1. GENERAL1.1 Intent
This specification defines qualities of the piping materials which shall be included in theplant designed by CTCI OVERSEAS CORP., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as CTCI)
1.2 Scope1.2.1 This specification shall be applied to piping materials indicated on the Piping and
instrument Diagram (hereinafter referred to as P& ID).However, piping systems furnished as a regular part of equipment or package,shall be in accordance with project specification 000-50S-0033.
1.2.2 When the piping is connected to the equipment, this specification shall beapplied to the extent as indicated below:
(1) Companion flanges, gaskets, bolts and nuts at equipment nozzle.(2) First block valve(*) with companion flanges, gaskets, bolts and nuts in the
instrument line.(3) Companion flanges, gaskets, bolts and nuts for pressure relief valves.(4) Companion flanges, gaskets, bolts and nuts at the matching point between
the piping furnished as part of equipment by its manufactures and thatprovided by CTCI.(*) “First block valve“ in the instrument connecting line as used herein shallmean the nearest valve to a line to which the instrument is connected.
1.2.3 This specification shall not be applied to specially designed companion flanges,gaskets, bolts and nuts at the equipment nozzle.
1.3 Codes and Standards1.3.1 This specification is based on the ASME Code for Pressure Piping, ASME B31.3
“Process Piping” 2008 edition.
1.3.2 Unless otherwise specified, the latest edition of listing codes in ASME B31.3 shallbe used.
1.4 Units
Unless otherwise specified, metric, Celsius and kilogram units shall be applied as themeasurement system for the all drawings and documents. However, nominal sizes ofpiping components shall be in accordance with inch system, which abbreviation is (B).(refer to Z01-G04 and SK-Z01-G04)

2. MATERIALS2.1 Standard Materials
Materials shall be generally in accordance with 000-85S-0001 “Materials Selection” andwelding shall be in accordance with ASME II and ASME IX respectively. Materials for
pressure component shall be per ASME B31.3 materials.2.2 Copper and Copper Alloys
Copper-based alloys shall not be used in ammonia service. Alloys with a coppercontent greater than 50% shall not be used in service where acetylene in a wetenvironment is present.
2.3 Material Classification2.3.1 Appendix VI “Piping Material Classes” contains piping material specifications
which is classified in accordance with the pressure and temperatures for eachline, and medium in the line.

2.4 Carbon ContentCarbon steel containing carbon content of more than 0.23% shall not be used inwelded construction, or in piping materials to be shaped by oxygen cutting or thermalcutting process.
2.5 Hot dip galvanized process shall be done for galvanized piping components. (Refer to000-50S-0036)
2.6 Materials for Oxygen Service All materials for oxygen service require special consideration and are governed byspecific material classes.
2.7 Sour ServiceDissimilar welding shall not be applied between carbon and stainless steel. The specialrequirements shall be kept and referred to NACE MR0175 in design and construction.The requirements for material in amine service shall be as per 000-85S-0001,“Appendix A”.
2.8 Positive Material Identification (Refer to SK-Q01-T07 and Q01-T07)For alloy piping components, PMI tests shall be performed at the manufacture’s shop.
Alloy metal means low alloy steel containing more than 0.5% total alloy elements (ex.Cr-Mo, C-Ni), intermediate and high alloy steels, nickel based alloys, copper basedalloys, other non-ferrous metals.Manufacturer is responsible for preparing detailed procedure subject to CTCI’s/ Ownerapproval. PMI specification shall be issued to Vendor/ Manufacturer, all requirementsfor PMI tests shall be governed by PMI specification.
2.9 Heat Treatment (refer to 000-85S-0005)
2.9.1 In addition to the requirements of ASME B31.3 post weld heat treatment (PWHT)is required for the following service:
(1) Chrome-Moly piping for all services(2) Monel piping in HF acid service(3) Carbon steel piping containing amines at a concentration greater than
2.0wt%
(4) Any other service as shown in P&ID’s
2.9.2 The weld metal tensile strength for killed carbon steel pipe in hydrogen sulphideservice shall be essentially the same as the pipe being welded and all weldsexcept socket welds shall have a maximum weld hardness 200 Brinell. At leastone hardness reading shall be taken near the center of the weld. Readings shallbe taken with a Telebrineller or equal instrument calibrated at 200 Brinell. Whereweld hardness exceed 200 Brinell, the welds shall be postweld heat treated.

2.9.3 When Charpy V-notch impact testing is required for a component that will be heattreated, the testing specimens shall be supplied in the same heat treatedcondition as new pipe.
2.9.4 Large diameter piping shall be supported and stiffened to prevent conditionduring heat treatment.
2.9.5 Flange facings shall be protected against oxidation during heat treatment.
2.9.6 Flame impingement is prohibited at all times.
2.9.7 Piping requiring post weld heat treatment shall have all welded-on non-pressureattachments installed by the shop fabrication prior to heat treatment.

