SAINT MARY CHURCH ROCHESTER, NH

THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL Lifting his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed, saying: “Holy Father, I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me. And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfec-tion as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me. Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world. Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me. I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.” John 17:20-26

Are you working towards perfection?

Thanks for your generosity!

THE PASTOR’S PONDERANCES Today Jesus’ prayer to the Father deeply urges and encourages us to enter into “oneness.” This is accom-plished only through Christ—the Gate. He gains us ac-cess to the Father with whom He is perfectly one. We cannot be “one” in the same way (we are not God), but by being one with Jesus in a personal and responsive way, we can be as perfectly united as possible in “oneness” with Jesus, even while on earth. Fr. Daniel

MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER WEEKEND In today’s Gospel, Jesus commanded His disciples to love one another as He had loved them. He still continues to give us the same command over 2,000 years later. Do we reflect this love in our lives and relationships, especial-ly our marriage relationship, so that our children, family, friends, and even strangers see us as followers of Jesus? Let God show you how to love your spouse and others as He loves you. Sign up today to attend a Worldwide Mar-riage Encounter weekend. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekends in New England are June 21-23, 2013 and July 12-14, 2013. For more information, call Jim and Elaine Richard at (800) 710-WWME or visit the webpage at www.wwme.org.

SR. LUCIE SAYS On Thursday of last week, we celebrated the Feast of the Ascension! Imagine what it might have been like for the Apostles. They went through Jesus’ death and resurrection, rejoiced when He appeared to them throughout the for-ty days. Now He leaves them again! They were most probably confused. What do we do next! Once again, He reassures them that they are not alone. “. . .behold I am sending the promise of my Father upon you.” “. . .you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you will be my witnesses. Let us be mindful especially when we also ask, what am I to do? We too are reassured that the Holy Spir-it will be sent to guide us every day of our lives. Let us be mindful of that, especially in difficult times, for we too must be witnesses to the world. Sr. Lucie
