THE BIBLE A recital of the King James Bible
Written in 1611, the King James Bible has proved over the last 400 years the undying power of the written and
the spoken word. Celebrating that achievement, the Globe presents these texts clear and simple, in a theatre which is constantly working to make Jacobean words become flesh. B

Learning of the king his father’s death, Hamlet comes
home to find his uncle married to his mother and installed on the Danish throne. At night, the ghost of the old king demands that Hamlet avenge his ‘foul and most unnatural murder’.
Hamlet is Shakespeare’s ‘poem unlimited’, a colossus in the story of the English language and the fullest expression of Shakespeare’s genius. Performed at the Globe and touring on an Elizabethan style stage, a handful of players will perform a raw, thrillingly elemental production of this inexhaustible play.

ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS WELL
Helena loves the arrogant Bertram, and when she cures the King of France of his sickness,
she claims Bertram as her reward. But her brand new husband attaches two conditions to their marriage – conditions he is sure will never be met.
All’s Well That Ends Well brilliantly reverses all the usual expectations of Shakespearean comedy. Some of Shakespeare’s most inventive language gives life to a fantastic cast of frauds, cynics, sentimentalists and buffoons.
Olivier-award winning actress Janie Dee is best known for Comic Potential in the West End and on Broadway.
WRITTEN by William Shakespeare
directed by John Dove
DESIGNED BY Michael Taylor
COMPOSED BY William Lyons
JANIE DEE as Countess of Roussillon

Claudio loves Hero and Hero Claudio and nothing seems capable of tearing them
apart. Benedick loves Beatrice and Beatrice Benedick, but nothing seems capable of bringing them together.
Driven along by a romance all the more charming for being unacknowledged, Much Ado About Nothing is a miracle of comic and dramatic suspense and one of Shakespeare’s brightest and wittiest comedies.
Olivier-award winning actress Eve Best’s recent credits include The Homecoming (Broadway); A Moon for the Misbegotten (Old Vic, Broadway) and Hedda Gabler (Almeida Theatre). Screen credits include Nurse Jackie and The King’s Speech.
Charles Edwards’ recent theatre credits include Twelfth Night (National Theatre), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (The Rose) and originating the role of Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps (West End and Broadway).
Eve Best will appear in performances until 10 September. Further casting to be confirmed.

Quotes from the 2010 production of Anne Boleyn
DOCTOR FAUSTUS
Doctor Faustus, restless for knowledge, forsakes scholarship for magic and
makes a pact with the Devil: if the evil spirit Mephistopheles will serve him for 24 years, Faustus will leave his soul to the Devil after death.
In Doctor Faustus, Marlowe puts some of the finest poetry ever written for the stage and a good deal of anarchic comedy at the service of a mythic tale illustrating mankind’s insatiable desire for knowledge and power.
Paul Hilton was last seen at the Globe in 1998 as Orlando in As You Like It. Other credits include Rosmersholm (Almeida Theatre) and The Daughter-in-Law (Young Vic). D

A celebration of a great English heroine, Anne Boleyn leaps between
generations to reveal the debt the outrageous but scholarly James I owed to Anne when he shrewdly reconciled England’s religious factions by creating his common ‘authorised’ Bible.
Anne Boleyn returns to the Globe after a sell-out run in 2010. Award-winning playwright Howard Brenton’s previous work at the Globe includes In Extremis.

Beginning with the creation and ending with the last
judgement, the English Mystery Cycles introduced aspects of medieval life into theatrical representations of the Bible.
Lavish costumes, ballad singers and musicians bring a rich theatricality to Southwark this summer. The Globe Mysteries celebrate the spirit of street theatre and processional performance and take a fresh and contemporary look at The Mystery Plays as one of the most important influences on theatre.
THE GLOBE MYSTERIES
WRITTEN by Chris Hannan
Directed by Raz Shaw
Designed by Hannah Clark
From 27 August
A thief in heaven steals the divinity of the gods.
Meanwhile down on earth some fetish items have been nicked from a reality TV star and she’s facing exposure in the tabloids.
Sex shops and comedy, gods and homeless people all collide in a fierce, hectic and hilarious story about people looking for the divine. In Essex.
As bracingly modern as Che Walker’s The Frontline, which thrilled Globe audiences in 2008 and 2009, The God of Soho is not for the faint-hearted.
Bursting with dirty language and filthy content.
