Dogs-They love nature. They love to sniff grass, play, get wet, roll around on the ground and prance around with friends. But, alas, growing urbanisation has led to severe dearth of space, leaving our canine comrades with no option but to make do with restrictive apartment rooms for play, or at best, with stingy little patches of green for gardens. Recognising their need for freedom and leashless play time in the open, concerned dog lovers have established dedicated dog parks in various international cities, in order to allow their four legged friends the leisure of free space. Parks with modern art, pristine pools and ponds, and colourful agility courses, allure dogs, with their green grassy acres and crystal clear water bodies. Not only do these dog parks cater for dogs, they take special care to caterfor all sizes of dogs, with most offering fenced off areas for smaller dogs to avoid cases of canine bullying!

Some of the parks are so beautiful and serene, so pure and inviting that I’m very sure they would cause many of us sitting here in India to gasp with envy. Yours truly, for one, is the colour green at the moment. I wish that India would have such beautiful dedicated dog parks — not just a couple of square feet of sod and benches, but an authentic park, with wide acres and lush flora. Although, there are a few dog parks in the country now, most of them are dog parks only in name, as they are basically human parks, where dogs are allowed to visit for a couple of hours on Sundays. What we need is dedicated dog parks, at least in metro cities, where space is a major issue, to provide dogs with respite from dreary apartment life. Municipal Corporations of India, are you listening?
