The month of May is dedicated to our Blessed Mother Mary. It is a month to take time in prayer and contemplation over the wonder and blessing of Mary as the Mother of God and the Mother of our Holy Catholic Church.

There are several ways we can honor Mary during the month of May.

The first and most common is praying the Rosary. The daily (or weekly) recitation of the holy Rosary either alone or with the family is a wonderful way to mediate on the mysteries of Mary’s unique place within our Church and her motherhood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

A second way of honoring Mary is through making an altar or placing a statue of picture of our Blessed Mother in a place of honor in your home for the month of May. You can also celebrate a “crowning of Mary” on Moth-er’s Day. While we often think about May Crownings as a parish activity this is a wonderful way to involve children in this important practice of our faith. (Continued on page 5...)

El mes de mayo está dedicado a nuestra Santísima Madre María. Es un mes donde debemos tomarnos tiempo para orar y con-templar la maravilla y la bendición de María como la Ma-dre de Dios y la Madre de nuestra Santa Iglesia Católica.

Hay varias formas en que podemos honrar a María du-rante el mes de mayo.

La primera forma y la más común es rezar el Rosario. La recitación diaria (o semanal) del Santo Rosario, ya sea solo, o con la familia es una forma maravillosa de mediar en los misterios del lugar único de María dentro de nuestra Iglesia y su maternidad como madre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

Una segunda forma de honrar a María es hacer un altar o colocar una es-tatua de la imagen de nuestra Santísima Madre en un lugar de honor en su hogar durante el mes de mayo. También puede celebrar una "coronación de María" en el Día de las Madres. A menudo pensamos en la coronación de María como una actividad parroquial, esta es una forma maravillosa de involucrar a los niños en esta importante práctica de nues-tra fe. En otra nota ... nuestra parroquia está matriculando estudiantes en este momento para el próximo año aca-démico. Por último, nuestra campaña de capital Renovado en la Luz continúa dando grandes frutos. The third activity is to go to www.formed.org to view one of the many videos on the different aspects of Mary’s role in our faith. There are videos for adults and children and each of them are great ways to open our heart to this wonderful treasure of our faith. The parish code is below and formed.org is free to everyone.

On another note…our parish is enrolling students at this time for the coming academic year. If you have an incoming pre-school or kindergarten student, please contact the school to see how Catholic education will be a blessing for your child(ren).

Lastly, our Renewed in the Light Capital Campaign continues to bear great fruit. We have not reached our goal but we, as a parish community, continue to look forward and seek how best we can steward the gifts of our time talent and treasure into creating a more welcoming and beautiful parish community. We are continu-ing the work of planning the new lighting system in our church building and have begun meeting with the ar-chitects to begin the preliminary designs for the new bathrooms in our parish school and church building. We once more thank you for those who have pledged and are in the process of fulfilling their pledges and contin-ue to invite those members of our community who have yet to make a pledge to please prayerfully consider joining us in this great work.

Teen Faith Formation Are you being called to serve the youth? Hello, my name is Patty Osorio and I am the Youth Minister here at St. Lucy Parish. I’m not the only youth minister. Did you know we are all called to help educate our youth and lead each and every one of them closer to Christ? I believe our youth are our most important treasure. In this community we should all share a common goal— evangelizing children and teens to become active, productive, and happy contributing community members. Many of our teens need individualized attention and YOU have had varied experiences that can help our youth. I’m in need of volunteers to help me in ways that will allow me to pro-vide more personal assistance to the youth. Our Parish volunteers (Core Leaders) support our teens and our par-ish. My job is to help and empower YOU to evangelize the youth. If you are interested in serving as a volunteer at our parish, I would be delighted to hear from you. There are many different ways volunteers can assist in our pro-grams, depending on your special abilities or interests.

VACATION BIBLE CAMP 2018/CAMPAMENTO DE BIBLIA 2018 June 25th to June 29th This year the Vacation Bible Camp “Shipwrecked” will engage your children through creative and fun activities that anchor kids in the truth that Jesus carries them through life’s storms!

Este año, el campamento bíblico en vacaciones "Shipwrecked" atraerá a sus hijos a través de actividades creativas y divertidas que anclarán a los niños en la verdad de que Jesús los lleva a través de las tormentas de la vida!

Shipwrecked is for 3 year olds (potty trained) to entering 5th grade children. Hurry to register them as Early Registration ($85 per camper) ends on April 30th! Registration will be $100 per camper after this day. Discounts available for parent volunteers. Also, we have teenager volunteer opportunities.

SCRIPTURE STUDIES

The Bible Study Group will be offering a 5 week course on Scripture and the Rosary starting Monday evening, May 7, at 7 pm in PAC B. The same course will be offered on Tuesday mornings starting May 8 at 10 am in PAC B. Five Scripture passages from the New Testament will be explored for each set of the rosary's mysteries: the Joyful, the Sorrowful, the Lu-minous, and the Glorious. Suggested donation is $20.
