Volume 23 - 7 August, 2012

Dear Parents and Students

It is with a certain sense of accomplishment we “launch” Loreto’s new Teaching and Learning Framework.

In developing this framework we desired that it be one that was life‐giving, enriching, challenging and transforming for both teachers

and students alike.  Our inten on thus, has been to develop a framework to promote a culture of educa onal excellence being mindful

that we do so in the context of a school defined by the impera ves and of the Gospel and the Loreto Mission Statement for Schools.

The Loreto Framework © thus contains four key aspects:

Habits of Mind (Art Costa)

Disposi ons of the Heart ( Loreto Mission Statement)

Learner and Teacher A ributes (Loreto Vision Statement)

Enduring Pursuits (Gospel impera ves)

It can perhaps be best understood using a pyramid net.

This “pyramid” represents the framework that will guide and assist us in our teaching and learning, planning, programing, pedagogical

choices, assessment and delivery.

The  three key dimensions  that  form  the  important  founda on of our  teaching and  learning  framework are The Habits of Mind, our

Disposi ons of the Heart and Teacher and Learner A ributes. Both the Habits of Mind and our Disposi ons of the Heart are cri cal

means by which we seek to develop, nurture and encourage in each other our desired Learner and Teacher A ributes.

This three‐fold founda on enables us to educate for greater wisdom through an emphasis across the en re curriculum on the life‐long

importance of the Gospel impera ves we have ar culated as the Enduring Pursuits.

Professor Olatunde (Art) S. Costa defines the “Habits of Mind” as the dispositions skillfully and mindfully displayed by characteristically intelligent people when confronted with problems the solutions to which are not immediately apparent. The Habits of Mind are not thinking tools; rather they are dispositions that incline one to adopt thinking tools and strategies.

We want students and teachers to experience Loreto as a place of joy, beauty, kindness, goodness, peace, love and laughter; a place of welcome and belonging; a place of giving and sharing; a place of nourishment and challenge; a place where the achievements of all are encouraged and celebrated without envy; a place that enriches, offers broad experiences, develops potential and engenders a passion for learning.

When young women leave this College, we want them to be discerning and to value reflection, silence and beauty. We want this so that they can confidently transcend society’s stereotypes and respond to the demands of their world with courage and authenticity. (Loreto Vision Statement)

God’s presence amongst us makes each moment and each experience holy. At Loreto we seek to embrace each moment and to do so with grateful hearts. To see holiness, God’s presence, in the ordinary and the extraordinary is to be utterly present and open to the awe and wonder of life and creation. This holy disposition promotes a love of self, a love of others and a love of all things: it gives rise to Felicity and promotes inner Freedom; it demands that we act with Sincerity and that we strive for Verity; and it compels us to seek Justice in all its forms. These are the five imperatives of a Loreto education. They guide us and define us.

(Loreto Mission Statement)

Thus Loreto commences the journey to embrace the “Habits of Mind” as an integral part of our framework.

Last week Mr Pat Elsworthy, Mrs Deb Bauer, Ms Tania Gallen, Mrs Jan Kearney and myself a ended a three day Habits of Mind con‐

ference with Mr Art Costa (definer of  the Habits of Mind) himself in a endance. This experience was illumina ng and rewarding. We

return to school keen to build on the richness we already have by being more par cularly focussed on the “thinking elements” within

the curriculum as we work together, with the teachers and the students, to be more “mindful by design”.

I look forward to the challenges and the rewards ahead as we seek to build on all the successes that have brought us to this point in

me.

                           Yours sincerely

                                                                                                              Cheryl Hamilton

                      Principal

We celebrate the mystery that exists in the miracle of life, creation and all things and thus seek to better understand our connectedness.

For the love of our world and its future, we seek to pursue right relationships with, and the wellness of all beings, all things, and all creation.

In so doing, we seek to use our God given talents in the pursuit of excellence and in the loving and responsible service and empowerment of all.

Wxutà|Çz axãá Last Wednesday Loreto had six teams in the second round of finals. They were 8.1, 9.1, 9.2, 10.1, 11.2 and 12.1. Unfortunately 9.2 and 12.1 both lost by only one point each. They debated strongly and we are very impressed with their efforts to go so far. Thanks go to 12.1: Mr Pat Elsworthy, Anita Buckman, Hannah Kassulke, Maddie Lacey, Maddie Little and Sophia Markey-Towler; and 9.2: Mrs Ruth Goldney, Kassidy Graham, Georgia Johnson, Rachel Larkin, Eleanor Pratt and Emma Thompson.

