OPEN HOUSE

Welcome!

Expectations Electronic Devices, including cell phones and Ipods, are not allowed to be

used in the school building. Cell phones should be turned off during the school day and kept in a locker. Any cell phone or electronic device that is confiscated will be turned into the main office for a parent to pick up. While cell phones are a great communication tool for families, they are a major disruption in the classroom.

Backpacks, string bags, and/or large purses will not be allowed in the classrooms. Each student will have multiple opportunities to go to his/her locker; therefore, it is not necessary for students to bring a bag to class.

Hats and/or hoods are not to be worn in school. Hooded sweatshirts are permitted; however, a student should never have the hood covering their head.

Food, drink, and gum are not allowed in the pod area or classroom.

Bathroom breaks should be utilized in between classes and during lunchtime. Class time is valuable and students are responsible for any instruction missed while out of the classroom. In order to efficiently begin and end classes, students will not be permitted to use the restroom during the first and last five minutes of class. However, when a student must use the restroom during class, he/she must sign out of the classroom and have his/her agenda.

Lockers should only be visited during designated times during the school day. Students are expected to arrive to class on time. If a student is late to class, this will be recorded by the teacher. As per the Appoquinimink Code of Conduct, the consequence for any student that is late to class three times is an administrative referral.

Make-up work will be provided to a student returning from an absence via a Good Neighbor Report. The report will be filled out by a classmate and it will provide information regarding missed class work and homework, assignments that were submitted, and work that was assigned – with any handouts attached. Upon returning to school, a student must pick up their Good Neighbor Report immediately from the designated area in each classroom. Should any questions or concerns arise, regarding the missing work provided for them, the student must meet with the teacher by the end of class.

Late Work PolicyHomework and Process

Grades If homework is not turned in the day that it is due, students have a chance to turn the missed assignment in for partial credit the next day. The late assignment will receive a 50% reduction in grade. Work will not be accepted past 1 day. Please note: some homework assignments will not be accepted late if they have already been reviewed in class.

Product Grades

If long-term projects are not turned in on the day they are due, students have one week to turn in the missed product, for partial credit. Every day that it is not turned in, 10% will be deducted from their final score.

Mathematics

MATH CONTENT Regular Math continues the Math in Context textbook series, and covers many pre-algebra topics (according to the 8th grade common core standards) *Looks very similar to 6th and 7th grade*

Advanced Math begins the Core Plus textbook series, and covers many algebra, geometric, and statistical topics (according to the high school common core standards) *Prepares students to enter Course 2 in high school, if they are successful here.

Warm-Ups Class work that we go over as a class, or is turned in for grading. Items not turned in will given credit through binder checks.

Quizzes (normally announced a few days ahead of time)
