Our New Years Resolution BootCamps have begun! These recruits had just finished their teaser BootCamp at 6am on the amazing morning of January 29th. Good luck Recruits – your B.I is looking forward to whipping you all (into shape!) until these BootCamps finish in March. It’s not too late to join in. All of these guys pictured have started putting their resolutions into action – we hope you have too! One small step or one giant leap? Short term “mini milestones” help to make sure you don’t stray from your path leading to your ultimate goal! Remember our Biggest Loser/Gainer competitions are finishing at the end of February – don’t let the early Easter Eggs tempt you! The finish line is in sight! Check out our events calendar! There are a lot coming up soon. This week a few brave girls are tackling a mini triathlon (Sorry boys, your’s is a few weeks away yet). Not far away in March is Run for the Kids, the Lakeside Fun Run & our relay-a-thon fundraiser. See events page for more details.

MOTHER NATURE
Dear Step into Life Members, family and friends, I write this Directors Desk with very mixed emotions. Feelings of sadness, grief, pity, awe, amazement, courage, pride, humbleness come to mind. Over the past weeks we have all experienced the power of mother nature and the devastating floods that she unleashed on QLD, NSW and Northern and Western VIC. The pictures that were shown on TV were hard to imagine and almost impossible to comprehend. In a matter of a few hours thousands of homes and businesses were inundated with water. Families lost loved ones and people lost there houses and all their possessions. It was heart breaking to see and hear the stories of the people caught is the floods and of those brave people who tried to rescue the victims as the floods waters arrived with such fury. Step into Life in our own small way have also been caught up in this flood crisis. Step into Life Stanthorpe and Step into Life Locker Valley bore the brunt of the floods as the water created havoc in these towns and of all our QLD Franchisees only four venues have not been flooded and were able to continue with sessions. I started off the Directors desk by stating that one of the emotions I had was that of Pride. As soon as the news of the floods were broad cast so our Franchisees all over the country jumped into action and within a few days they had organized “Fun Runs, events and donation drives” to help raise funds for the victims of these floods. The social media networks of Facebook, Twitter, emails etc went into overdrive.

Health and Fitness Staying well hydrated through the summer months Every little cell, tissue and organ in your body needs water. Your body depends on water for survival. Staying on top of your daily hydration needs will see you enjoying better health and functioning more optimally in your activities of daily living. How much water do I need everyday? Recommendations vary considerably but in reality each individual is different and therefore what is adequate for one might not be for another. Typical signs of dehydration include; a dry mouth, fatigue, headaches, dizziness, darker urine or in more extreme cases little or no urine. During the summer months, fluid intake needs to be increased in order to avoid these symptoms. Hot humid weather can have a significant impact on your hydration levels. Water is the best option for staying hydrated, however there are numerous drinks and foods that can help provide the water you need. Always be mindful that drinks such as fruit juice, soft drink and sports drinks can all add significant calories to your diet. It is advisable to keep these to a minimum. However if you intend on exercising at a high intensity for longer than an hour, sports drinks can become extremely useful. Sports drinks have been specifically formulated to help retain fluid more effectively than water and provide a good level of carbohydrate to assist in maintaining blood sugar levels. Fresh fruit and vegetables may also contribute to your hydration level as they have high water content. A few tips for staying well hydrated
− Keep a bottle of water with you at all times. Aim to refill it a couple of times over the course of the day
− Increase your water intake when exercising. Make sure you drink sufficient amount before, during and after your workout.
− Include a glass of water at all meals
− Adding a slice of lemon or lime to water may assist in making it more appealing and thereby encourage you to drink more frequently.
− Include plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet on a daily basis. The high water content will contribute significantly to your overall hydration levels.

Healthy Recipe At Last - Guilt Free Eating! Open Pita Bread Sandwich
This Open Pita Bread Sandwich with capsicum dip (or Tzatziki if you prefer), green capsicum, tomato and low fat cheese makes a healthy and tasty lunch. Capsicums are high in vitamin C, rich in beta carotene and foliate, assist in lowering blood pressure and break down cholesterol build up. If you want to add a protein source to this sandwich, chicken breast is a great option. This recipe is low in fat and a good source of protein. Energy per 100g: 637kg – 152 Cal Fat per 100g: 2.5g This Recipe Serves 2.
Ingredients:
• 4 small pieces of pita bread or naan bread.
• 2 Tablespoons capsicum dip (or Tzatziki if preferred)
• ½ green capsicum, finely sliced • 1 small tomato, cut into 8 wedges • Shavings of low-fat tasty cheese (or parmesan if
preferred) Method:
• Spread both sides of bread with dip. • Place tomato and capsicum on top, and top with
tasty cheese. • Serve immediately or toast in sandwich press if
