Condos 1 & 2 It is election time again. Please fill out your

proxy and send or bring it to the office. We have quite a few candidates running for the board this year. Aside from one or two, I really don't know any of them. I have never seen them at any of our board meetings. Best of luck to all our candidates.

We have new building signs. They really brighten up the area. Soon the flower beds will have new borders built around them. We started some landscaping as we move along repairing our walkways.

Because of all the work this board has done, such as new roofs, paving and sound building foundations, I am happy to report we saved $25,000 on our insurance for the coming year. Because of all the improvements we have made, our condo values are increasing.

I would like to thank the members of our present board: John, Danny, Teddy, Irene, Abe, Angelo, Efrain, Joe, Jo, and Mary for a job well done. Hope to see you all next year so we can continue to make Holiday Springs better than ever. Again, many thanks.

Happy holidays to all. Larry FamaLarry FamaLarry FamaLarry Fama

Condo 3 If you notice any maintenance problems in

the building or elevator, contact Campbell Management at 954-752-6330. At night and weekends call our emergency number – 954-973-5796 -- and state the problem. Exception: call directly to Bug Off (954-772-8338) or to Coin-o-matic (954-761-1111).

Happy birthday and anniversary to all celebrating this month. Happy holidays to all.

Our next board meeting will be on Monday, December 15th at 7:00 PM in the auditorium. At this time the budget for 2015 will be discussed and voted on. Please attend the monthly board meetings. We want to know your needs and suggestions.

Dorothy KladermanDorothy KladermanDorothy KladermanDorothy Kladerman

Condo 4 We welcome Kenrick Shirley to 26-305, Jean Cirignano’s former home. Last month we approved next year’s budget, which goes into effect on January 1st. It requires the monthly installment of your annual assessment to increase by $4 to $293 for a one-bedroom unit and $5 to $367 for a two bedroom. You will receive new bank payment coupons in the mail.

Your Board of Directors has scrutinized the estimation of next year’s expenses and has cut so much fat out of them that in certain categories we are down to the bone -- all with the intention of not burdening you with an unlivable increase. I personally do not think that the budget is large enough to enable us to complete our needed projects. Please prove me wrong. Do not litter, cause damage to the elevators and catwalks (this is being done by the vendors that you hire!), or abuse the garbage chutes. Doing so causes us to spend more for maintenance. Do not put the wrong types of refuse into either the regular or recyclables dumpster. Doing so raises our Waste Management fees. Do not damage the swimming pool chairs. Doing so increases our expenses. Be sure that your toilets do not continually run due to faulty valves. That increases the association’s

water bill. Please, please, PLEASE do not discard cigarette butts on the catwalks, on the stairs, in the bushes, in the grass, or in the parking lots. Enough said – I hope.

On December 9th we meet in the auditorium at 10 AM for our annual unit owners’ meeting. Because only five eligible candidates submitted applications for five positions on the Board of Directors, there is no need for an election. Next year’s Board, by acclamation, will consist of Roberta Bernstein, Alan Levine, Donna Richardson, Stanley Sorrell, and Lynne Whitaker. The new

Board will elect officers from among themselves at the board meeting immediately following the unit owners’ meeting.

It is still important for you to submit your proxy to the unit owners’ meeting if you are not going to attend in person. Otherwise, the meeting will not be official and our legal obligation will not have been met.

Happy Chanukah, merry Christmas, heri za Kwanzaa, and happy New Year!

Condo 6 This will be a busy month for most of us,

with celebrating Christmas and bringing in the New Year. Remember December 7th. Be sure to tell your children and grandchildren why this day

should never be forgotten. At our board meeting on November 5th, the

new budget was accepted. There was an increase, but hopefully we will be able to spruce up the buildings and grounds. Applications to serve on the board will be coming out this month. Be sure to send in the paperwork if you are interested. Our next board meeting will be held on December 2nd at 10 AM.

On the exterminating, in January I will post the date you can have the inside of your apartment sprayed. In the meantime if you have a problem, call Bug Off and they will come. The Bug Off number is (954) 772-8338. Happy birthday and/or anniversary to all who are celebrating.

We used to go to nightclubs and drink a little booze; now we stay at home at night and watch the evening news. If life gives you lemons, turn them into lemonade and add a little vodka. Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year.

Golfside We are looking forward to the return of our

Snowbirds and to a busy and happy holiday season. Everywhere we go, the homes and shops are decorated with beautifully colored lights and other items representing the holidays and winter. But let us never forget that on December 7th we remember the attack on Pearl Harbor and honor all those who lost their lives on that tragic day. Fly your flag in memory of them.

Good health and happy holidays to all, and a happy "special day" to those who are celebrating a special life event this month.

Men’s Club The Men’s Club breakfast in November was sponsored by Broward County Commissioner candidate Lisa Kohner Aronson. The breakfast was delicious. We are now collecting dues for 2015 -- still only $15. Please bring your money with you to the December meeting. Election of officers for the Men’s Club Board will be held at our December meeting. I hope to see you all there.

