KNIGHT FOUNDATION SERVICE AMBASSADOR STIPEND The Center is happy to announce the Knight Foundation Service Ambassador Stipend Program! This program provides a $1,000 financial reward or $500 conference stipend to students who have a proven commitment to service in the community. These stipends are available to all currently enrolled undergraduate students who are engaged in the service component of the Garnet and Gold Scholar Society. The deadline to apply for Summer 2013 is June 28 at 5pm. The next deadline will be in early Fall 2013. More information can be found at http://thecenter.fsu.edu/knight. MENTORS NEEDED FOR FOSTER CHILDREN A mentor is a person who offers support and shares stories of personal experiences. This simple act of being there makes a world of difference to a child who may never have had a true friend before. Foster youth are often overwhelmed by a rotating cast of caseworkers, foster parents, clinicians, legal advocates, and other adults. A mentor serves as an island in the storm—a continuous presence and source of support. Consistency is important in the lives of foster care children. The Myron L. Rolle Wellness and Leadership Academy is looking for such mentors this summer in Starke, Florida. If you think you have what it takes to be a mentor at this incredible summer camp please stop by the Center for Leadership and Social Change and pick up an application at the front desk or e-mail [email protected] VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR WESTMINSTER OAKS Are you interested in brightening someone’s day? ART ALLEYS Art Alley participants have cleaned and greened two alleyways in the Gaines Street and All Saints area in Tallahassee with the goal of creating “art/plant zones” and other spaces that broadly relate to the region. Volunteers and students are beginning to research other green spaces in the neighborhood and collaborate with local businesses and land owners to determine the most eco-friendly environment to create. Volunteers are needed to assist with watering, weeding, planting and planning events and also interacting with the homeless that frequent the alleys and surrounding neighborhood. Depending on the number of volunteers, we may plan an art event this summer, 2013. Every First Friday this summer we will set up the Doodle Cart and provide other interactive art activities off Gaines Street. NONPROFIT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM Do you want to make a lasting contribution to a local nonprofit while earning 6 or 12 elective credits? The Center for Leadership and Social Change is now accepting applications for the Fall 2013 Nonprofit Internship Program. This competitive program is designed to give students the opportunity to work half-time or full- time in the community and develop professional skills while earning credit. Previous interns have worked in: child development, juvenile justice, health services, homelessness, hunger, environment, government and more. Applications are due by July 12th. CHILDREN’S HOME SOCIETY INTERNSHIP Development / Marketing, North Central Division: Assist Development Team with fundraising activities and special events, meetings, receptions for the Board of Directors, Chefs’ Sampler, Back to School Drive, and Fall fundraiser; Assist with marketing of Champions for Children campaign; Develop and maintain fundraising and/or public relations campaigns; Prepare materials that promote programs and services at CHSFL; Write and distribute news releases and work with media outlets to ensure coverage of CHS produced events and activities; Write and produce materials and correspondence for CHS activities; Develop and maintain positive working relationships with local media, CHS staff, volunteers, and Board members; Make phone calls, assist with contact and scheduling; Compile mailings; Type or perform data entry using a computer; Consult the Volunteer/Intern Coordinator or Program Supervisor in matters where professional assistance is needed; Maintain accurate record of internship hours. Qualifications / Skills: Must be in a Master’s or Bachelor’s level Communications, Marketing, Advertising, PR, Hospitality, or related program of study; Experience or interest in working with fundraising, event planning, social media, traditional media, marketing, graphic design, and/or public relations; Passionate about children and making a difference; Ability to adhere to the agency’s policy on confidentiality; Demonstrate sensitivity to persons of different educational, economic, cultural, or racial backgrounds and different personality types; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to commit to 15+ hours per week for one semester (approx. 4 months).

CHILDREN’S HOME SOCIETY INTERNSHIP Foster Home Management, North Central Division: Foster Care Counselor interns (licensing foster parents) assist with supervision of foster homes, initial foster home studies, support activities for foster families, and participate in MAPP trainings; Maintain confidentiality of the client’s personal matters and adhere to the agency’s policy on confidentiality; Demonstrate sensitivity to persons of different educational, economic, cultural, or racial backgrounds and different personality types; Make phone calls, assist with client contact and scheduling; Compile mailings; Type or perform data entry using a computer; Make photocopies and fax materials; Sort and file documents; Assist Program Staff with intake and screening processes; Assist Program Staff in scheduling and conducting meetings and monitoring progress; Consult the Volunteer/Intern Coordinator or Program Supervisor in matters where professional assistance is needed; Maintain accurate record of internship hours. GRACE MISSION EPISCOPAL CHURCH - PROJECT MANAGER Grace Mission is looking for a project manager to recruit resources, coordinate, and oversee the production of the following marketing materials: a 3-5 minute agency video, agency website revisions, handbooks, forms, etc. This will be a temporary, part-time job that can be started as soon as possible and will run through the end of July. Hours are negotiable; must see project through from conception to completion. Must utilize great written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Pay will be negotiated. (Volunteers In Service To America) Health Coordinator. This position will work under the supervision of the Program Coordinator and in tandem with Site Coordinators to assist in the development of a health services team to increase access to health related services at the school site for those students who have the most pressing health-related needs. This position requires a minimum of 35 hours per week of service, which may include some evenings and weekends. To be considered: you must be 18 years of age; have some college preferred with evidence toward a degree; have strong written and oral communication skills; have basic computer skills such Microsoft Word and Excel, e-mail, and internet research; have the ability to manage time and set priorities; ability to organize information and documents; possess a strong commitment to community service; understand resource development or have a strong desire to learn; ability to work independently and as part of a team. If selected, you must attend a mandatory pre-service training in Atlanta from July 22-25, 2013 (fully paid) and report to first day of service on July 26, 2013. This position requires a one year commitment, from July 26, 2013-July 26, 2014.
