Introduction
A tremendous amount of research is now being undertaken by physicists in the field of super-conductivity, a group of phenomena which, when fully controlled, will revolutionise human existence to a greater extent than the industrial revolution. Certain of the Rare Earth group of elements appear to be essential to the creation of superconductive media and therefore there is a growing interest in the distribution and and amounts of Rare Earths in the accessible crustal rocks and in the development and mining of Rare Earth ore reserves.
Since the Bancroft Area is known to contain widely distributed occurrences of Rare Earths, and since Rare Earths are frequently associated with thorium and to a lesser extent uranium, it was decided to do a quick check for Rare Earths of the known areas of radioactivity on the Enertex claims.
At the present time the markets for Rare Earths are exceedingly limited. Yttrium ia in the greatest demand for use in colour video screens. Europium is also used in this connection. The market for Yttrium amounts to some 500 tons per year at a price of about US$52.50 per pound. Gadolinium is used as a highly efficient heat sink. Apparently it has the potential of eliminating the need for compressors in all refrigeration and air conditioning units. It is anticipated that the market for Gadolinium will double many times in the next 10 years. In their first quarter 1987 Report to Shareholders General Motors announced the opening of a new plant in Michigan to manufacture a new style of starter motor for cars and trucks. The starters will use magnets which contain Yttrium, Even more recently, General Motors has announced that their scientists are using Praesodynium and Neodyriium in their research into super-conductivity.
Landair Property - Fl norite Zone
An extensive re-assaying for Rare Earths and Yttrium of sample pulps and rejects from the diamond drilling completed in the middle 1970's has been completed. Had the 1974 and 1975 rejects and pulps not been available, it would have required some 8500 linear feet of drilling to gain the information herein reported. The sections re-assayed were primarily the fluorite ore zones and little or none of the wall rocks were tested as these had never been sampled. Therefore, in 1988 as much as is possible of the old core will be recovered and certain of the wall rocks sampled.
The original drill logs showing uranium, thorium and fluorite assays are attached hereto, the new Rare Earth and Yttrium results are recorded on supplementary drill logs. The assay data, as received from the laboratory is also attached.
The following tab]e lists some of the Yttrium intersections. For a proper and thorough evaluation of the results, the drill logs and supplementary logs must be examined.

Conclusions and Recommendations
1.- The re-assaying of old pulps and rejects has proven that Yttrium and Rare Earths in above normal amounts occur in all of the samples which contain significant amounts of fluorite, uranium, and thorium. This fact has been established over a strike length of about 2000 feet.
2.- There are at least two fluorite horizons of equal length, both containing Yttrium and Rare Earths. On first appraisal the upper Fluorite Horizon appears to be the richer one in Yttrium and Rare Earths.
3.- The Yttrium and Rare Earth content varies directly with the fluorite and thorium content. However, the fluorite content seems to have the stronger influence. The Yttrium content does not seem to be always directly relatedto the Rare; Earth content.
4.- Further appraisal of the Yttrium and Rare Earth content of the Fluorite Zones is recommended. This should include a sampling, where possible of th old drill cores with special emphasis on the rock lying in between thevarious fluorite intersections.
(A) Cardiff Mine Dump
The grab sample results from the Cardiff mine dump are very informative with respect to disclosing the types of rock and mineralization that either carry or no not carry substantive amounts of the Rare Earth Elements. These relationships are best summarised as a list.
1.- The uraninite crystals are very rich in yttrium and the rare earths to the extent that they totaled 23940.0 part per million or roughly 2.3X of the uraninite crystal.
2.- The limestone wallrock within which a well distributed unknown mineral weathers to a orange brown colour contains very little yttrium and Rare Earths.
3.- The greenish coloured calc-silicate wall rock contains substantial amounts of yttrium and Rare Earths; 1236 ppm or 0.127.. Only one sample of this type was available.
4.- T'h t; pure biotite cyy-stal^ contain very luw amounts of Yttrium and RareEar "I,:'! i ,
5.- T h i-.? fluorite "ore" (purple fluorite, calcite, end minor biotite and green apatite ,: C" vi. a i r; signif ie.a:'ii amounts of Yttrium and Rare Earths. Con'-1 us ions and Recommendat lens
I.- The 7 samples cc.31ec.ted have provided useful information as to the distribution of Yttrium and Rare Earths in the rocks found in the Cardiff Minto, Tht.' should bev sampled further to try anr.' tjairi additional informationof this type,,
Carbrew Property
No sampling was done on the Carbren property. It contains no significantly large f laurite occurrences but i i; does, contain a radioactive zone with zircon and minor fluorite and a l arge molybdenum showing. The property should be surface
Fission Mine Property
Like the La r i da ir and Cardiff properties the Fission Mine property contains two fluorite /unt'S lying some 350 feet: apaK. strat igraphical ly, Both have extensive lengths, measurable in hundreds of feet. Between 1940 and 1950 the properties i-nvrt:- exp.''..i"'fc"d for uranium; the Lower Zone by diamond drilling, and an adit entry and Uifr Upper- Zone by diamond drilling alone. The results of this early work are avc,i lablh. only in part and are not of the quality required by modern exploration.
