The Prophets Biography:The Way outofOrdeals

His Eminence Sheikh SalehibnAbdullahibnHumaid May Allah protect him

delivered this Friday khutbahentitled The Prophets Biography:The Way out ofOrdeals.He talked about the biography of the Prophet May Allahs Salatand Peace be

upon him as a way of life which every Muslim should seek to understand and adhere to. He

also explained that the way out of the ordeals and crises engulfing the Ummah resides in

studying thisredolentbiography and using it as a source of inspiration. The Sheikh also

commended the large Islamic Coalition set up for cementing the ranks of the Ummahin the

face of the perils surrounding it from all directions as well as the terrorist groups, regardlessof their affiliation.

Part One

Praise be to Allah!Praise be to Allah Who has vanquishing power and

splendidwisdom! There is no deity except Him. To Him be praise in the Herein and the

Hereafter! I praise Him May He be extolled and show Him gratitude for His incessantblessings and His countless overt and covert graces! I bear witness that there is no deity

except Allah alone with no partner a testimony in proclamation of truth and certitude

without the least doubt oruncertainty and I bear witness that our Master and Prophet,

Muhammad, is the Servant and Messenger of Allah. He elevated high the torch of religionand united estranged hearts. May Allah send His unceasing Salat (Graces, Honours, and

Mercy), Peace and Blessing upon him, his family, immaculate and chaste progeny,Companions whose radiance is like dazzling stars, the tabieen(the contemporaries of the

Companions of the Prophet [May Allahs Salatand Peace be upon him] after his death), and

all those who righteously follow in their footsteps as long as planets remain in orbit!

Now then!

O people! I exhort you, as well as myself, to adhere to taqwavis--vis Allah (i.e. fear

of disobeying His commands). Observe taqwaMay Allah have mercy on you! Surely, that

which you are promised will verily come to pass.1So, make up for your faults before it is

too late, perform a maximum of good deeds, and be in control of your own actions in privacy

before the abrupt advent of death the annihilator of pleasures, the disgracer of

proudpowerful people, and the invader of all avid egos. When deaths sharpdaggersget

intoitsprey and itsmortal blowstrikes it, eyes will be staring aghast,and neither solutions nor

tricks will be of any avail. May Allah, then, havemercyonthose who rush to use their time in

performing good deeds:

Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrectionshall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed awayfrom the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. Thelife of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceivingthing).[Al Imran: 185]

O Muslims!

A large number of Muslims feel that they have for long been bound to endure an

insupportable burden. Enemies deceitful double-dealing and hegemony have recently

escalated, for they have been trying hard to drive Muslims away from their religion. As aresult, weakness and humiliation have emerged in many areas, and Muslims have been

reduced to a flagrant ignorance of the truths inherent in their faith and Sharia. Accordingly,

they have lost their status and autonomy to feed themselves on the crumbs of other

civilisations. Muslims have ended up subjugated to nations which are no match to them

neither in number nor in any other respect.

O Muslims!

When ordeals multiply and calamities, afflictions, and startling crises follow

insuccession, people tend to grope for a way out. They seek shelter and refuge. If we admitthat this might be an arduous task for certain nations and countries, how can that apply to

Muslims who are shownthe Right Path and given the divine light and guidance? Their

pioneer, leader, and commendable exemplar in such a process is the guide, the bearer of good

tidings, and the radiant lamp of guidance, Muhammad May Allahs Salatand Peace be upon

him and his family. He is the one who is reported to have said: I left amongst you two

things; you will never go astray after my departure as long as you hold fast to them: theBook of Allah and my Sunnah.

In the hadith narrated by al-IrbadhibnSariyah May Allah be pleased with him he

reported that: The Messenger of Allah May Allahs Salat and Peace be upon him gave usa piece of advice which made our hearts palpitate with fear and moved us to tears. Oh,

Messenger of Allah, your advice sounds as though you were bidding us farewell; please

counsel us as to what to do,we said. The following is excerpted from what heMay Allahs

Salat and Peace be upon him said: Those who outlive me will witness great divergence.

So, do stick to my tradition and the tradition of the righteous and rightly-guided Caliphs

after me. Clingstubbornlytothem. Beware of innovations(in religion).