Congratulations go to 8.1, 9.1, 10.1 and 11.2 who are still debating and now face a secret topic for Finals Round 3! Last week for Mrs Radvan’s team, 10.1 speakers were Maddie Lloyd, Rebecca Marshall and Hannah Radvan. Thanks to Meghan Shannon for all her help with their research. In Mrs Anne Heathcote’s team, 11.2, speakers were Naa Sackey, Laura Nicholls and Anthea Bach. Great support came from Kalani Del Rae Maher and Gabbi Kassulke. Mrs Carla Wood’s team consists of Leah Carey, Lauren Causer, Georgia Garrett, Kate O’Sullivan and Stephanie Samios. Listed below are this week’s date, time and location:

We thank the Year 12 girls who came to support the Year 11 and Year 12 teams last week. Good luck to our four remaining teams!!                                                                                                          Mrs O’Neill - Debating Coordinator

_|uÜtÜç axãá Year 8 Reading Olympics 6-20th August For the next fortnight, we are encouraging all girls to read every night. Each class is competing against the other “countries” for medals and personal bests. The winning country will be announced on Monday 20th, the beginning of Book Week. It’s theme is “Champions Read”. Your daughter should bring home her Reading Tally sheet for you to sign the Parents’ Verification that she is reading regularly and trying new books. We want everyone to try their best (not like the badminton team that was sent home in disgrace from London!) I have promoted a wide range of books with all classes so I hope to encourage and broaden reading tastes. I value your encouragement and support! Kathy Hedemann - Teacher-Librarian

_tÇzâtzx WxÑtÜàÅxÇà axãá LOTE Week LOTE (Languages Other Than English) Week is coming up at Loreto! The idea of LOTE Week is to provide information about the study of French, German and Japanese after Year 12 and the wide variety of ways in which these skills can be applied. Due to the CSGSSA Athletics Carnival on Monday 20th August, LOTE Week will start on Friday 17th August and continue from Tuesday 21st – Friday 24th August. During lunch times of this week, the girls will be given the opportunity to talk with University lecturers and past students who have continued with their LOTE studies and/or completed Gap Year projects in these countries. A representative from the University of Queensland will talk to the girls about the Diploma in Languages, Bachelor of International Studies and the Brisbane Languages Alliance between the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology and Griffith University. A spokesperson from Nacel will give a presentation about international exchange programs. These lunch time activities will primarily interest students in Years 10-12 but younger girls are also welcome to attend. There will be further details in next week’s newsletter. French Day Last Wednesday we celebrated French Day at Loreto. Thank you to everyone who got into the spirit of the day by wearing red, white and blue outfits and by buying croissants and French patisseries at morning tea. Thank you to the Multicultural Council for their organisation and the Year 12 and Year 9 French students who during Assembly read French prayers and presented France as a tourist destination. In the evening the Year 11 and 12 French classes enjoyed a delicious three course meal at the local French restaurant, “La Provence”. French Exchange Student Last Friday we farewelled Hélène Gandon, a French exchange student who joined Loreto at the start of Term Three. Hélène spent almost five weeks visiting Australia as part of a Nacel exchange program where students live with a host family and participate in excursions as a group. We thank the Chapman family (Helena, Year 12) for their generosity in hosting Hélène. During her time at Loreto, Hélène contributed generously to every French class through her extensive preparation of cultural presentations and conversations with all the students who are learning French. We will miss having Hélène as a part of our class but look forward to hearing from her upon her return to France. Louise Tilly - Languages Coordinator