Ladies’ Club Hello Ladies. Well, the year is coming to a

close, and as usual, the Ladies’ Club is still strong. The Recreation Board, along with all the

other clubs at Holiday Springs, is sponsoring a Shop with a Cop event for all of the needy children

in our community of Margate. This event is being held at the Ladies’ Club at the next meeting, Thursday, December 11th, at 12 noon. All are

welcome to attend. Coffee and donuts will be served free to all. See the notice on page 7 of the Villager. Bring an unwrapped toy or a donation. We will have entertainment provided by our sponsor.

Dues are due. We will have a signup sheet for the Follies trip in January. Thanksgiving was a huge success; it was a pleasure sharing the day with all who attended.

Let me take this opportunity to wish one and all a happy, healthy holiday season. We’re looking forward to the new year and all your happy faces. Enjoy, and thank you for all your support throughout the year.

The Yiddish Club Shalom! Thank you to everyone who

attended our last meeting on November 6th. I wish more people had attended. Hopefully at our next meeting! The bagels and coffee were very good! Our entertainer, Randy Stevens, was excellent! He was given a standing ovation - well deserved! Randy included the audience in his entertainment! Definitely enjoyed by all!

Our next meeting, on Friday (this month only), December 5th, will be our annual “Latke Party.” The cost will be $7.00 a person to be paid in advance by November 27th. No payments the day of the party! Only people who have paid will be able to attend on December 5th. Thank you in advance for cooperating!

Please try to have your dues paid by the next meeting. It is still only $18.00 for the year -- a “chai!” The following month, in January, will be our paid-up luncheon!

My phone number is 954-415-1059 in case anyone wants to get in touch with me to pay your

dues and to pay for the Latke Party. Remember, it has to be paid in advance!

Identification Cards We have again reached the end of the two-year period covered by our photo ID cards and guest passes. Beginning January 1st they will no longer be valid to allow us access to the clubhouse. Existing and expired cards can be renewed for the 2015/2016 calendar years for only $1.00 per card. You do not have to be re-photographed. If your card is damaged or worn, it will be replaced at no additional charge – as long as the damaged card is returned. Lost or stolen cards may be replaced for $5. Your photo is on file, so you still will not have to be re-photographed … unless you want to be. If you should ever become dissatisfied with your current photo, you may be re-photographed free of charge. You won’t get that offer from the Department of Motor Vehicles or passport office!

Various dates have been set up throughout December and January for you to renew your cards. Do not wait until the last minute. Guest passes may be renewed only if accompanied by their photo cards.

Tis The Season Holidays and traditions go together as

celebrations of our past, as well as for the future generations to come. Many faiths celebrate this season in different ways by honoring the customs they grew up with. This year, Hanukkah begins on December 16th. It commemorates a documented historical event, the rededication of the Second Temple in 165 BCE. The Book of Maccabees tells us that after the victory, the warriors cleaned the temple and then held a joyous celebration with a

Page 6: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM - Holiday Springs · DJ Gaby Gabriel. Dinner will consist of veal saltimbocca, chicken Francese, baked ziti, salad, rolls, and cannoli. Tickets are $20 per person

candle lighting ceremony. When the temple was regained, only one sealed vial of oil was found, enough to burn for only one day. However, it was a miracle that the oil lasted for eight days. Today we follow that tradition by having a Menorah in our

homes and lighting one candle each night for eight nights. We celebrate with prayers, songs, gifts, and special foods. Games are played such as Spin the Dreidel, which is a spinning top that has four Hebrew letters on it

that stand for "A Great Miracle Happened There." Christmas is known as Yule and Noel in

other countries. Here in the western churches it is also called Christ's Mass to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ (the Nativity) on December 25th. It is said that this date was chosen for its nearness to Epiphany (January 6th). The Epiphany is a Christian feast also called Twelfth Night. This feast commemorates three events - the Baptism of Jesus, the visit of the Wise Men to Bethlehem, and the Miracle at Cana. The holiday was not observed until the year 200 AD. The name Jesus is Greek for the Hebrew Joshua (savior). Christ is the Greek translation of the Hebrew Messiah (anointed).

The Christmas season is fascinating for its history and tradition. The Christmas tree is a German custom. The American Santa Claus is derived from the Dutch custom of St. Nicholas. Today we celebrate with beautiful decorations like holly and mistletoe and strings of colored lights. The singing of carols, giving of gifts, and sending holiday greeting cards are all beautiful customs. Soon we will see Christmas stories and biblical documentaries on TV. No matter where you live, the magic of TV makes it possible to see the ice skating rink and the beautiful Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center in New York City. You can also see the lighting of the tree on the lawn of the White House in Washington, DC. You can watch Scrooge and The Nutcracker on TV and many of us watch It's a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street every year. Remember when you gave gifts like ties, socks, books and games? Now it's all about the newest technology. We give to charity, send cards and make resolutions, not bucket lists.

No matter how you celebrate the holiday season, enjoy your family, friends and neighbors. Be of good cheer and have a healthy, happy New Year. Most of all let us have peace on earth!