Yes indeed, dear brothers andsisters!

Anyvirtuous life requires a pioneer and any successful journeyneeds a leader. Who on

earth, except the Messenger of Allah May Allahs Salatand Peace be upon him can be a

pioneer of life and a leader of all humans, bearing in mind that he is the trustworthy pioneer

and the trustworthy messenger who conveyed theMessage? May Allahs noblest and most

perfect Salatand Peace be upon him! Notice how the resonance of the noble name of the

Prophet May Allahs Salatand Peace be upon him in the air during the call to prayer fivetimes a day (including night time) is essentially meant to make minds and souls live in close

communion with him without any interruption, neither for one day or even a part of a day.

O servants of Allah!

Because of all the above-stated considerations, his Sunnahand biography have been

preserved. For, the lifeof this noble Prophet May Allahs Salatand Peace be upon him

thisdistinguished biography of ourProphet Muhammad May Allahs Salatand Peace be upon

him which is characterised by perfection and comprehensiveness,is the ever-living source

and the fountain flowing with the values of Islamic lifestyle and the straight Islamic approachto life. In a nutshell, it is the way out (from current ordeals); it is the unmistakable straight

path.

It is the most authentic biography ever recorded in the history of the sent prophets andmessengers. The biography of Muhammad May Allahs Salatand Peace be upon him is

therefore not sheer narrated history, a recounted story, or a chronicled event. It is rather a

precise record of the life of a man who was specially selected by Allah to convey His

Message. Allah did take special care of him and endowed him with inborn traits not shared

by anybody else:

...Allh knows best with whom to place His Message...[Al-Anam:124]

For further clarificationdear brothers andsisters consider the big difference betweenthe course of history, on the one hand, and the course of the Prophets biography, on the

other. Whereas history is founded on human reason, habits, conditions, and the nature of

populousness, the biography of Prophet Muhammad May Allahs Salatand Peace be upon

himis not governed by habits, nor is it subject to abstract reasoning. Rather, the Select

Prophet May Allahs Salatand Peace be upon him is a human receiving divine revelation:

Nor does he speak of (his own) desire.It is only an Inspiration thatis inspired.[Al-Najm: 3-4]

Hence, many orientalists and occidentalists along with those (amongst us) who are

following theirapproach have committed an error whilestudyingthebiography and lifestyleof Muhammad May Allahs Salatand Peace be upon him because they see it as

sheerhuman history writing. They have failed to understand that sheer history is restricted to

the study of human nature and social life and that conversely the Prophets biography has its

own divine standards and prophethood features.For its source is divine revelation, its mystery

is Allahs selection, and its ultimate purpose is to improve human conditions.

...Allh knows best with whom to place His Message...[Al-Anam:124]

Or is it that they did not recognize their Messenger (MuhammadSAW) so they deny him?[Al-Muminoon: 69]

Allh chose Adam, Nh (Noah), the family of Ibrhim (Abraham)and the family of 'Imrn above the 'Alamn(mankind and jinns) (oftheir times).[Al Imran: 33]

Prophets are infallible. They are guiding and guided reformers. They teach people

peculiarities about religion and give themsome knowledgeabout the invisible world. They

have their miracles and special Allah-given aptitudes which are not shared with anybody else.

For this reason, any study of hisbiography which ignores or neglects its propheticcharacteristics and consequently approaches it as sheer chronicling of human history will

necessarily commiterrors in methodology, interpretation and results. Worse still, such studies

might fall into confusion, contradiction, ignorance, and misguidance.

As to those who intentionally adopt deviant approaches in order to foster scepticism,

twist truth, or spread falsehood, their deeds shall eventually be thwarted by Allah and theirplotting will be reversed against them. This is thank Allah noticeable nowadays:

Allh will protect you from mankind.[Al-Maedah: 67]

Truly! We will suffice you against the scoffers.[Al-Hijr: 95]

...they were plotting and Allh too was planning, and Allh is theBest of the planners... [Al-Anfal: 30]

O Muslims!

