Key Takeaways

(Mr. Pranjal Sharma and Prof. K. Vijayraghavan)

Science needs to be more deeply embedded in society such that technology and innovation come from within so India can become more than a mere implementor of technology coming from elsewhere.

Enormous potential for India in international collaborations for growth in science and technology with a shared vision and internal demands for connectedness and expertise to solve problems.

“Today there is an increased sense of purpose. Water, energy and climate change crises have brought together society, industry and government to bring about change.”

“If only elite is entrenched into developing research - based solutions and if language is a barrier, we will have to import technology. The solution is to go bilingual and put people at the core.”

“We not only need to use technology but be experts at handling data well. We need to engage and train the youth.”

“There are three things that are an opportunity in India today for transforming India in a scientific manner: availability of energy, revolution in power electronics and power of data and linked physical systems.”

(L-R): (Ms. Lindsay Margenau, Mr Neil Kochar, Ms Lissa Matyas, Ms Grace Quan)

“An investment of approx. 11 Million Euros from Spain has been channelled to develop tech-based projects in India.”

Mr. Adrian Gutierrez, Science & Technology Advisor, CDTI Delegate for India and Southeast Asia, Embassy of Spain

“For strengthening innovation ecosystem, it is important to get away with the red-tapeism and facilitate access to funds, mitigate costs and time-taken.”

Ms Grace Quan, CEO, Hydrogen in Motion Inc. (H2M), Canada

Knowledge sharing is crucial for innovations to flourish. Innovations can lead to higher productivity which leads to growth in the economy. The Spanish Indian tech partnership has evolved over time. From being seen as a destination for mere tech-transfer for Spanish technologies, India is now seen as an optimal destination for R&D partnership by Spanish companies.

Canada is a small country in terms of population so it relies on partnership with strategic countries like India. Canada puts emphasis on inclusivity of women in technology and risk-taking is strongly encouraged in the Canadian innovation ecosystem. Canada would like to be stronger in technology translation and commercialization of university research. India has been of great help with the skill shortage in Canada. Innovation is how the world will change and move to the next level. Innovation ecosystem and promoting innovation is a high priority for Canada.

“I4F is an evolution of the collaboration of the framework on innovation to support Israeli companies to collaborate with Indian companies.”

Mr Avi Luvton, Head- International Division, Israel Innovation Authority

Israel is a global name in innovation with almost 6400 start-ups and innovative companies in 71 years of statehood. The ecosystem around these companies is robust. Israel is a small country which is missing a market for the entrepreneurs, which poses a challenge with absence of connectivity with international partners.
