Congratulations to both teams who demonstrated superior team work and represented our school with pride. The judges were very impressed with our students and announced the boys team as the invitees to the state finals. After the event, they realised their mistake and contacted Mr Fletcher to correct the error. Well done to our girlsteam, Space Mateswho will be representing our school at these finals on 16 December. We wish you well and hope you have a lot of fun! TOMs Offered to Years 4 to 6 in 2020: This year a number of students engaged in training their minds to be creative and innovative to solve problems in a performance forum. TOMs (Tournament Of The Minds) is a program designed to encourage students to work collaboratively to solve a problem in a, time boundsituation. To ensure we provide opportunities for our students to engage in higher order thinking and challenge them we are offering this program next year. Mrs Ritchie will be working with students that have been selected for 70 minutes every week, with the intention students will participate in the TOMs competition late in Term 3. To be involved students were asked to self-nominate then get their teacher to endorse their expression of interest. The program has a limited number of participants as we can only enter three teams of seven students into the competitions. Highest Number of Parent Volunteers Acknowledged: On Thursday, we held our, Thank Youmorning tea for all the parents, caregivers and grandparents who have volunteered in our classrooms this year. We had over 60 people confirm their attendance to this event. To all the parents and caregivers who were unable to come due to other commitments, THANK YOU! Your involvement in your childs education is the most valuable use of your time. We appreciate you support and look forward to working with you again in 2020. Dangerous Carpark Behaviour: Thank you to the many parents who respect the City of Armadale parking laws and adhere to their requirements. Thank you also to the parents who use the Butler Pass Carpark in a safe manner. Unfortunately, we have some parents and caregivers using the staff carpark again. Staff have had a couple of near misses as children are running behind cars unsupervised. The carpark is becoming congested as it was not designed for you to use a drop off and pick up zone and we have Child Care buses collecting children for the Early Childhood area of our school. Please, refrain from this unsafe behaviour. SIZZLING SCIENCE SNIPPET

Room 6 has been busy exploring how we can physically change different materials. We discovered that we can bend, twist and stretch some materials to change their appearance. We also conducted an interesting experiment using warm water to melt M&Ms. You will be amazed at what we discovered! We wrote a procedure so that you can try it at home! Rainbow M&Ms: You will need, M&Ms, warm water, a white plate and an adult to help you. Firstly arrange the M&Ms into a circle in the middle of a plate. Be sure to make sure the M&Ms are not touching. Secondly, collect some warm water from the tap and pour a thin layer of water onto the plate. You should have just enough water to cover the bottom of the plate. Thirdly, watch closely to see what happens. Be very careful not to bump the plate!

CHAPLAIN’S CHAT-Rearview Mirror or Windscreen?

Yes, I know I am stating the obvious, but Christmas has nearly arrived. It’s a time to take a break from the everyday, to sit back and relax for a while without guilt or hesitation. It’s a time to do things which replenish our energy, our emotions and our spirit. It’s also a time to count our blessings, to mourn our losses, and to look ahead. Christmas gives us the opportunity to stop and reflect on our year. It’s kind of like looking in the rearview mirror whilst driving – we see where we have been. This is important personal reflection, however, if we only look to the past, then we are bound to crash into what is in front of us. Looking forward through the windscreen is also important as it shows us the future which lies ahead. Using both the rearview mirror and the windscreen helps us see life in a more balanced way. So, remember to look back and forward this Christmas whilst you relax your body, reflect on the important things, and renew your spirit. Christmas blessings to you all, Mr C (Chaplain)

FIRST LEGO LEAGUE-CLIFTON CHAOS AND SPACE MATES

On Sunday, 1 December, two teams of Year 4, 5 and 6 students and their coaches, Mr Fletcher and

Ms Gabriel, went to Armadale Senior High School to compete in the ‘FIRST Lego League’ regional

tournament. It is a worldwide STEM competition for students aged 9-16 years. ‘Clifton Chaos’ and the

‘Space Mates’ presented their projects, which look at problems in our local community, to a panel of

judges. They also competed in robot games where they used coding to complete missions. The students

did a fantastic job of representing our school and the Space Mates were successful in winning the

Presentation Award for their amazing project presentation. The Space Mates have also been invited to

compete at the national tournament at Curtin University. We all wish them good luck when they compete

again on Saturday, 14 December!
