    The Most Revered Jain Pilgrimage Wedged between twostark rocky hills, the legendary pilgrim centre of ShravanBelagola and shrine of the Jains since early times is 150km from Bangalore , 52 km from Hassan and 80 kmfrom Mysore . Shravanbelagola is one of the oldest andmost important Jain pilgrim centres in India.

    The Monolithic statue of Lord

    Gomateshwara, a Jain saint andan object of worship for centuries, standing atop one of the hills (Indragirlhill), is 17 metres high and is said to be one of the tallest and mostgraceful monolithic statues in the world.

    The symmetry in stone was created around 983 AD by Chamundaraya, ageneral and minister of the Ganga, King Rachamatta. This giant statuewas carved out of a single block of stone.

    It is regarded as one of the largest monolithic statues in the world. Lord Bahubali orGomateshwar, the gigantic monolith statue is situated at the famous Manjunath Temple in

    Dharmasthala.

    It symbolises renunciation, self-control and subjugation of ego as the primary steps towardssalvation. The naked Digambara form of Bahubali represents complete victory over earthlydesires.

    It is 110 km north-west of Hyderabad, 40 km north-eastof Gulbarga. Described by historian Simon Digby as

    a sensational stone fort built on a natural bluff risingfrom the plain. Bidar was the capital of the Bahmanikingdom from 1428 to 1489.

    It was besieged by Aurangazeb in 1656 and remained under a sequence of Mughal governorsuntil 1724 when it was swallowed up by the Nizams.The tombs on the plains outside the town aremagnificient. The inner fort, mostly built by Mohammad Shah (1482-1518), is entered through amassive double gateway.

    Beyond lies a complete fort. Inside the entrance on the left is the Rangin Mahal whose rooms areexquisitely bedecked with colored tiles, inlaid with mother of pearl.