The Bl own , s in obtaining results from the assay office delayed sampling on the Fission Property until after the; first flight snowfall. This was just enough to reduce-' ': ; :ri effactivsntsb of surface sampling consequently only a few samples from the better e-xposEC treiichtis on the Upper Fluorite Zone were collected. T !;riet- ;.\n* l isted and described a r M:, h e */. c ompany;'ng Rctre Earth Data S!'\eet.
The iiamplt? richest in Yttrium and i h t Rart Earth?; contained about equal amounts [.if i:alc:ite and fluolite and about l.;")'/, apatite. Samples corttaining much less ..-.'.patite also returnee! gocjd valuc-i to t h f Yttrium and Rare? Earth values appear :)-i.;rt? dependent on fluorite than apatite,, AU in all, the values are not much different from those attained in the Landair d-'ill core some 3.5 miles to the south.
Conclusions and Recommendations
1.- The preliminary sampling clearly indicates that further sampling must be done in 1988,
2.- Sample 4960, a chunk of massive pyroxene altered to hornblende carries very little Yttrium and rare Earths whereas Sample 4963, a chunk of calc- silicate rock with very little calcite or fluorite, carries significant values.
(B) Powerex Uranium ZoneRe-Sampling ?* Assaying Pulps and Rejects from Early Drill Programs
Some 34 pulps and rejects from the 1975 and 1976 drill programs on the Powerex
Uranium zone were re-assayed for Rare Earths. The samples represent a. reasonable crass section of the uranium rich Main Zone as well as some samples from the smaller, narrower, thorium rich areas. By and large, the Yttrium values are disappointing: with the highest result being 284 ppm over 0.6 feet and the lowest 24 pprn over 2.4 feet. In general all of the results show less that 100 to 125 ppm Yttrium or roughly 0.2 Ibs per ton, Similarly, the other Rare Earth elements, though universally present, occur in very low amounts.
Conclusions and Recommendations
1.- Rare Earth sampling on the uranium rich Powerex Main Zone has returned disappointingly low Rare Earth values. Further appraisal of this zone at this time does not appear warranted.
2.- Pegmatite dikes (or altered arkosic beds) on Doth the eastern and western extremities of the Main Uranium Zone are known to be rich in thorium. These warrant surface sampling.
Allanite Zone
This is the richest known Yttrium and Rare Earth showing in the Bancroft Area. Diamond drilling has indicated that the zone has considerable length and unknown depth. It is open to the west. Adit entry is possible and would permit the recovery of a considerable tonnage of mineralization. The large swamp below and to the west of the Allanite showing contains a very extensive and relatively high grade fluorite anomaly which has never been drill tested.
Two high grade grab samples were collected, one from the large west trench and one from the centre trench. The assay results are listed on the accompanying Rare Earth record sheet. Both samples returned very high values in Rare Earths and Yttrium- namely 0.27. yttrium and S.947. AND 10.197. total Rare Earths and Yttrium. The core, drilled in the early 1950's is stored on the property and some of it can be salvaged and re-sampled. One notes that unsarnpled section of allanite are recorded in the aid drill logs.
Conclusions and Recommendations
1.- Since the property is under option to another company, no additional work is recommended at this time.
2.- Further exploration arid/or development work on the allanite Showing should include a drill testing of the fluorite anomalous swamp.
General Conclusions and Recommendations
1.- The 1987 sampling and assaying program has established the presence of significant Yttrium and Rare Earth values in two separate horizons intermittently over a strike length of about 3.5 miles. This strike length refers only to the Fission, Carbrew, Cardiff, and Landair properties.
2.- The general tenor of the mineralization is about 0.75 Ibs. Yttrium and about 4 Ibs. Rare Earths per ton. Associated intimately with this material are significant values in fluorite and low values in uranium and thorium.
3.- Virtually nothing is known about the Yttrium and Rare Earths content of the wall rocks of the calcite-fluorite vein dikes.
P-.3-
4.- The economic potential cjf the mineralized zones are unknown. It is known that the fluorite and uranium by themselves are not economic at today's prices. How much the Yttrium and Rare Earths can increase the value of the mineralization is unknown. At present, Yttrium and Rare Earths markets are small in volume. No doubt the discovery of superconductivity will increase the volume of these markets but the increase in volume.may bring about a decrease in price.
5.- The Powerex sample rejects and pulps did not respond well to assaying for Yttrium and Rare Earths. Further check sampling of these materials is not recommended. The thorium rich arkosic beds lying to the east and west of
the Powerex uraniferous zone should be surface sampled.
6.- The Allanite Showing is by far the richest occurrence of Yttrium and Rare Earths known in the Bancroft Area. Physically, it lends itself to cheap and easy development by adit entry from which a significant tonnage of rich mineralisation could be recovered. The large fluorite anomaly adjoining it on the west warrants exploration.
7.- The 1987 Sampling Program must be regarded as a success and warrants continuation into 1988. Additional emphasis should be placed on assaying the wall rocks and some testing for the elements scandium and niobium should be undertaken.
This report is respectfully submitted.
