Hammer and champy (1993) define BPR asthe fundamental rethinking and redesign of

business processes to achieve dramatic

improvements in critical, contemporary measures

of performance, such as cost, quality, service and

speed.

The Business Process Reengineering is a

complete life cycle approach. This provides thescope for problem identification and solution to

implement the successful business operations

Business Process Reengineering (BPR) - Business ProcessRe-engineering (BPR) is the strategic analysis of business

processes and the planning and implementation of improved

business processes.

The analysis is often customer centered and holistic in

approach.BPR is a multi-disciplinary subject and should

involve more than IT specialists.

Nevertheless, IT can support BPR in many ways: Software

can be used to help with gathering information about the

current business organization. Workflow and process analysis tools, business modeling and

simulation,On-line analytic processing (OLAP), Data mining

all have a role to play.

Any exercise towards building design of the

MIS will be processed by an exercise of business

Reengineering.

TheMIS in the re-engineered organizationwould be more of a performance monitoring tool

to start with & then a control for the

performance. The traditionalMIS is function centered like-

finance, production, material etc.