2.10 Non-destructive Examination (NDE) (refer to 000-85S-0005)
2.10.1 General
(1) Examination shall be in accordance with ASME B31.3 and projectspecification.
(2) Weld between dissimilar materials shall be examined by the method and tothe extent required for the material requiring the more stringent examination.
(3) Welds jointing non-pressure retaining components to pressure retainingcomponents shall be fully dye penetrant or magnetic examined.
(4) ASME Class 900 and greater cast valves assemblies and integral flangesshall have a casting quality factor 100 percent. The examination shall beperformed by radiography in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Division 1,
Appendix 7 and project specification.For 2 inch and smaller forged valves Class 900 and over, if radiography innot possible, a helium mass spectrometer test (probe technique) inaccordance with ASME Section V, Subsection A, Article 10, Appendix V isacceptable. Casting repairs and identification shall meet the requirements ofparagraph 7-4 and 7-5 of Appendix 7 of ASME Section VIII, Division 1 andproject specification.
2.10.2 Socket WeldsMinimum welding dimensions for socket welding components shall be inaccordance with ASME B31.3, Fig.328.5.2.C. (ex. 1.5mm approx. gap beforewelding)

2.11 Environmental EvaluationEnvironmental pollution, disruption and sanitation shall be considered in selectingpiping materials.
3. REQUIRMENTS3.1 Pipes
3.1.1 Pipe dimensions shall be in accordance with ASME B36.10M for welded andseamless wrought steel pipe and with ASME B36.19M for stainless steel pipe,unless otherwise specified.
3.1.2 Pipe made by acid Bessemer process shall not be acceptable. Steel pipe shall bemade by open hearth, electric furnace or basic oxygen processes.
3.1.3 Butt-welding end preparation shall be in accordance with ASME B16.25.
3.1.4 The thickness of threaded nipples shall be calculated in accordance with ASMEB31.3.
3.1.5 Pipe tolerances shall be in accordance with applicable material code.
3.1.6 Pipe thickness shall be calculated in accordance with ASME B31.3. Thecalculation sheets shall be submitted to owner for approval.
3.1.7 Polyethylene coated pipes shall be manufactured in accordance with
Specification 000-50S-0041.Polypropylene coated pipes shall be manufactured in accordance withSpecification 000-50S-0041.
3.1.8 Line Class “1FE0D01” conditions are as follows :(1) Material : GRE(Epoxy Resin) : ASTM D2996 TYPE I
- End Conn. : Bondstrand Quick-Lock Adhesive Straight Spigot and Taperedbell
(2) Fluid- Gravity drains(U/G), Oily water and Process sewers(U/G)
(3) Design Press. /Temp. : 2.24bar.G / 120
(4) Pipe Wall Thickness shall be determined by vendor as per given lineconditions.
(5) Inside Diameter of GRP Piping shall be in accordance with AWWA C-950,Table-2.(6) UV stabilizer protection for sunlight to be required.(7) Surge Analysis to be performed by vendor if required.(8) Specification "P01-E28-01(Qualification of FRP Pipe and Components) and
P01-E28-03(Design Requirements for Underground FRP Piping System)shall be incorporated by manufacturers and detail designer.

3.1.9 Mercury, aluminium, cooper, cooper alloys, galvanised metals, zinc or zinc alloysshall not be used for materials that come in contact with the process fluid.
3.2 Valves3.2.1 Gate, globe and check valves
(1) Forged steel valves (socket welding or threaded ends) shall be inaccordance with API 602 for class 600 and lower, and ASME B16.34 forclass 900 and higher, unless otherwise specified.
(2) Cast steel valves (flanged or butt-welding ends) shall be in accordance with API 600, unless otherwise specified.
(3) Pressure seal shall be in accordance with ASME B16.34, if required.
3.2.2 Ball valves shall conform to ASME B16.34 or API 608 or BS EN ISO 17292, plugvalves shall conform to API 599.
3.2.3 Butterfly valves shall conform to API 609, wafer type check valves shall conformto API 594.
3.2.4 Corrosion resistant valves (normally austenitic stainless steel) in class 150 shallbe in accordance with API 603, unless otherwise specified.
3.2.5 Bronze valves shall conform to MSS SP-80, “Gate, Globe, Angle and Check
valves”.
3.2.6 Face-to-face and end-to-end dimensions of steel valves shall conform to ASMEB16.10 to the extent covered. Valve supplier shall furnish certified dimensiondrawings for all valves.
3.2.7 Butt-welding end valves shall be furnished with ends to match pipe schedule.
3.2.8 End preparation shall be in accordance with ASME B16.25.
3.2.9 End connection of threaded valves shall be in accordance with ASME B1.20.1.End connection of socket welding valves shall be in accordance with ASME
B16.11.
3.2.10 Bonnet gasket materials shall be compatible with the gasket materials specifiedin the individual material class, unless otherwise specified.
3.2.11 Features not covered by the valve descriptions shall be in accordance withmanufacturer’s standard suitable for the intended application, subject to ownerapproval.

3.2.12 Where used carbon steel bonnet, cap bolts are normally furnished with ASTM A193 grade B7, they shall be furnished in the liquid quenched and temperedcondition.
3.2.13 Bonnet, cap bolts shall not furnished with ASTM A307.
3.2.14 Unless otherwise specified in the individual material class, manual gearoperators shall be supplied for the following size and larger.