Allah May He be glorifiedcommanded mankind to follow His Messenger as an

exemplar, adhere to his Sunnah, and hold fast to his guidance and path. He Blessed be He

and raisedfar above said in a number of Quranic verses:

Indeed in the Messenger of Allh (Muhammad SAW) you have agood example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with)Allh and the Last Day and remembers Allh much.[Al-Ahzab: 21]

...And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) gives you,take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it),...[Al-Hashr: 7]

Say (O Muhammad SAW to mankind): "If you (really) love Allhthen follow me (i.e. accept Islmic Monotheism, follow the Qur'nand the Sunnah), Allh will love you and forgive you of your sins.And Allh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."Say (O Muhammad SAW):"Obey Allh and the Messenger (Muhammad SAW)." But if they turnaway, then Allhdoes not like the disbelievers.[Al Imran: 31-32]

There are other similar verses in the Holy Quran.

Allah has preserved the biography of the Prophet May Allahs Salatand Peace be

upon him in an unprecedented way, unlikethat of the biographies of his predecessors andsuccessors. Allah predisposed, from among scholars in Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), text

editing, and documentation, an elite whose performance dazzles human minds, delights

spirits, and prove (everything)withstrong evidence. Thus, the Prophets biography was

recorded in writing according to the principle of multiple rather than restricted narration

chains. It was doubly documented: both in the Holy Quran and in the Sunnah. It is not onlyrecorded in manuscripts but also engraved in human hearts. Its storage in scripted form has

been associated with feelings of veneration and reverence, combined with sentiments of

sincere love and admiration.

Its recording and documentation are manifest in the efforts exerted by successive

generations of great scholars who undertook the mission of documenting its narration chainsand respective events (namely, actions, speeches, and teachings), observing in all that

maximum precision and exactitude. Perhaps, the preservation of the Prophets biography is

implied in the assertion by Allah Sublime be Hethat His Holy Word will be immune from

corruption:

Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Qur'n)and surely, We will guard it (from corruption).[Al-Hijr: 9]

It has truly been preserved by trustworthy, scrupulous and meticulous people. ToAllah beour praise and gratitude!

The biography of our Prophet May Allahs Salatand Peace be upon him is not the

sheer narration of hadith and the tracking of his lifeMay Allahs Salatand Peace be upon

him. In its all-embracing definition, hisbiography means his life, path, guidance, features, the

model of his religiosity and his call to Islam, in addition to whatever was authentically

narrated as his hadith in connection with faith, tawheed (monotheism), rulings, and moralstandards involving all walks of life. This is because the life and biography of the Prophet

May Allahs Salatand Peace be upon him are the dynamic interpretation of the texts of

religion: the Holy Quran and the Sunnah.

In fact, hisbiography is not restricted only to the explanation of lexical items. It means

tawheedin opposition to shirk(polytheism), paganism and myths;it is unity in opposition to

disunity and dispersal; it is allegiance to the state in opposition to tribalism and kinsfolk

allegiance; it is legal provision and legislation in opposition to customs and traditions; it is a

nation in opposition to zealous partisanship and bigotry; it is reform and reconstruction in

opposition to sabotage and corruption; it is knowledge in opposition to ignorance andilliteracy.

It is asturdybiography of the Prophet which organises all the Muslimscourse of life.

Only through contemplating the Prophets biography and its collateral incidents can onediscern the delicate balance between rights and duties, justice and strength, compassion and

benevolence, consolation and equality,shoorah(i.e. mutual consultation) and administration,

and also between ornamenting the world and inhabiting theearth in such perfection,

beneficence, integration, cooperation, dutifulness, and altruism.

Cleanliness is half of the faith; prayer (salat) is light; charity is proof (in onesfavour); patience is brightness, and seeking knowledge is a (religious) duty. When Allah

ordains that someone shall be accorded good destiny, He will bestow upon him/her thefaculty of comprehending religion. In reality, what is the real meaning of fully understanding

religion but the comprehension of life, the rationale behind it and its ultimate purpose so as toproceed to the performance of righteous deeds?

SoufianeibnOyaynah May Allah bless his soul says: The Messenger of Allah

May Allahs Salat and Peace be upon him is the ultimate balance, indeed. He is the

criterion against whom matters are measured; that is his character, his way of life and his

guidance. If such things prove to be consonant therewith, then they are right, otherwise they

are false.