`âá|v axãá QCMF – The most recent version of the College’s performance schedule is included below. QCMF Uniform expectations – All music ensemble students will be performing at QCMF in a few week’s time. The College’s uniform expectations are very simple – all groups, except guitars, perform in regular school uniform with navy blue stockings (not socks). Blazers and school pullovers may be worn on the day for warmth but will be left in the warm-up area and not actually worn on stage. Guitar Ensembles will wear black pants (not jeans), plain black button-up, collared shirt with ¾ or full length sleeve (no short sleeves), black socks or stockings and black shoes. Guitarists may also wear their own choice of coloured scarf. Guitar Ensemble Two Rehearsal – As your QCMF performance is on Thursday next week, we will rehearse on Monday morning before school (13 August) instead of Friday. Guitar Ensemble Two – Please be aware that due to your performance time very soon after school on Thursday 16 August, the College will organise a bus to transport you directly to Villanova at the end of the day. Please make sure you bring your guitar, music, black uniform and footstool to school with you on the day. Directly after homeroom you should change into your performance uniform and then meet in the Mary Ward Centre mezzanine by 3:30 pm. You are to organise your own transport home after the performance. Clarinet Ensemble Date Claimer – The Clarinet Ensemble has elected to enter the Qld Clarinet and Saxophone Society Competition, held on Sunday 2 September. Please keep this date free and we will publish exact performance times as soon as they become available. Music Support Group – Our next meeting for the Music Support Group is this Wednesday 9 August, 7:30 pm in room 605. All parents of music students are welcome to attend. Concert Band One Assembly Performance – All members of Concert Band One are reminded that we will be performing on Assembly on Wednesday 8 August (tomorrow) so you will need to arrange to bring your instruments and music to school on that day. Open Day – A number of Music Ensembles are performing on Open Day, this Sunday. String Quartet need to arrive and meet in the Practice Rooms by 9:40am so that they are ready to play from 10am to 10:20am. Jazz Ensemble need to arrive by 9:45 am and meet in 705. You will perform from 10:20am to 10:30am and then hold an Open Rehearsal from 11 am to 12:30 pm. Chorale need to meet in 701 by 10:50 am to hold their Open Rehearsal from 11 am to 12:30 pm.

For our final outing to Downey Park this year, we came up against Mt Alvernia. Unfortunately due to absence and illness our side was understrength, but we still put up a good fight. All of our girls played well with some impressive passing and storming runs up the centre of the pitch. Tullee Allendorf capitalised on this in the second half and pushed the ball into the goal mouth after a fast and meandering run through the Mt A backs in the circle. We did not have luck on our side this week and Mt A netted four goals of their own, all off the back of chance deflections from short corners. Georgia McAuliffe played a vital role at full back this week and never gave up the chase when the opposition were coming her way and Emma Currey did an admirable job slotting in at centre half. A special thanks to Shona Rocket and Leah Carey who both transferred from the number two team to help us out with numbers. They had a fantastic game and really got amongst the action. Lauren Williams was very acrobatic in the goal box this round and almost completed a full somersault at one stage. At the end of the afternoon we finished the season with a 4-1 loss, but with our heads held high knowing that we gave it our best. Well done to all of the Open 1 girls – it was a pleasure to coach you in 2012! Matt Lourigan (Open One Coach)

OPEN TWO – MATCH REPORT Loreto Two vs San Sisto College: 1 – 1. It was an exciting and challenging final match against San Sisto College in a battle for overall 5th position on the ladder. The Loreto girls were very enthusiastic, getting off to a great start and spending the majority of the first half on attack. Tahlia Simms was able to sneak one past the keeper to score the first goal of the match. San Sisto levelled the score early in the second half, after which it was an extremely closely fought match. There were some great plays and close shots on goal but unfortunately the scores remained even at the final whistle. An outstanding effort by all involved throughout the season. Well done girls! Ian Wright and Eliza Mooney - Coaches

HOCKEY COORDINATORS REPORT BSGSA Hockey season is finally over with Loreto One in 4th and Loreto Two in 5th place. Thanks to all the parents for coming to the games and teaching staff for helping out with umpiring, coaching and crowd control. This week our teams were plagued with sickness with just enough players to field both teams and no substitutions. Unperturbed with the lack of numbers and player swapping, everyone from both teams worked together and gave it their all. Well done! TURF Hockey has been re-ignited with training to restart this Tuesday 7th August at 6:45am on the EHTT Carina. Details for the competition are apparently on their way and the detail of which will be distributed as soon as possible. All players are to wear the Turf Hockey uniform for all training and game sessions. A reminder that even at training the wearing of mouth guards and shin pads is compulsory. Anyone who wishes to withdraw from the competition is to advise Mr Lane-Richardson as soon as possible so a replacement can be arranged. Alan Lane-Richardson - Hockey Coordinator

