The three predominate colours on my chosen magazine are red, white and black.
Similarly in the magazine there are three main fonts used on the cover. The first highlights the key headlines and kickers, whilst the second covers the cover lines. Lastly the third font is used for the anchorage from the headline. This is done in order to highlight importance.
The photograph is shown with a simple white background, which contrasts greatly with the black of the jackets they are both wearing, along with the red headline writing.
All the important kickers and headlines are in the same font and colour. Furthermore the left third is only used for text, whereas the right third is used for the photograph and the end of the main headline.

How front covers are conceived and laid out

How a magazine ‘speaks’ to its readers
![Page 9: 6 b magazine conventions (students)](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/546b1620af795954498b711f/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Direct mode of address can appear ‘in yer face’, serious, warm…
Indirect mode of address can be mysterious, lively, sombre…
Creates a wacky, fun image, sharing an identity with the reader that offers the ‘independence’ of indie music.
Enigma – what are they getting up to now?

Reader relationship (mode of address) Attitude Language (words and phrases) Enigmas
The subjects are in direct mode of address, whilst depicting quite a serious character. This may be done in order to interact directly with the audience.
Despite there not being a common type of language used, it could be said there is an enigma with the photo. This is because the subjects are not giving any clear expressions, emotions or views.
