T he “Seeing Red” show turned out to be a grand way to start out 2016, with a plethora of redness both real and imagined. I must pay homage to all the artists and the AGP members who are responsible for hanging this exhibit because it really flows well from one end of the gallery to the other. Mehran Ghaffari is a multi-talented artist whose sculptural piece titled “Thinking Red” is one of the best in the show. Another favorite of mine is Leah M.W. De Nola’s “The Line”, an intriguing acrylic piece that leaves me wanting to know more about the people in the painting. Tom Vukmanic presents us with a wonderful acrylic piece that is surely one of the favorites of the exhibit, a delightfully simple painting titled “Hombre Rojo Con Burro”. I think it is the eyes of the man and the burro that really make this brilliant piece work for me. Another work that surely will be seen by others beside me as one of the best in the show is Gisela Rabdau’s exciting abstract oil work titled “Contemplation”. I love the balance of light and dark in the composition of this piece and I admire how the artist was able to add that little bold touch of yellow which really makes a special declaration to me. An artist who needs no introduction to anyone who has spent very much time as an Art Guild of Pacifica member, artist Richard Herring gives us another one of his enchanting acrylic on canvas works with a couple of delightful characters titled “Rotkäpchen (Little Red Riding Hood)”. Michael Schnee “Motel”

Maybe it’s fromhaving grown up inOklahoma, butDeborah Corsini’swedge weave tapestrywork titled “Trail ofTears” really resonatesand touches somethinginside me. Myphotograph reallydoesn’t do it justice andyou must see this piece in person.

I was told thatin the past 27years, long timeAGP memberLinda Dever hasnever had herart mentioned inthe DirtyPalette, so let’sput an end to

this drought once and for all! Linda’s mesmerizingpiece titled, “Heart Broken” is a very captivatingmixed media piece whose bold circular strokes can’t

help but drawin theobserver to anunmistakablybroken heart. GlenDillion Bakeris the pureembodimentof aphotographerand I havealways been a

cheerleader ofhis work and Ialways lookforward toseeing what hesubmits forthe AGPexhibits. In hispiece titled“UndergroundLight Show”,Glen shows usthe wonder of mother nature as seen through his eyesas he captures the beauty in this inkjet print. Many artists chose flowers as the focal point of redin this exhibit but not many accomplished the task so

delightfully as JudyQuitoriano in herphoto titled “RedRose Duet”.

As anewtopographicsphotographyfanatic, I wasutterly enchanted

with Michael Schnee’s archival digital print titled“Motel”. From the banal arrangement of the doors andwindows, to the weedy parking lot and utility lines, topped with the minimal lettering of the motel itself, Iam in love with it all!

From the home of Dr. Who, Daniele Derenzibrings us an acrylicon canvas piecetitled “A Forest inGallifrey”depicting thesilhouettes of treesagainst the fieryburnt orange sky ofthe Doctor’shomeland.

If you haven’tbeen able to make it to the show yet you have untilSunday February 21st at 5 pm, I promise you that thisis one show you do not want to miss!

AGP SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

Sanchez Art Center Gallery StaffingScheduling Transition

Since the first days of the art center almost 20years ago, Mary Harris has been scheduling the vol-unteers to staff our galleries. This has been an in-valuable service, because without volunteers to staffthe galleries the doors are closed when visitorscome to see the artwork. Mary set a very high stan-dard for keeping our galleries open and running withvolunteers staffing. No one could turn down Marywhen she called. In the last year Mary has been

having issues with her eyes that make it difficult forher to read the list of AGP members phone num-bers, which made it difficult to call members toschedule staffing. Help was needed. As of the first of this year Charlotte Seekamp is tak-ing over the job of scheduling the volunteers forstaffing the galleries. In addition to signing up vol-unteers when members drop off their artwork forthe shows and occasionally making staffing requestsby phone, Charlotte has opened an email account toreach out to members more easily when a cancella-tion opens up a vacancy at the last minute. So ifyou get an email from the Art Guild of Pacifica withthe email address [email protected] open that email and read it and respond. With your help, Charlotte will try to keep up theamazingly high standards that Mary has set and thegalleries will always be open when you want to visit.

Color - rosemary allen SANCHEZ MAIN GALLERY!

Rosemary Allen “Rare Bird”

Rosemary Allen “Color Series #2”Art Guild of Pacifica members will be thrilled tobe able to enjoy artist Rosemary Allen’s workin the Main Gallery of the Sanchez Art Center.

This delightful exhibit will be from both Allen’s ColorSeries and her Abstract Series and is curated by DannaHall, exhibitions coordinator for the Mendocino ArtCenter. In her Statement of Purpose, Allen states that thisyear her emphasis is color and that though herbrushstrokes, she keeps the pigments traveling but allthe while keeping her compositions as simple aspossible, and thus allowing the color itself to star asthe main subject. I believe she has most certainly

succeeded in herefforts. The abstractpieces in this showhave all been donebefore 2015 and theyare the artists sincereexplorations of spaceand colorrelationships.

I consider myselfquite lucky to have theopportunity to observeand study Allen’spaintings in the SACMain Gallery anddiscovered her wonderful figure paintings on herwebsite at www.rosemaryallen.com. Be sure andattend her artist talk on Sunday Feb. 21st at 4 pm.