Soccer Finals - Results                                                                                                                                                                                         Junior B - The Junior B team played the Our Lady's College Junior B's in the last match of the season. A great effort from both sides with the final result being 2 - 0 in favour of Our Lady's College. The Loreto girls played a great game with most of the girls playing out of their usual position. Adrianna Urbina played an exceptional game although the rest of the team also performed at their best and finished the season strong. Nick Laidlaw - Coach

Open B - The last game of the season saw the Open B team play Stuartholme. Unfortunately the team went down to Stuartholme 1 - 0. Some impressive defence work from Fiona, Sara, Rebecca and Brigid throughout the whole game gave us a platform to come home strong in the second half. A great performance from everyone on the day but we were unable to score . Well done to all the girls for a great team effort . A 100% improvement this year. Michael Kelly - Coach

Open A - The Open A team played an unbeaten Mt Alvernia team who went into the game with a great deal of confidence. The girls managed to hold them at 1 all at half time with an amazing goal from Emme. In the second half Mt Alvernia came out firing and managed to put 3 goals on us. The girls can hold their heads high with a tough match, but a great season. Jess McLean - Coach

Netball Results– Finals Open A - Placed 4th - A strong game to conclude our Wednesday afternoon competition. While we experienced our second defeat at the hands of a strong team from Our Lady’s College to finish in 4th position on the ladder, it was a much closer game second time around. I am really pleased with the improvement the team has made over the season. The resilience shown to pull together despite illness and injury for our final game was impressive. Kristen Feurriegel was outstanding in the defensive pressure she applied to a very skilled opposing goal shooter; she is without doubt the most improved player of the season. Hannah Fowler was consistent in effectively delivering the ball to our shooters who had to work hard for every point. Eloise Jackson was tireless and committed in moving and defending the ball through the centre court. The sportsmanship and supportiveness demonstrated by the girls throughout the season has been a highlight of my coaching experience. They have trained hard and played with heart. I am very proud of all ten players and looking forward to ending our season with a strong performance when we participate in the Vicki Wilson Cup. Coach: Meg Logan

Open B - Placed 7th - Open B defeated San Sisto College 19 -16. It was the team’s best game of the season and the girls all played well. The girls played in different positions and we saw some great shooting from Kaitlyn and Rebekah and wonderful centre court play from Mary-Kate, Chiara and Kate. Excellent defence play from Lauren in defence and superb shooting from Eloise ensured a good strong game. Thank you to the team for a great season! Coach: Karen Holahan

Open C - Placed 2nd - The Open C team played remarkably in what was the most intense game of the season, unfortunately going down to Mt Alvernia in over time of the premiership game (20-21). Loreto streaked ahead in the first quarter with great defence by Lauren and fluency to the circle and managed to hold them off until half time with a score of 13-6. After a gruelling second half however, the score had tied and the hooter rang. Two halves of six minutes were played in order to decide the premiership winners. Unfortunately there was a turnover in the final minutes and we ended the game 20-21 in favour of Mt A. Open C played magnificently throughout the season and should be very proud of the runner up position this year! Coach: Larissa Hughes

Intermediate A – Placed 5th – The girls left their best game of the season to last playing an incredible game against Mt St Michael’s 2 with the result going in our favour 46-7. Ashlee was a stand out player for our team shooting at a very high percentage. A great way to end a great season! Coach: Courtney Milne

Intermediate B1 - Placed 2nd - The team were outstanding in their last game of the season. Although they were defeated by Mary Mackillop College 29-19, they showed true sportsmanship. I am so proud of how the girls played not just in the grand final, but over the course of the season. Finishing second is a great achievement! Thanks again to Jacqueline West, Rebecca Marshall, Katie Mirabito, Sarah King, Prue Hempel, Meg Shannon, Rebecca Gray, Hannah Dalton and Maddy Knudsen. Coach: Kate Mullins

