Further changes in the department in prospect, it is said. “Charles Ferger. assistant in charge of window shades, is on va- cation and we may not have work for him immediately on his return,” Rickes stated. According to Rickes Rochford is not in good health and the other two men are not trained for the po- sitions they have held. There is a discrepancy in ac- counting in the school shops of $4,000 to $5,000, it was learned. Rich- ard O. Johnson, business director, explained the matter is wholly one of bookkeeping, and is not due to misuse of school property. DAWES BEGINS CAMPAIGN FOR VICE PRESIDENT Declares War on Dema- gogues as Be Talks to Neighbors in Rain, By Vnited Brest CHICAGO, June 18. —Charles G. Dawes, explosive Republican vice presidential nominee, nas leaped into the campaign without '.Writing for official notification of his nomination. “Dawes just had to say some- thing,” William M. Butler, chairman of the national Republican commit- tee, remarked with a broad smile,' "so he said it.” Stands in Rain Standing in a heavy rain, with water streaming down his bared head and into the collar of a rain coat, Dawes told a gathering of men and women on the east lawn of his Evanston home that he would trail the political damagogue to his lair and “ask no quarter and give none.” Political demagogues are a curse the world over, Dawes said. Europe’s unhappiness he attributed in large measure to demagogues. Dawes called for honest discus- sions of public affairs and issued the following challenge: ‘As to the demagogue on the stump, whatever may he his party, I want it distinctly understood that in the coming campaign I ask no quarter and give no quarter.” Dawes Wearies After the Dawes speech the crowd furled its umbrellas and filed into the house for the handshaking, which lasted an hour and left Dawes frankly weary. Butler will leave for Washington on Friday where he will discuss plans for the campaign with Presi- dent Coolidge. : Butler refused to discuss the rumors of disagreement among leaders of/he campaign, stat- ing an amicable adjustment had al- ready been made. 17 KILLED IN BERLIN Trolley Car Runs Away and Crashes Into Wall. DAWES BEGINSCAMPAIGN FOR

VICE PRESIDENTDeclares War on Dema-

gogues as Be Talks toNeighbors in Rain,

By Vnited BrestCHICAGO, June 18.—Charles G.

Dawes, explosive Republican vicepresidential nominee, nas leaped intothe campaign without '.Writing forofficial notification of his nomination.

“Dawes just had to say some-thing,” William M. Butler, chairmanof the national Republican commit-tee, remarked with a broad smile,'"so he said it.”

Stands in RainStanding in a heavy rain, with

water streaming down his baredhead and into the collar of a raincoat, Dawes told a gathering ofmen and women on the east lawn ofhis Evanston home that he wouldtrail the political damagogue to hislair and “ask no quarter and givenone.”

Political demagogues are a cursethe world over, Dawes said. Europe’sunhappiness he attributed in largemeasure to demagogues.

Dawes called for honest discus-sions of public affairs and issued thefollowing challenge:

‘As to the demagogue on thestump, whatever may he his party,I want it distinctly understood thatin the coming campaign I ask noquarter and give no quarter.”

Dawes WeariesAfter the Dawes speech the crowd

furled its umbrellas and filed intothe house for the handshaking, which lasted an hour and left Dawesfrankly weary.

Butler will leave for Washingtonon Friday where he will discussplans for the campaign with Presi-dent Coolidge. : Butler refused todiscuss the rumors of disagreementamong leaders of/he campaign, stat-ing an amicable adjustment had al-ready been made.
