Little said at that time he could not “prejudge what might happen in the future.” He did say, however, if there was a situation in Dallas where beds were full, that lack of beds could spill over into Ellis County. His office said Mon- day regarding Dallas beds, “DSHS and local medical facilities have surge plans to assist in expanding capacity if necessary.” According to Judge Little, the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council has a strong part- nership, and tracks hospital beds and capacity to account for these surge plans. Texas is divided into 22 regions called trauma ser- vice areas (TSAs). “Residents should contin- ue to wear masks, practice physical distancing, sanitize regularly, and stay home unless it is necessary,” Judge Little concluded. “Each of us must take personal re- sponsibility and preventative action to help ease the poten- tial strain on our health care facilities across the county. Together, we will win and defeat COVID-19.” These days even some drivers license say Mable, but that would be wrong. In 1921 the street was named and spelled Mabel. Williams says the original plat shows, “Mabel,” and “that is the therefore the cor- rect spelling” he concluded. “The TxDot MUTC (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control) had been updated and requires us to change the size of our street signs – what we really like to call an “unfunded mandate,” and so we are changing our signs. Many, many years ago, maybe around 25 or even longer, the City ordered new street signs, which was delivered mis-spelled (Mable) not sure if the city was refunded any money but (the city) decided to use the signs anyway, that’s how it went from Ma-bel to Mable.”

One of the questions Judge Little had been asked several weeks ago regarding bed capacity in Ellis County was what would happen if hospitals locally began to fill up? Little said at that time he could not “prejudge what might happen in the future.” He did say, however, if there was a situation in Dallas where beds were full, that lack of beds could spill over into Ellis County. His office said Mon-day regarding Dallas beds, “DSHS and local medical facilities have surge plans to assist in expanding capacity if necessary.”
According to Judge Little, the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council has a strong part-nership, and tracks hospital beds and capacity to account for these surge plans. Texas is divided into 22 regions called trauma ser-vice areas (TSAs). “Residents should contin-ue to wear masks, practice physical distancing, sanitize regularly, and stay home unless it is necessary,” Judge Little concluded. “Each of us must take personal re-sponsibility and preventative action to help ease the poten-tial strain on our health care facilities across the county. Together, we will win and defeat COVID-19.”
These days even some drivers license say Mable, but that would be wrong. In 1921 the street was named and spelled Mabel. Williams says the original plat shows, “Mabel,” and “that is the therefore the cor-rect spelling” he concluded. “The TxDot MUTC (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control) had been updated and requires us to change the size of our street signs – what we really like to call an “unfunded mandate,” and so we are changing our signs. That is where this began.” And now it is the end – the 99-year-old street name can finally come to terms with its identity crisis.