As a role model, the biography of the Select Prophetprovides the human with identity,

rational mind, and spiritual essence. It nurtures within the believer dignity short of vanity,

high aspiration short of arrogance, confidence short of self-conceit and assurance short of

indifference.

It is a biography and a model that stimulates a sense of responsibility, integrity,

rectitude and insightful call to(the Message of) Allah.

Now thenMay Allah have mercy on you!

Imam al-Hafedhibn Al-Qayyim May Allah bless his soul says: The need for the

Messenger of Allah May Allahs Salat and Peace be upon him among people is by far the

most pressing of all needs. Achieving happiness and success in the Herein and the Hereafter,

being able to tell good from evil, and the attainment of Allahs satisfaction may only be

carried out through the messengers. In fact, benevolence in deeds, words and manners makebut part of their teachings and mission where their own words, deeds and manners constitute

the most preponderant balance in this regard. It is through adherence to their ways andmeans that one may tell the righteous from the aberrant. Since mans happiness in the Herein

and the Hereafter is so dependent on the guidance of the Prophet May Allahs Salat andPeace be upon him then it is incumbent upon those who wish deliverance and happiness for

themselves to know his guidance, biography and early life.

We seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan:

And thus We have sent to you (O Muhammad ( Ruh (aRevelation, and a Mercy) of Our Command. You knew not what isthe Book, nor what is Faith? But We have made it (this Qurn) alight wherewith We guide whosoever of Our slaves We will. And

verily, you (O Muhammad

) are indeed guiding(mankind) to the Straight Path (i.e. Allhs Religion of IslmicMonotheism). The Path of Allh to Whom belongs all that is in theheavens and all that is in the earth. Verily, all matters at the end goto Allh (for decision).[Al-Shuraa: 52-53]

May Allah make the Great Quran and the guidance of Prophet Muhammad May

Allahs Salatand Peace be upon him beneficial to me and to you! I say this, and I ask Allah

to forgive me and you, so ask Him for forgiveness as He is the Most Forgiving, the Most

Merciful.

Part Two

Praise be to Allah! Praise be to Allah, through Whose praise reward is attained! I

praise Him for His abundant blessings as He is the All-Generous, the All-Giving. I bear

witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, with no partner; it is on

Him that I rely and it is from Him that I seek forgiveness. I also bear witness that our Master

and Prophet Muhammadis His Servant and Messenger; he came down with wisdom and the

ultimate truth. May Allahs profuseSalat, Peace and Blessing be upon him, his family,

Companions, the tabieen, and those who followed them in righteousness until the Day of

Judgement!

Now then, O Muslims!

It is, indeed, such a blessed Prophetic biography through which the Muslim Ummah

has been able to rise from wretchedness, to achieve glory after humiliation and knowledge

after ignorance. It has envisaged such an unmatched approach both in terms of originality and

elaboration regarding individual and common rights:

Indeed, there has come to you from Allh a light (ProphetMuhammad ) and a plain Book (this Qurn). WherewithAllh guides all those who seek His Good Pleasure to ways of peace,and He brings them out of darkness by His Will unto light andguides them to the Straight Way (Islmic Monotheism).[Al-Maedah:15-16]

The (Muslim) Ummah is the most benevolent among nations as it has followed the

most righteous approach to life. It has carried out jihad in the cause of Allah and has come

out victorious. It has prevailed but has always maintained its spirit of mercy and compassion.

It has ruled and maintained justice, it has governed with a disposition to openness. It has

blown up the springs of true knowledge after they had been depleted.

O Muslims!

This Ummahshall always remain one of benevolence until the Day of Judgement and

Allah willing Islam shall ever prevail despiteall thisgloom and all these tenebrouscalamities.

The commendable efforts of this blessed country and the outstanding initiatives it has

been able to set forth with the grace of Allah carry with them signs of benevolence and

felicity. Throughout its history, the blessed government of Saudi Arabia has always given

precedence to action over words. The records and achievements in this respect highlight the

kingdoms importance and leading role in the shaping of Islamic reality as well as its active

participation in keeping up with the global changes and needs.

