Method Statement

1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1 Introduction

SNC LAVALIN has awarded to KETTANEH Construction Saudi Arabia Ltd. the subcontract for the construction of KING ABDULLAH FINANCIAL DISTRICT, RIYADH, K.S.A.

1.2 Purpose

To provide the basic procedure and guidelines including safety requirements for the installation of Air Handling Units (AHU’S) including all related various construction activities such as Transporting & Lifting of Equipments

1.3 Scope of Work

This method statement outlined the procedure for the Air Handling Units Installation in accordance with project specifications and approved drawings.

1.4 Location

Air Handling Units Shall be installed at Roof specified in the approved drawings for the KAFD, Riyadh KSA.

2.0 EXECUTION

2.1 Materials and Equipments

2.2 Procedures of Erection

2.2.1 Installers, Erectors, Operators, Riggers & Drivers

a. Installation of Air Handling Unit shall be done by trained personnel in the proper handling and usage of applicable tools and equipments prior to start of installation.

b. Only certified Operators, Riggers & Drivers are allowed to participate in the installation process.

c. Erectors & Installers shall be in good physical condition and be able to work freely and safely.

2.2.2 Preparation of Erection and Installation

a. Prior to start of installation; survey the job site for potential hazards such as debris and other hazards.

b. Ground surface should be checked of stability prior to positioning of trucks & mobile cranes.

c. Lifting works shall not be done during storms or high winds.d. The working area for the positioning of crane, truck and the Air

Handling Unit to be installed shall be marked. Warning signs and barricades shall be provided where necessary.

e. All other tools and equipments for the handling & lifting of the Air Handling Units such as slings, ropes and pipe rollers shall be checked before the start of the work.

f. All access shall be cleared before the installation process starts.

2.2.3 Transporting of the AHU’s to the Job Site

a. The Air Handling Units shall be taken from KCS Lay-down area by truck (trailer).

b. The Air Handling Unit shall be loaded into the truck by the use of Mobile Crane with suitable capacity.

c. All safety procedures shall be observed during lifting of the AHU.

d. The AHU shall be secured at the top of the trailer by use of cargo belts or ropes.

e. The AHU then be brought to the Building area.f. Make sure that the area is cleared before arrival of the truck

and the mobile crane.

2.2.4 Installation of AHU’s

a. The truck and crane shall be positioned beside the HVAC Room of as shown in the attached drawing.

b. The AHU shall be lifted by mobile crane with suitable capacity from the truck up to the Roof

c. The AHU shall be then moved with the help of suitable number of workers to the AHU concrete foundation.

d. All other accessories such as bolts, rubber pads shall be provided for final fixing of the AHU.

e. Ductworks & Refrigerant piping connections can be started immediately after the AHU has been placed to its final position as per approved drawings.

3.0 SAFETY

3.1 Guidelines

a. Person(s) working with the installation of the AHU(s) shall wear the Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) at all times on the job site.

b. Warning sign boards and barricades shall be provided where necessary to isolate the working area and prevent unauthorized personnel.

c. Safety belts shall be used whenever required.d. Riggers shall be provided whenever heavy material is to be lifted

by crane.e. Only certified operators & riggers are allowed to work in the

lifting of equipments.f. All equipments and vehicles used for transporting and lifting of

equipments shall be approved by SNC

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

a. Site Engineer shall organize, manage and supervise all activities related to the installation of AHU with regards to safety, quality and productivity of the over-all performance of the work.

b. Site supervisor and foreman shall arrange all the necessary manpower, tools and equipments and implement the approved working procedure for a proper execution of the work.

c. Safety Inspector / Officer in conjunction with the site supervisor or foreman shall physically check and conform that all safety requirements had been provided and implemented.

d. Operators & riggers of lifting equipments shall follow and implement proper safe working procedure at all times.