3.2.15 The gate valves with 2-piece or split wedge shall not be used, unless specificapproval is obtained. The 2-piece or split wedge type shall not be used in steamservice.
3.2.16 Swing check valves shall be provided with a boss at location ”G” when the wallthickness is insufficient to permit a drain tap(3/4 for valve size 2B and larger).Bosses and taps shall comply with the requirements of para. 6.3 of ASMEB16.34. Valves shall not be tapped, unless otherwise specified on the purchaseorder.
3.2.17 Swing check valves shall be provided with limit stops to prevent disc fromremaining in the open position and also suitable for horizontal as well as verticalinstallation with flow upward.
3.2.18 The operating levers or handles on ball valves and plug valves shall indicate, bytheir position, whether the valve is open or closed.The open position shall be indicated when the lever or handle points in adirection parallel to the flow through the valves. In addition, it shall be impossibleto reverse the indicating position inadvertently during reassemble of the valve.
3.2.19 Ball valves are not permitted as drain or bleed valves in hydrocarbon service.
3.2.20 Lubricated plug valves shall not be used, unless otherwise specified.
3.2.21 Fire-safe ball valves design shall be in accordance with API 607, where fire-safedesign specified in the individual class.
3.2.22 Valves in no-flow connections (such as vents and pressure gauges) may beinstalled at an angle up to 90 degrees from vertical (i.e. may be installed invertical pipe) in service below minus(-)50 .

3.2.23 Unless otherwise specified, valve stem packing shall be flexible graphite(Grafoil) with braided graphite filament end rings in accordance with themanufacturer’s standard. The packing material shall be fully described invendor’s quotation and shall be approved by piping material engineer.
3.2.24 For all valves the fugitive emissions shall be below 500 ppm and supplier shallcertify all valves and packing to limit the fugitive emission.
3.2.25 Valve numbering system shall be followed in accordance with specification”000-50S-0063”

3.2.26 The upstream side of the LTCS valve shall be provided with a 3 mm bleed holefor relieving the pressure in the valve cavity for gate and ball valves.High pressure side (balance hole opening side) shall be marked on the outside
of the valve body.
3.2.27 Valve size over 36B shall be fitted with adapter drive and bracket for air wrench-2" hexagon nut.
3.2.28 Rubber seat butterfly valves shall be limited up to temperature 100
3.2.29 Teflon seated valves are limited to maximum temperature 400 (204 ).
3.3 Flanges
3.3.1 Flanges shall be as follows:

3.3.3 Flanges of unlisted materials and flanges not covered by the above standards shallbe designed in accordance with ASME Section VIII Div 1, Appendix 2 and for blindflanges, in accordance with ASME Section VII Div 1, Section UG-34.
3.3.4 Size for reducing or blind flanges are indicated by nominal pipe sizes.
3.3.5 Flat face flanges with full-face gaskets shall be used against flat face cast ironequipment and valve flanges and FRP with flat face.
3.3.6 End preparation of welding neck flanges shall be in accordance with ASME B16.25.The bore of welding neck flanges shall correspond to the inside diameter of theconnecting pipe or fitting, permitting a thickness difference up to 1.6mm.When the
difference in wall thickness between the two components being joined exceeds1.6mm, taper boring shall be performed on the component having the heavier wallper ASME B16.25.
3.3.7 Ring type joint flanges shall have groove conforming to ASME B16.20.
3.3.8 Steel line blanks shall conform to ASME B16.48.
3.4 Fittings
3.4.1 All fittings shall be as follows:
(1) Forged steel socket welding and threaded fittings
(2) Malleable cast iron threaded fittings(Class 150,300)(3) Butt-welding fittings and stub ends(4) Butt-welding short radius elbows and returns(5) Steel flanged fittings(6) Cast iron flanged fittings(7) Swaged nipples and Bull plug(8) Forged branch outlet fitting
3.4.2 End preparation of butt-welding fittings shall be in accordance with ASME B16.25.When butt-welding fittings are specified with a wall thickness larger than that of thepipe and this results in misalignment greater than 1.6mm between the insidesurfaces of the parts to be jointed, the fitting shall be taper bored per ASME B16.25.
3.4.3 All lines which connect to another line or header, including instrument connections,vents and drains are considered as branch connections. The basis for design ofbranch connection shall be in accordance with the applicable ASME Code.Reinforcement requirements shall be determined by ASME B31.3 Para.304.3.Branches shall be made with un-reinforced or reinforced stub-ons with the followingexceptions.

3.5 Gaskets
3.5.1 All gaskets shall be as follows:

3.6 Bolts and Nuts for Flange 3.6.1 Bolts and nuts shall be as follows:
(1) Bolts and nuts shall be heavy hexagon bolts and nuts, and shall conform to ASME B18.2.1 and B18.2.2 respectively.(2) Threads shall conform to coarse thread series, ASME B1.1. Number of threads
shall be 8 per one inch for bolt size U1-1/8” and larger.(3) Accuracy of threads and fineness of finish in accordance with ASME B1.1.