It is this blessed country which hosts the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the

Muslim World League, the Islamic Development Bank, and the Gulf Cooperation Council, in

addition to its efforts and long-time established and outstanding role in the field of relief and

development across the Muslim world. This comes as an extension to its leading role in theservice and sponsorship of the Two Holy Mosques as well as the safeguarding of Islamic

sanctities, with Allahs grace and help.

Praise be to Allah! It is this country which, for nearly two decades, has been able to

achieve remarkable success in its struggle and fight against terrorism through the

implementation of such exceptional pre-emptive measures that are set to wipe out potential

terroristic threats. It is for this reason that the call and endeavours it has just launched in this

regard have been widely endorsed by the Muslim world leaders.

O Muslims!

In this auspiciousSalmanian2reign, areign featuring Decisive Storms and banners of

hope, there comes yet another such storm, though of a different type. The current exemplary

and successful coalition is followed by a blessed one and at a large scale. This coalitionembodies an initiative that is the first of its kind in modern history and that rallies such a

large number of our blessed Muslim countries.

It is a blessed Islamic coalition that marks a turning point in the history of Muslim

countries, from their (customary) stance of mere reaction to one of generating and initiating

action as well as carrying out pre-emptive moves when deemed necessary. It is firmness,hope and a break away from the fetters of subordination. It is a coalition that has come to

enhance Islamic unity and to lay bare the ill intentions of those malevolent opportunisticpowers that seek to harm the supreme interests of the Muslim Ummah in order to carry out

their own selfish ends. It is a coalition that shall Allah willing put an end to those evilmachinations against the region and Muslim nations. It is a coalition for the glory of Allahs

religion, the Ummahs dignity, good living, stability, reform, and development.

This coalition reflects the ability and determination of Muslims to implement their

truthful Islamic approach in order to remedy their own problems and to defend their faith and

countries themselves. This blessed coalition is what all Muslims are looking forward to. It hastaken over the heart and soul of every one of them as they witness their Ummah, with all its

leaders and politicians, trying to act together towards ensuring its unity, achieving its ultimategoal, establishing its own path and proceeding forward with certainty.

With this coalition, the true and mighty outlook of Islam has just come into view

Allah willing. Along with this, the Muslim Ummahrises as a nation aspiring to live in peace

and harmony with itself and withthe other nations in the world.

It is a blessed coalition that is making its way towards achieving the long-awaited

Islamic unity while observing, at the same time and within the bounds of reason, mutualrespect for thedifferent Islamic denominations, and keeping away from interfering into the

affairs of other countries or stirring sedition and feuds.

It is a noble gathering geared towards achieving unity, ensuring decent living and

security, bringing under control the terroristsextremists and fanatics and towards

respectinginternational and bilateral conventions and agreements. All of this is motivated by

the drive to rally the Muslim Ummah in the face of all that would pose a threat to it and

imperil its interests.

O Muslims!

This blessed coalition comes to endorse the common stand of the Muslim countriesconcerning the denunciation, fight and containment of terrorism as well as the drainage of its

resources. This in itself confirms that Islam has nothing to do with terrorists and theiractions. The so-called daesh (or ISIS), which is the mother and the most modern form of

terrorism, is by no means a state. It is rather a group of gangs that have come together from

different parts of the world and that are sponsored by those who fund, arm and support them.

O brothers and sisters!

Though practiced by some individuals who belongto the Sunni community, this

terrorism is not strictly limited to them, for there are over thirty terrorist organizations fromother factions and denominations that are set to kill on the basis of identity, displace people,

tear apart countries, separate families and serve the evil purposes of what is known as thecreative chaos theory.

By the grace and will of Allah, this blessed coalition is set to provide protection from

the evil of these terrorist groups and organizations whatever their denominations, affiliations

and names. These terrorists seek to wreak havoc on earth, tear apart the Muslim Ummahand

distortthe imageofIslam.

This coalition will also reveal the truth about those who support, endorse and nurtureterrorism ideologically, politically and financially.

Now thenMay Allah protect you and sustain your glory!

