0. FOREWORD0.1 This Indian Standard ( Part III/Set I ) ( Second Revision ) wasadopted by the Indian Standards Institution on 4 May 1979, after thedraft finalized by the Sanitary Appliances and Water Fitrings SectionalCommittee had been approved by the Civil Engineering DivisionCouncil.0.2 This standard was first issued in 1958 and was revised in 1963 tocover requirements for additional glazed earthenware sanitary appliances,such as Orissa pan, laboratory sink, squatting plate, slab and stall urinalsand half-round channel. In this revision the scope of the standard hasbeen restricted to cover requirements for glazed fire-clay sanitaryappliances only since the glazed earthenware sanitary appliances wereoutdated as well as unhygienic. The Sectional Committee has found thatonly some of the sanitary appliances were being made in glazed fire-clayand therefore decided to cover the requirements for these appliances onlyin this revision. The general requirements applicable to all appliancesand specific requirements for different types of appliances have beencovered in separate parts of the standard. This standard ( Part III/Set 1)lays down the specific requirements of slab urinals.0.3 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of~thisstandard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated,expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off inaccordance with IS : 2-I960*. The number of significant places retainedin the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified valuein this standard. I

SCOPE1.1 This Indian Standard ( Part III/Set 1 ) lays down the patterns, sizes,construction, dimensions, tolerances and finish of slab urinals made offire-clay.2. REQUIREMENTS2 .1 Gene ra l -The general requirements for materials, manufacture,methods of test, sampling and inspection shall conform to IS : 771 ( Part I )-1979*.2.2 P a t t e r n s a n d s iz es - Slab urinals shall be of one of the followingpattern and sizes:

IS : 771 ( P ar t III /Set 1 ) - 19792.2.1 The slab urinals may be made in other patterns and sizes whereso agreed to between the manufacturer and the purchaser. However,tolerances on dimensions shall be as specified in this standard.

2.3 C o n s t r u c t i o n - Slab urinals shall be manufactured either as asingle urinal or as a range of two urinals as specified by the purchaser.The inside surface of the urinals shall be regular and smooth throughoutto ensure efficient flushing.2.4 D i m e n s i o n s a n d T o le r a n c e s

2.4.2 Tolerances - The following tolerances shall be allowed on thedimensions specified for slab urinals:

a) On dimensions of 50 mm and over * 4 percentb) On dimensions less than 50 mm i_2mm

3. MARKING3.1 Each slab urinal shall be clearly and indelibly marked at aprominent place with the name or trade-mark of the manufacturer.

3.1.1 Each slab urinal conforming to the requirements specified in thisstandard may also be marked tiirh the Standard Mark,NOTE - The use of the Standard Mark is governed by the provisions of theBureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 and the Rules and Regulations made there-under. The Standard Mark on proqucts covered by an Indian Standard conveysthe assurance that they have been produced to comply with the requirements of thatstandard under a well defined system of inspection, testing and quality controlwhich is devised and supervised by BIS .and operated by the producer. Standardmarked products are also continuously checked by BIS for conformity to thatstandard as a further safeguard. Details of conditions under which a licence forthe use of the Standard Mark may be granted to manufacturers or producers maybe obtained from the Bureau of Indian Standards.