Intermediate B2 – Placed 7th - The final game this week was really exciting with the team defeating Brigidine, 17-15. For the last game, the team decided to play in different positions for a half throughout the game. All girls put in a tremendous amount of effort and proved that they have evolved as players this season and have shown sportsmanship throughout the competition. My thanks to the girls and I feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity to coach the team this season! Coach: Emma Macleod Intermediate C – Premiers - Went through the rounds undefeated to face Mt St Michael's (for the second week in a row) to fight for the Premiership. All the girls put up a magnificent fight in a very close game. Congratulations to the girls for coming out on top, winning 24-22. All their hard work and determination; not just in the final but throughout the season paid off. Coach: Magadeline Ryan Intermediate D – Placed 2nd - Loreto was defeated by San Sisto 21 - 15. The team put up a gallant fight but unfortunately went down to a strong opponent. Loreto were up by one goal at half time but unfortunately were not able to extend their lead. Despite the loss the girls all played exceptionally. All members of the team gave their absolute best and should be commended on their ‘never say die’ attitude. Congratulations on a fantastic season girls, you have been a pleasure to coach. Coach: Briony Logan

Intermediate E - Premiers - Played a fantastic game against Mary MacKillop in the last game of the season. Throughout the first half the girls fought hard, with great defence attacking. Emma, Emily, Mason and Isabella, all-round centre court

by Tiarna, Natasha and Alanah and shooting by Maddie and Sarah, ensured the team came back to win 22-14 and the 2012 Premiership. Congratulations girls, you played well all season and it was a pleasure coaching you! Coach: Tara Cullinan

Junior A – Placed 5th - Heading into the last game of the season the girls were filled with mixed emotions; excitement and determination to win their final game as well as sadness that the netball season has come to a close. The team really demonstrated their strengths and enthusiasm for the game. The girls have come so far from the first game of the season as a team and individually and these aspects were evident on Wednesday. It has been a pleasure to be the coach of Junior A this year and I wish them all the best for their future netball endeavors. Congratulations girls on a fantastic season, thank you for the many memories! Coach: Clare Gill

Junior B – Placed 4th - An unfortunate loss to Lourdes Hill last week as the girls set out to win 3rd place. A great game was played by all and the opposition won fair and square. A special mention must go to our defence, Charlotte, Brianna, Sophie and Zoe. The Centre worked very hard to get the ball into the circle where Brittany was very successful in her interceptions. Lauren shot beautifully throughout the entire game and is this week’s player of the week. Thank you to all players for an amazing season! I have had so much fun coaching you and getting to know you. I wish you all the best for Year 8 and hope to see you next year! Coach: Josie Woolaston

Junior C - Awarded 5th - The team defeated Mary McKillop 16-11. What an exciting game it was! Our defence was scintillating, led by the energetic Ashley Parker. Amanda Hansen was exceptional while shooting, making 9 of 12 attempts. Excellent work from the whole team, for the duration of the season. It has been a pleasure to coach such a lovely team. Coach: Jacqui Gold Junior D – Premiers - The team worked consistently hard throughout the season to reach the final play-off for the Premiership. A few nerves at the start of the game meant that San Sisto kept us to a 2 – 2 draw at quarter time with Loreto just edging ahead 7-6 at half time. Loreto really hit their straps in the third quarter and with some brilliant shooting by Anna King and Tayla Jansen, raced ahead to a 17 – 7 lead. The final score of 20 – 11 reflected fantastic attack and defence, great teamwork and determination by all girls. Oh what a team! Congratulations to all members for their contribution to a great season – Lucy Briggs, Holly Davey, Imogen Day, Tayla Jansen, Anna King, Nicole Kulczyk, Kitty Lloyd, Julia Palmer, Ellouise Spencer and Maddy Walker. Year 11 English Literary Tours - A Celebration of Brisbane Kangaroo Point The icy wind bit at my skin, seemingly chasing me as my worn out shoes scuffed quickly across the grass. It was winter, and the sun had set early…The whispering of the Brisbane River provided a somewhat sinister undertone for the symphony of cars, trucks and motorbikes still using the overhead Story Bridge. The night sky, drained of starlight by the imposing high rises, seemed to press down on me, making it harder to breathe. Erin Leask The wind from the river blows my hair into my face. The sun’s rays beam down like there’s no tomorrow. No clouds in the sky, it’s a perfect day to climb… Looking to the cliffs, climbers are everywhere, going up as fast as spiders making a web. There’s tension in the atmosphere as one climber reaches for a hole but slips, causing rocks to fall. Clunk, he is saved by his harness. Celia Lane The sail boats lilt slowly from side to side, a multitude of different personalities. Chipped paint and gleaming polish, all with their story to tell. Their masts reach vainly in search of the