May Allah bless these efforts, grant success to those initiating them, and unite

Muslims on the grounds of truth, guidance and the Sunnah!

It may be beneficial to seek through this blessed coalition the foundation of a supreme

commission of the UmmahsUlema (religious scholars), politicians and media people to serve

as a consultative body for all the Muslim countries and their institutions. The ultimatepurpose would be to firmly establish the provisions, fundamentals, precepts, moderation and

openness of Islam in the media, educational curricula and platforms in order to deal with

ideological, educational and informational issues. This ought to be implemented bearing inmind the effort, time, funds, planning, dedication, and patience required in this respect. It is

Allahs help we seek, and it is on Him we rely.And there is no strength or power except with

the support of Allah!

Therefore, do observe taqwaMay Allah have mercy on you and bear in mind that

Islam is there to stay thanks to the protection of Allah Almighty; it is there to stay thanks to

its might, charisma, and endurance; it is there to stay thanks to the efforts of people ofintegrity among Muslims, and notwithstanding all the wars, machinations, allegations, and

falsifications targeting it.

This is said, you are called upon to seek closeness to Allah Almighty and to yourProphet Muhammad May Allahs Salatand Peace be upon him by asking Allah Almighty

to send His Salat and Peace upon this chosen and beloved Prophet. By so doing, you will

have complied with the command of Allah. Allah Almighty and His angels will send their

Salat upon you; hence, your status will be raised, your bad deeds erased, your good ones

recorded, your supplications answered and you shall be rewarded for whatever has caused

you to suffer.

Sending yoursalaton the Chosen Prophet is an act of self-purification and a means toget you to paradise; it is an enlightening torch while on the Siraat3and a way to keep your

balance while crossing it. It is a means to receive praise from the dwellers of heaven andearth and to earn the mercy of Allah and the love of His Prophet.

O Allah! Send Your Salat, Peace and Blessing on Your Servant and Messenger, our

Prophet, Muhammad, the beloved and the Chosen One, on his virtuous and immaculate

family and on his wives, Mothers of the Believers! O Allah! Bepleasedwiththe four

CaliphsAbu Bakr, Omar, Othman, and Ali the Prophets Companions, the tabiinand thosewho followed them in righteousness until the Day of Judgement! O Allah! Bepleased withus,

along withthem, by YourClemency, Munificence, and Beneficence, O You, the MostGenerous!

(an Arabic word

) is, in Islam, a narrow bridge over Hellfire which every person has to cross on theDay of Judgement to enter Paradise. Depending on ones beliefs and deeds, some cross it swiftly, others

slowly. Still others do not make it, and they end falling down into Hellfire.

O Allah! Grant glory to Islam and Muslims! O Allah! Grant glory to Islam and

Muslims! O Allah! Grant glory to Islam and Muslims, and fail polytheism and polytheists! O

Allah! Let down tyrants,atheists and all other enemies of Islam!

O Allah! Grant us security in our homelands, and set right our Imamsand leaders! O

Allah! Entrust our government to those who fearYou and seek Your satisfaction, O Lord ofthe Worlds!

O Allah! Grant our Imamand Leader a success of Your own! Honour him with hisobedience to Youand make Your Word the uppermost through him! Make him an asset to

Islam and Muslims! Guide him, his deputies, brothers and aides to do what You love and

please, and lead them to righteousness and piety!

O Allah! Help the Muslim leaders to abide by Your Book and to follow the Sunnahof

Your Prophet, Mohammad May Allahs Salat and Peace be upon him! Make them a

blessing on Your faithful, and unite them on the grounds of righteousness and truth! O Lordof the Worlds!

O Allah! Set right the conditions of Muslims! O Allah! Set right the conditions of

Muslims everywhere! O Allah! Spare their blood and unite them on the grounds ofrighteousness, guidance and the Sunnah! O Allah! Entrust them to the best among them and

spare them the evil of the malevolent among them! O Allah! Spread security, justice and

prosperity in their homelands and safeguard them against all evils and seditions, those that

are apparent and those that are concealed!

Glorified be our Lord,the Lord of Honour and Power! You are free from what theyattribute unto You! May peace be upon all the Messengers! And all praise be to Allah, the
