today more than ever.

2. Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... And Other’s Don’t

What does it take to make a great company, and what traits will young leaders need to

drive them? In this book, Jim Collins establishes new rigidity to the evaluation of

business leadership with a research team reviewing “6,000 articles and generating

2,000 pages of interview transcripts.” The result is a systematic treatise on making a

company great, with particularly interesting findings around what Collins

calls “Level 5 Leadership”.

3. Act Like a Leader, Think Like a Leader

In the book Herminia Ibarra argues that today's rapid pace of change has a vast

impact on leaders and, as a result, on the business they run. All too often, she also argues that leaders get stuck in outdated mindsets and modes of operating, even

after their employees have suggested the need for change. To her, leaders need to learn to pivot even when there are no obvious signals guiding their way.  She

includes great advice about networking, authenticity and storytelling, areas that in other hands can seem like hopeless fads.

4. The Leader Who Had No Title

The reason why this book is so powerful is because it gets down to the nitty gritty by

exploring the easily overlooked qualities of leaders: modesty, consideration and

empathy. Sharma argues that when you start to live out your values and get

employees to follow and believe in the work you do, you become a leader without a title.

In his book, Daniel H. Pink emphasizes the importance of motivation in good

leadership. He argues that the use of rewards and punishments to control our

employees’ work habits is becoming obsolete. To maximize employees’

enjoyment and productivity for the work they do, he argues that leaders need to

upgrade their thinking to include autonomy, mastery and purpose. Drive is a worthwhile

read that will get you to think and inspire you to act.
