“We, as a 6 th grade team, strive to have all of our students by the end of the year be able to develop life skills such as the abilities to analyze, critique, problem solve and be inquirers, open minded and caring individuals of society. “ 6 th Grade Newsletter March 2019 “Through close readings of various texts with multiple perspectives, students will be able to have engaging discussions, which will allow them to express their claim in an informed argumentative writing and respectful members of society.” Reminders: Come to school every day! 3 Tardies = Detention. Doors open at 7:30 for students and if they enter after 7:45, they are tardy! Students are working very hard to earn rewards when the class has 100% attendance! Summer school is mandatory for those students who have missed 9 or more days of school! Math: Students will learn about solving algebraic expressions. It is imperative that your child practices their multiplication tables at home daily. Students will have math homework every night, and as we continue to progress through the curriculum, students will have more challenging assignments that will take them a bit longer to complete. Students are expected to finish all their assignments on time. Homework directly influences their grades and educational development. Students will begin to use Compass Learning, an online program that is directly aligned with each student individual NWEA goals. This will be used in addition to IXL every week. It is essential for our students to complete these tasks to meet their future Spring goal. We are having productive discussions and writing around these pieces of text and how it relates to our world today. In the next few weeks, we will be moving into a poetry unit where we will analyze with our rhetorical tools various poetry and most of the literary devices entailed with it. We have mastered quite a few affixes; please quiz your child! As always, please remind your child to read, study affixes and vocabulary as well as to complete their weekly Reading Plus! Students are working to answer the question, “Why do some rainstorms have more rain than others?” As we start chapter 2, we will focus on if temperature affects the amount of rain. I will be staying late every Wednesday to help students. If your student is struggling or missing work, I would love for them to make plans to stay after school on Wednesday to work with me. Writing: Hello Parents! March is an exciting month for our young poets and authors. We will take a field trip to the American Writers Museum to explore the world of American Literature. Upon returning from the trip, we will conclude our poetry unit with a poetry celebration. To honor and appreciate the creativity and complexity of the genre, your poet will recite a published poem. Presentations will be in front of their peers and will be a project grade (30% of your child’s 3rd quarter grade). Ask your writer to practice reciting the poem they have chosen in front of the mirror, out loud in their room, and in front of you. The more practice, the better prepared the student will be for their presentation. After presentations, the students will dive in to the literary works of Sandra Cisneros, Latinax Chicago author. They will read her book House on Mango Street with the following question in mind: How does my community shape my identity? They will answer the questions in an argumentative essay. Escritura:. Hola padres! Marzo es un mes emocionante para

nuestros poetas y autores jóvenes. Vamos a tomar un paseo al

American Writers Museum para explorar el mundo de la

literatura estadounidense. Al regresar del viaje, concluiremos

nuestra unidad de poesía con una celebración de poesía. Para

honrar y apreciar la creatividad y la complejidad del género, su

poeta recitará un poema publicado. Las presentaciones se

llevarán a cabo frente a sus compañeros y serán una

calificación del proyecto (30% del tercer trimestre de su hijo).

Pídale a su escritor que practique recitando el poema que

eligieron frente al espejo, en voz alta en su habitación y frente

a usted. Mientras más práctica, mejor preparado estará el

estudiante para su presentación. Después de las

presentaciones, los estudiantes se sumergirán en las obras

literarias de Sandra Cisneros, autora de Latinax Chicago.

Leerán su libro House on Mango Street con la siguiente

pregunta en mente: ¿Cómo determina mi comunidad mi

identidad? Responderán las preguntas en un ensayo

varios textos con múltiples

perspectivas, los estudiantes podrán

tener discusiones atractivas, que les

permitirán expresar su reclamo en una

escritura argumentativa informada y

miembros respetuosos de la sociedad.”

Matemáticas: Los estudiantes comenzarán a resolver expresiones algebraicas. Es imperativo que su hijo/hija practique sus tablas de multiplicación en casa todos los días. Los estudiantes tendrán tareas de matemáticas todas las noches, y con cada avance en el plan de estudios, tendrán asignaciones más difíciles que les tomará un poco más tiempo de completar. Se espera que los estudiantes terminen todas sus tareas a tiempo ya que la tarea directamente influye sus calificaciones y su desarrollo educativo. Los estudiantes comenzarán a utilizar Compass Learning, un programa en línea que está directamente alineado con las metas individuales de NWEA de cada estudiante. Esto se utilizará además de IXL cada semana. Es esencial que nuestros estudiantes completen estas tareas para alcanzar su meta futura de la primavera.

Lectura: Actualmente, estamos analizando dibujos animados

políticos y anuncios a través de dispositivos retóricos. Estamos teniendo discusiones productivas y escribiendo sobre estos textos y cómo está relacionado con nuestro mundo actual. En las próximas semanas, nos mudaremos a una unidad de poesía donde analizaremos con nuestras herramientas retóricas la poesía y la mayoría de los dispositivos literarios que conlleva. Hemos dominado bastantes afijos; por favor pregúntele a su hijo. Como siempre, recuérdele a su hijo que lea, estudie los afijos y el vocabulario, ¡así como completar su lectura semanal de Reading Plus!

Ciencia: En esta unidad, estamos aprendiendo

sobre los patrones del clima. Los estudiantes

están trabajando para responder la pregunta,

"¿Por qué algunas tormentas de lluvia tienen más

lluvia que otras?" Al comenzar el capítulo 2, nos

centraremos en si la temperatura afecta la

cantidad de lluvia. Me quedaré tarde todos los

miércoles para ayudar a los estudiantes. Si su

estudiante tiene dificultades o le falta trabajo, me
