On behalf of the ACNP committee I would like to invite all nurses, nurse practitioners, nursepractitioner candidates as well as thoseinterested in nurse practitioner issues, to join usat the ACNP National Conference to be held inAdelaide from 6 – 8 October 2011.

The theme of the conference is “NursePractitioners – Coming of Age” which celebrates our past achievements and looksforward to future challenges for the NursePractitioner, in the framework of healthcaredelivery to all Australians.

Major themes will include:

We are excited to announce that we havesecured Donna Deirs, an international speakerof great note, plus a line up of home grownnational speakers with an internationalreputation.

Donna Diers PhD, RN, FAANDonna Diers is the Annie W. Goodrich ProfessorEmeritus and Lecturer in Nursing at the YaleSchool of Nursing and Senior ClinicalCoordinator, Decision Support, Yale-New HavenHealth System. She also holds Adjunct Professorappointments at the University of Technology,Sydney, Australia and the University of Sydney.

In the United States, Professor Diers is identifiedwith the emergence of clinical nursing researchmethodologies, as she wrote the first book onthat subject. She is also recognized for her workon the policy and politics of advanced practicenursing (nurse practitioner and nurse-midwifery).In Australia, her work with casemix (applicationsof AR-DRG-type information for clinical practiceand operational management) is particularly wellknown. She was Dean of the Yale School ofNursing from 1972 to 1985. Her publicationshave appeared in all major nursing journals in theUSA and in many journals in health services inthe US and Australia. She was Editor of Image -Journal of Nursing Scholarship for eight years,and serves as manuscript reviewer to a numberof professional journals in nursing and healthservices. A popular public speaker, ProfessorDiers also consults and teaches on writing forpublication. Her book, “Speaking of Nursing ...Narratives of Practice, Research, Policy and theProfession” received the AJN Book of the YearAward in 2005.