sky above them, a brilliant expanse of blue. Their height is nothing in comparison to the million dollar apartment blocks that sit opposite them, or the Story Bridge that can be seen in the distance, looming above the luscious trees. The contrast between the spider web of grey metal and the vibrant green is startling. A couple of residents lean over the rail of their balcony as they enjoy the view and the luxury that is their life. The boardwalk that separates the boats from their rivals is a patchwork of wood, stable but old enough to make you curious as to how long they’ve stood there. Behind still stands the old dock from the Evans Deakin Shipyard. The rusted remains of the iron lock gates that once held out the water from the dock stubbornly refuse to relinquish their hold on the landscape, standing to attention until the very end. Further out on the murky, brown river, the City Cats speed by in their endless journey up and down the river. On board are tourists, their cameras held at the ready, as well as locals, amused at how such an enthusiastic reaction can be warranted for such a familiar landscape. It makes you wonder at this land’s history, of which there are only speckled remains. How did this booming metropolis begin? What is its story? Lauren Higgins

New Farm Bright strands of sunshine filtered through the Jacaranda trees, creating patterns of moving light. A gust of wind pushed the fallen purple flowers into a dance. It was as if a crowd of fairies was twirling in their miniature purple ball gowns to the sweet sound of the wind, their only music. I stared on enviously, wanting to join in. Meg Christiansen The ageing oak trees within New Farm Park seem to reach out with their limbs. They have stories of their own to tell. The park provides a place of reflection and relaxation, a wonderful safe environment to catch up with friends and family, a place where time stands still whilst the energy of a growing city close by is ever present. Sam Firrell Sitting on the same bench he sits on every day, Vincent pulls his guitar out of its case and props it on his knee. Adjusting his fingers to the strings, he inhales a deep breath and gazes at the view of the overcast Brisbane City skyline from Wilson Outlook. He begins playing a soft, flowing melody as tears well up in his eyes. One single tear escapes and

slowly streams down his cheek, dropping onto his old worn-out jeans. Continuing with the song, Vincent cannot help but picture her standing in front of him, swaying to the sound of his music. He misses his wife. Kristen Feuerriegel

Moreton Bay – Wynnum and Manly An eerie mist hovers around the jetty in the early morning. Glimmers of light trickle through the dark clouds. A thin film of salt hugs the railing and a cool breeze rustles the leaves of surrounding palms. The water is calm, gently crashing onto the rocks supporting the age old structure. Locals saunter along the esplanade, as leaves dance fitfully below their feet. The jetty stretches towards eternity, deep into the ocean. The delicate pieces of wood creak as eager fisherman tread heavily. Naa Sackey I walk out onto the jetty as a cool wind sweeps across the bay; the still water contradicts the stormy grey sky. My footsteps slap against the cold concrete, echoing in the stillness. The bay stretches out before me. I stop, lost in my thoughts. I listen to the soft, rhythmic sounds of the waves against the rock wall. The cry of a seagull disturbs the silence of the jetty and I watch it swoop and soar through the air, celebrating its freedom while I stand locked below. My head is cold and I feel myself longing for that head of chestnut hair that used to fall below my shoulders, protecting my neck from cruel winds. The

The silhouette of St Helena Island blocks my view of the vast expanse of water that is Moreton Bay and I think of better days; days when the sun shone and I was without the weight of such a heavy burden. Those days seem long, long ago. Long before the cancer. Gabi Kassulke The pier is a dull brown-grey, stained from countless tides washing over the pebbled pavement. The sky joins with the sea to form an endless expanse of grey. A lone boat is silhouetted against the weak sunlight filtering through the clouds. Its sails are furled and it drifts aimlessly toward the horizon before disappearing from view, as if it were never there in the f irst place. Lauren Kojrowicz I sit on the jagged rocks, watching the trickle of boats head out of Manly Harbour and into the ocean. The sand that lies beneath my dangling feet remains undisturbed until it reaches the kiss of the soft, foaming waves. The occasional patter and heavy breathing of a jogger, the whoosh of a cyclist and the distant playful cries of children nearby remind me I am not alone. Another sail boat appears out of the corner of my eye. “Number Fifty-six,” I whisper under my breath. The fifty-sixth vessel I have seen today takes to the wind as if it weighs nothing more than a feather, its single hull slicing through the almost flat sea. A gust of wind sends my long, flowing hair into a frenzy as I see Number Fifty-seven, the boat I have been waiting for. Hannah Reece
