Designing group work that is both beneficial
and meaningful to students is a challenging
task for the majority of online instructors.
Oftentimes instructors shirk away from
assigning group projects, because they
believe that group work in particular
disciplines, such as mathematics, is greatly
ineffective. In this presentation, we will
discuss how assigning a collaborative study
aid as a group project can help create and
foster learning groups, which lead to greater
student success.

During the online course development for
Personal
Computer Application (CIS 101), the online
instructors
developing the course realized the need for
assistive technologies for training videos.
The course development team experimented
with various closed-captioning and transcript
techniques, finally settling on videos in
YouTube; this takes advantage of system's
captioning and transcript capability. To
accommodate students who cannot access
YouTube, this presentation will also discuss
other approaches being explored.
