The role of Buildings & Services – part 1 

• Care and operation of the physical resources of theUniversity

• Providing facilities management service using a combinationof in-house trades and professionals (approx. 130 no.), andspecialist contractors over 250,000+m2 of buildings andapprox. 280 acres

• First point of contact in many buildings for

– customer service– teaching support

– cleaning services

– event support

– mail services

– space management

– Campus Duty Manager service• Technical Services is responsible for the electrical and

mechanical services within the University’s buildings, alsomaintenance issues and telephone services

The role of Buildings & Services – part 2 

• Capital Development section responsible for project

management and procurement of building works andminor projects,

• Energy Unit responsible for energy management and

sustainable energy solutions, utilising building

management control systems, founding member of e3

• Transport & Commuting Office liaises with Dublin Bus andother transport systems, responsible for management of 

transport pool and parking surfaces

• Planning Unit is responsible for co-ordinating planning

stages of large capital development and research support

projects
