I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding with our building programme. I am very relieved that the verandahs are now open along the Years 2, 3 and 4 classrooms and we can have better movement around the school. The linking verandah is the next stage that should be completed soon. Once that is done, we will have even better access to our school grounds. Like you, I can’t wait for the whole project to be completed, so we can go back to a bit of normality. However, it is a significant improvement and I have had lots of positive feedback about it. ANZAC DAY You don’t need me to tell you that this year is a very significant one in the history of our nation! Mrs Panizza and our choir have been working hard all year preparing for the big ANZAC commemoration which will be held this Saturday morning at 11.00am at the magnificent new memorial at the BIC. Most of our choir members will be attending the ceremony and they will meet at the school Hall at 9.50am as they need to be at the memorial at 10.00am for a final rehearsal (they even got a very nice plug on 6PR the other day!). It will be a special occasion and I’m sure they will represent our school magnificently. Thank you yet again, Mrs Panizza, for all of the amazing work you do with our choir. PUBLIC HOLIDAY As ANZAC Day falls on a Saturday, the State Government has declared next Monday a public holiday. Apparently, we are the only state doing that this year.. MASS Next week, we will be making ANZAC Day and the need for peace in our world the focus of our school Mass. You are most welcome to attend. It starts at 9.00am in our Church. through the bank account.

UNIFORM SHOP OPENING HOURS

Monday mornings 8.30 – 9.00am

Thursday afternoons 2.30pm – 3.15pm ABSENTEE LINE: 6278 9802 Please phone the number above if your child is absent from school. We ask that you do not email individual class teachers regarding absence, but use the dedicated phone line instead. You will also need to give a signed note of explanation to the class teacher on your child’s return to school.

TRASH FREE TUESDAY We ask that on every Tuesday you are mindful of the way you package your children’s lunchbox to minimise waste at our school. Ideally we would love to see no wrappers, and all food packaged into containers.

NO PARKING IN KISS AND RIDE! Please don’t park in the Kiss & Ride and leave your vehicle. It badly impedes the flow of traffic and holds up other families who are trying to drop children off.

If you need to help your child out of the car or escort them to the classroom, please park your car elsewhere.

SCHOOL IS A NUT FREE ZONE St Michael’s School is an Allergy Friendly School.

We have students who can experience a life threatening reaction to tasting, touching or smelling ground and tree nuts.

Students should not bring ANY items of food where the key ingredient is nuts. This means pastes such as Nutella and Peanut Butter; raw nuts such as almonds, pistachios, cashews and peanuts; or foods with nuts as a main ingredient, such as muesli bars or

chocolate bars containing nuts.

We ask that these products not be

brought to school .

NO PARKING at the Senior’s Centre

We have had another request from staff at the Senior’s Centre over the road that parents please, refrain from parking there ANYTIME before and after school.

The elderly people who use the centre often have mobility issues and need to park as close to the Centre as possible. Having members of our school community taking up parking spots is seriously inconveniencing our seniors. Thank you for your cooperation.

PERFORMING ARTS If any children would like to perform individually at the upcoming Performing Arts Festival, please see Mrs Stewart no later than FRIDAY, 8th MAY.

Assistant Principals’ Update

As we start this long term, we would like to thank all parents for your generous support of the fundraising for Project Compassion. We are in awe of the generosity of the St Michael’s Community. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank parents in advance for your continued support and assistance during this very busy term. ANZAC Day This year we are fortunate in having a long weekend to commemorate ANZAC Day. The school community will be commemorating ANZAC Day on Friday 24th April during Assembly. Our school choir has also been invited to sing in a combined choir at the Bassendean Anzac Day Ceremony, 11.00am at the War Memorial Site.

A Whole School Mass will be held next Wednesday 29th April, 9.00 am. During this Mass we will also take the time to reflect on the ANZACs. NAPLAN Testing NAPLAN Testing will be held in Week 4 of Term 2 starting on Tuesday 12th May – Friday 15th May. If you have children in Years 3 and 5, please make sure that no appointments are booked for your children during this time. Winter Uniform Students will need to start wearing their Winter Uniform, which consists of the following: Girls Skirt, White Shirt, Tartan Tie and School Jumper. Boys Grey Trousers, White Shirt, Tartan Tie and School Jumper. There will be a 2 week period of grace for the transition from summer to winter uniform. Please assist us by ensuring your child is dressed neatly in the appropriate uniform. Fruits of the Holy Spirit During this term the staff have decided to focus on two of the Fruits of the Holy Spirit to assist the children to grow to become better people in the journey of life.

The Fruits of the Spirit offer a life long journey of exploration. As people of the Spirit we are invited to become people of: Love, Peace, Joy, Kindness, Patience, Trustfulness, Self Control, Gentleness and Goodness (Galatians 5: 22). The two Fruits that we will be focusing on during this term are: Peace and Faithfulness.

Peace: We are freed from worrying about trivial things because of the inner peace we experience with God in our hearts. We work and pray for peace throughout the world, knowing that all will work out well because God is with us. Faithfulness: We are faithful when we live out our commitment to the teachings of Jesus, the Scriptures, and the Catholic Church. We are faithful when we show loyalty to God and to others. People are dependable, trustworthy and obedient.

Jacquie Fox and Lisa Liebregts

REFLECTION God of love and liberty,

we bring our thanks this day for the peace and security we enjoy,

which was won for us through the courage and devotion of those who gave

their lives in time of war.

We pray that their labour and sacrifice may not be in vain,

but that their spirit may live on in us and in generations to come.

That the liberty, truth and justice which they sought to preserve

may be seen and known in all the nations upon earth.

This we pray in the name of the one who gave his life for the sake of the world, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

LATE ARRIVALS To avoid being marked absent, all children who arrive at school after 8.40am MUST sign in at the office. We ask for your cooperation in ensuring your child is ready for class to commence promptly at 8.40am.

SCHOOL BANKING EVERY WEDNESDAY

Deposit book to be placed in each

classroom inside CBA Grey Satchels.

Calling for School Banking Volunteers! Our students really enjoy participating in the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program and to keep this program running we need your help. This only takes a small amount of your time one day a week. Currently School Banking day is Wednesday (8.45am to 9.45am maybe more or less depending on the amount of deposits on the day). The Commonwealth Bank will provide support in how to run the program. Your help with the program will greatly benefit students as they develop vital saving skills and also help our school with fundraising. A minimum of two volunteers is required. You will be required to collect CBA satchels from each classroom, return to the Multi-Purpose Room, where each deposit book is checked and signed and funds reconciled, and funds counted and processed and transmitted via the internet. Redemption of Rewards can be left aside for myself to process and administer. Please indicate your interest in volunteering for this great program by filling out the slip below and returning it to the school office. Please also let me know if you are available to be an emergency standby volunteer. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Regards and thank you,

Jordana Knezovic School Banking Coordinator
