● Summer reading is REQUIRED for students enrolled in Language Arts APA.
● Reading must take place prior to the first day of school.

● ALL STUDENTS will complete the regular cards during this course selection session.
● Those who qualify to participate in MAP will have changes made to their course selections by the MAP coordinator later.

Band FAQ
What if I want to play the drums? Many students aspire to play “the drums”, which are actually part of an instrument family called percussion. Percussion students learn many different instruments including mallets (such as xylophone and marimba), auxiliary percussion (triangle, tambourine, etc.), and various drums. This class is very selective, so while we are happy to audition any student for percussion, we ask that you be open to trying out other instruments as well. **Instrument tryout dates will be announced later**
Do I have to know how to read music? You do NOT have to already know how to read music or play an instrument to be in band. We teach you from the very beginning!
Can I afford band? Like any activity, band does have a few fees, but we are able to work with students and parents to make them manageable. If you can not afford an instrument, don’t worry! There are certain instruments that students aren’t expected to buy/rent from a store and are provided by the school. Just ask us if you have any questions or concerns.
When will I get my instrument? After you meet with us and we decide your top three choices, we will deliver certificates to your elementary school letting you know what instrument you were chosen for. At that time, you will also get information explaining where and how you go about getting an instrument. Instruments will be delivered to Fairview and will be ready for the beginning of the school year!

*Theatre Arts is a one semester elective
*6th grade students choosing Art & Theatre Arts will take one semester of each.
P.E. or Dance
Students are required to take 2 years of P.E. or dance at the junior high level. 6th grade students are not required to dress out for a grade or in order to participate.
DANCE * Dance is a PE credit *● No experience needed
● Minimum of 2 Performances per year
● Will learn all styles of dance as well as create
your own choreography
● Practice dress code daily (black shirt & black leggins/pants)
● Dance shoes & shirt required
(can be purchased through the school)
● Dance is offered from 6-12th grade!
Dance is not just for girls! BOYS and girls are encouraged to take dance to improve:
-balance
-strength
-flexibility
-agility
-coordination
-confidence

It is important that course selection be given serious consideration. PLAN CAREFULLY. After school begins, course changes will be made only to correct scheduling errors or to equalize class enrollments.
