOR SPEED potentiometer to transfer to full automatic control by the external signal. Option 1058A, when used with these options, allows manual switch selection of either the MOTOR SPEED potentiometer or automatic control by the external signal. Option 1058A includes a switch with a MANUAL/FOLLOWER legend plate for installation in the operator control panel.
1059 1 2600 Precision Reference - Includes a regulated power supply.
1059A 2610 This option provides a ±24/12VDC power supply source to provide power to operate a remote transmitter requiring an external power source. It has a power output capability of 100mA total for all the power outputs inclusively. This option requires external mounting by the customer and requires a .5amp fused 115/230V power source supplied by the customer.

Digital Pulse Generator Feedback, Provides signal conditioning and isolation for accepting a signal from a magnetic pulse pick-up mechanically coupled to the drive motor armature. The magnetic pulse pick-up must provide a minimum of 450 pulses per second at motor speed (60 tooth gear on a 1750 RPM motor). The pulse pick-up signal defeats the IR compensation circuitry in the drive controller, making the unit directly sensi-tive to motor speed. Speed range is limited to 35:1. The option results in improved speed regulation with load changes (equal to DC tachometer feedback) and reduced sensitivity to operating conditions such as line voltage variations, ambient temperature changes, motor fi eld heating and other variables.

The circuit includes internal isolation permitting direct connection to a grounded signal source or the arma-ture circuit shunt of another DC drive controller. Since torque is directly controlled independent of motor speed, provision is included for limiting maximum motor speed.

This option may also be used for ratings less than fi ve horsepower when open chassis models must operate in environments greater than 55°C, and enclosed models above 40°C.

Torque Taper— This option consists of a plug-in circuit board. This board provides an inverse-linear speed-torque relationship when operating in the braking (regenerative) mode, and provides constant torque in the motoring mode of operation. Motoring torque and braking torque are indi-vidually adjustable as well as forward and reverse torque taper. Applications include the following: 1. Winders where the material being wound travels at a constant speed during winder roll buildup. 2. Unwinders, since this option provides relatively constant holdback tension (±20%) from full roll to empty roll.

Pulse Tachometer Feedback/Follower — This option interfaces the controller to a pulse train for speed reference or as a feedback signal. The sensor can be a magnetic pickup (2 wire), proximity sensor (3 wire), AC tachometer generator (18 cycles/revolution), two-phase AC tachometer generator, or digital tachometer generator or encoder (240 pulses/revolution). Note: two phase AC tachometer generator can be used for follower or feedback applications, but not both.

Fincor DC MotorsPermanent Magnet DC Motors Series 9300Fincor Series 9300 permanent magnet motors are industrial rated general purpose DC motors designed for use with single-phase DC drives. They provide constant-torque adjustable-speed operation by armature voltage control to base speed. The motors are suitable for a wide range of applications including full power start-stop conditions, continuous high speed operation, precision speed regulation, regenerative braking and reversing, low speed contactor reversing, power off dynamic braking, and crawling duty.
Series 9300 motors feature a permanent magnet field with a conventional wound armature and feature excellent starting torque, speed regulation, dynamic response, and heat dissipation. Series 9300 motors should only be plug reversed when reversing currents are limited to less than locked rotor current.

Fincor DC MotorsShunt Wound DC Motors - Series 9200Fincor Series 9200 motors are industrial rated general purpose DC motors designed for use with single-phase DC drives. Series 9200 motors are shunt-wound, or stabilized shunt-wound and are suitable for constant torque-adjustable speed operation by armature voltage control to base speed. The field winding is typically excited by a separate power supply. With constant armature voltage and field excitation, a shunt-wound motor offers relatively flat speed-torque characteristics.
