ADULT FORMATION UPDATE
“The Holy Father, in his recent encyclical The Church and the Eucharist, is calling for height-ened appreciation of this beautiful gift from God through adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.” It is the heart of who we are as Catholics: the Re-al Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. But how many Catholics in the pews participate in Eucharistic Adoration, or even really understand what it is? Approaching the presence of Jesus can be daunting for some, but the fruits of prayers and contemplation before the Eucharist can trans-form a person’s spiritual life.
Stroke Scan Plus will be at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church on December 13, to provide life-saving, wellness ultrasound screenings. It is important to perform preventive maintenance for ourselves yearly. Do you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease, stroke, abdominal aneurysm or internal cancers? If so, do not miss this opportunity for early detection of a possibly serious disease. These screenings are typically NOT performed at your annual check-up, and insurance companies may not pay for them unless you are symptomatic. Diagnostic versions of these screenings cost thousands of dollars in a hospital. Stroke Scan Plus will be offering them to you for $139 for all 7 combined ultrasound screenings (Stroke, AAA, AFIB & organs). Insurance is NOT necessary and appointments are limited. Stroke Scan will be available at the the church for you to register on November 30 & December 1, 2019 or please call 832-437-7355 or toll free 1-866-935-7226 to schedule an appointment today for you or a loved one. The screenings will take place in/at the Parish Hall. Prevention is your key to quality health! www.strokescan.com. ____________________________________________
A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
In today’s Gospel we hear of the rulers who sneered at Jesus, the soldiers who jeered at him, the criminal who reviled him, and the people who just stood by. At our own parish church the cross stands high. Yet, every Sunday there are those who sit in front of it and are not moved by it. There are people who walk right by the cross, unmoved by it. Perhaps they’ve walked by it so many times they no longer give it a second thought. Could it be they are unmoved because the heart of this unbelieving thief is in them? Good stewards walk by the cross, notice it and ask themselves: “All this you did for me, what have I done for you?”
THANKSGIVING
Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse. - Henry Van Dyke
PRAYER FOR HURRICANE PROTECTION
O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control. The Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awaken from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster.
During this hurricane season we turn to you, O Loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. 0 Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us.
Amen. _____________________________________

The chancery has been made aware of local financial scams. Please advise your parishioners, that should they receive such, to disregard, then immediately contact the priest alerting him of the scam. ________________________________________
OF KINGS AND KINGSHIP
Americans have an uncomfortable relationship with kings. The American Revolution was fought for independence from King George, after all. Nonetheless, today every Catholic church around the world celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Today’s feast invites us to look beyond our national loyalties and rejoice in our primary identity. We are children of God in Jesus, Christ the King. Our readings help us consider what it’s like to belong to God’s kingdom. The book of Samuel captures the deep longing of the Israelites for a king to shepherd them. Saint Paul reminds the Colossians that we belong to the kingdom of Christ, whose power he praises in a beautiful hymn. Finally, Luke’s Gospel calls to mind the kind of king Jesus chooses to be—a suffering servant, a man for others. By sacrificing his life for us, Jesus throws open the gates of Paradise. _____________________________________________ TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Today’s solemnity, the final feast of the Church year,
is a youngster as feasts go. In 1925, Pope Pius XI was distressed by global political upheaval and the de-Christianizing of society. That year was a “Holy Year,” keyed to the sixteen hundredth anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, when the words “and of his kingdom there will be no end” were added to the Creed. The Pope explained that although most feasts had developed over many centuries, the Church sometimes provided a new feast to address new needs. He pointed to the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, showing Christ’s love and compassion in a time when many people embraced a cold and gloomy spirituality. Originally on the last Sunday of October, in the late 1960s the solemnity of Christ the King was moved to the last Sunday of the year.
Fresh from baptism’s waters, we are anointed with chrism “as Christ was anointed priest, prophet, and king.” This feast is a key to our identity. On this feast, we recognize Christ as a king who breaks the usual mold of kinship, and who shapes his kingdom with our hands, our words, our deeds of love and service.
