Fiber oPtics at FraunHoFer iZM
OuractivitiesrelatedtoFOISarefocusedonthedevelop-mentofprocessesandsystemstoform,tofuse,tospliceandtoetchopticalfibersandcapillaries.Differentkindoffibermaterialsmightbeusedsuchasallglasstypes,softandcrystallinematerialscoveringafullspectralrangefromUVtomid-IR.
Inparticular,FraunhoferIZMhasagreatexperienceinconstructingcustomizedlasermachines,whichprovidefibercomponentswithhighqualityandreproducibility.
Moreover,theseprocessesmighteasilybeadaptedtotherequirementsofthecustomer.Somemachineshavetheabilityofactivealignmentcapabilitieswithsub-micronaccuracy.
Recently,FraunhoferIZMisinvolvedindesigning,ma-nufacturingandpackagingofopticalsensingmodulesaddressedtothedevelopmentofportablediagnosticsystemsandgyroscopes.Hybridintegrationofoptoflui-dicbiochipsvialaser-structureddouble-sidedadhesivetapeshavebeenalsoinvestigated.
