Port Blair, July 16 The Secretary, IP&T, Shri Sunil Kumar Singh while briefing media on COVID-19 held in the conference hall of IP&T today stated that two corona positive cases have been detected during the RTPCR test conducted on 349 passengers who arrived here yesterday. He said, RAT was conducted on 234 persons bound for Middle & North Andaman at Ferrargunj Media briefed on COVID-19 Secretary (IP&T) hails tremendous response of people towards vaccination drive and it is encouraging to note that no positive case was detected. About vaccination drive which is smoothly conducted in the Islands, he said that till 3 pm today, 1952 eligible persons were inoculated in South Andaman District, out of which 352 were in the age group of 18-44. Today, 1 flight with 153 passengers arrived here and their RTPCR reports are awaited. He said, out of the total 2,81,603 (approx) target beneficiaries to be vaccinated, 2,48,150 have been administered doses of vaccine. The Secretary also urged the people to follow COVID appropriate behaviour to protect themselves and other members of the family from the virus. The Deputy Director, G.B. Pant Hospital, Dr. Amitabha De informed that the number of corona positive patients admitted in the G. B Pant Hospital is presently 5, out of which, 1 patient is on Oxygen support and no patient is on ventilator. No COVID patients are admitted in the COVID Care Centres in Port Blair. In this connection, the Officials of Food Safety Department of District Administration conducted surprise inspections in and around Port Blair Municipal area. During the inspection, huge quantities of Gutkha, Pan Masala, Khaini and scented tinned tobacco were seized. Punitive actions as deemed fit are being initiated against the violators. The District Magistrate, South Andaman District has warned all concerned to refrain from sale of tobacco products to deter public from spitting in public places to contain the spread of COVID 19 in the District.
