OUT OF THIS WORLD DANCE by Katherine Many Students went to the PTO Out of this World Dance. Kai, a kindergartener in Ms. Sullivan’s class, attended this wonderful dance as a rocketship. He chose this great costume because he loves rockets and thought it was a great opportunity to dress up as one. Kai claimed that he liked the music best. He also enjoyed dancing to his favorite songs with other students at the dance. One thing that Kai would like to add to the dance is more astronauts. He says that it would be better if more had been there. One of Kai’s favorite costumes at the dance was an alien costume. He said he couldn’t choose his favorite alien, though. If he could choose, he would make the next dance a Beach Party dance. He also says that this was the first school dance he had been to and would like to come to future dances as well.
OUT OF THIS WORLD DANCE by Rylee Callie, a 5th grader in Ms. White’s class, loved the dance, especially the food and decorations. Her only concern was the volume of the music. She thought it was a bit loud. Her costume was ”The Queen of Stars.” She wanted to shine like a star. She also adored the family that had hats that looked like the aliens from Toy Story. Even though the theme of this dance was quite amazing, Callie would also like a Hawaiian dance. She has been to many Bennett dances and looks forward to more!
BOOK FAIR by Sophia Madelyn is in 2nd grade in Ms. Mosley’s class. She went to the Book Fair with her Grandmother. She bought Pete the Cat, Miss Smith Under the Ocean, Frozen, and Weird but True. She likes fiction books. Madelyn likes the Book Fair because she can get books that aren’t in the library. Baby Mouse books are something she would add to the Book Fair. She has been to the Book Fair before and will come again she says, because she loves the books it has.
BOOK FAIR by Annie It was a busy day at the Book Fair, with parents and kids lined up, when we ran into Skyler, a 5th grader in Ms. Brown’s class. He was seen browsing with his Mom. Skyler bought Weird but True, 300 Outrageous Facts about Animals, Hitler’s Secret, and a book about the Civil War. Skyler reported ”my favorite thing about the Book Fair, is that they have many cool books to choose from.” He wouldn’t change anything about the Book Fair. This isn’t the first time Skyler has attended the Book Fair. He has enjoyed it in the past too, and hopes to return in the future.

THANKSGIVING FEAST by Aiden Thanksgiving Feast is a special time for everybody, especially Danni. She is in Ms. Taylor’s 1st grade class. Danni was eating with her Aunt Joe at Bennett’s Feast. Her Aunt brought her food from McDonald’s. Danni loves Feast because she gets to eat with her family. She doesn’t know why we celebrate Thanksgiving, but she definitely would choose to be an Indian at the First Thanksgiving. Danni is thankful for her family and her Aunt Joe.
THANKSGIVING FEAST by Cailey Noah is a 1st grader in Ms. Taylor’s class. He was eating with his mother when I asked him about the Feast. He said his mother brought him Subway for lunch. This isn’t the first Feast Noah has been to. He loves Bennett Thanksgiving Feast because he gets to go to the Book Fair. He also likes that family members can come. Noah is thankful for his family. If he could choose to be an Indian or a Pilgrim at the First Thanksgiving, he would be an Indian.
FREAKY FACTOID #2 by Elizabeth Masayuki Sumida is a professor of biology at Japan’ s Hiroshima University. He is the one who bred the frog to be a humane learning tool. Sumida stated “you can watch organs of the same frog over its entire life time, as you don’t have to dissect it.” Dissecting animals for science experiments has caused problems world-‐wide, prompting companies to create cruelty-‐free alternatives. Only 1 in 16 frogs end up see-‐through. Sumida’s team hasn’t yet passed the trait to offspring.
FREAKY FACTOID #1 by Terrance Question: What is the greatest amount of change you can have, but still not be able to make change for a dollar? Answer: $1.19 (3 quarters, 4 dimes, 4 pennies)
”Missing Sock” by Kailey, 3rd Grade I left my sock in a stinky drawer. It was there for a week, but not anymore. It had disappeared, so had my coat. I figured out, it was eaten by a goat. I chased the goat and lost my glove. It was flown away by a dove. I jumped for it, and there went my shoe. Turns out, it got filled with some goo. It was stuck and my hat went away. Gee, this is an annoying day!

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT by Preston She breeds dogs, helps horses, and even squirrels! Her name is Alannah. She visits the nursing home by her house and donates food to the homeless and the elderly. She tries to help others whenever she can. Alannah is also very talented. She is Level 3 in gymnastics. That is amazing for her age! Alannah is also a good role model for others. She was Bennett Bear of the Month for September.
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT by Brooklyn Cole is a kindergarnter with an outstanding heart. He took action when he saw a problem. He decided to show that you are never too young to make a difference. Generously, he donated to his preschool food drive. The food was given to the Allen Food Pantry. Cole also donated books to underprivelaged students in Allen ISD. He saw that some kids don’t have the privelages he has. Cole was awarded Bear of the Month for Courage, was Mystery Artist, and Secret Athlete. He is a role-‐model for all Bennett students. It’s good to know a fellow student is making a big difference.
STUDENT SURVEY by Heidi What is your favorite fiction genre? After the results were tallied, the Bennett student body most prefers humor at 26% of the vote. Followed closely by mystery at 24% of the vote. The students least preferred science fiction with a vote of 7%. Also close to the bottom was historical fiction with only 8% of the vote. The results of the survey were not very surprising to me, because I think most kids prefer to laugh and be adventurous or solve a problem or mystery. The only real surprise for me was I thought historical fiction would be last instead of science fiction.
EDITORIAL by Nate Should sports outside of school be allowed in school? Sports such as football, soccer, and baseball can all be dangerous. But, if you play a sport outside of school it would be just as dangerous as in school. So, if the two are almost the same why shouldn’t they be allowed in school? Some parents might say it is good for their kids because it gives them different people to cooperate with and get to know better. A downside is, that if you’re hurt in the school sport you might not be able to play that sport outside of school on your real team. Also, some kids might not be able to throw a football but can kick a soccer ball. If you were to sign up for volleyball and realize you are better at baseball, it would be a waste of your money. Do I think sports such as soccer and baseball should be allowed? Yes, I think it could be a chance to get to know people, practice your sport, and have fun. It might encourage people to be more active and push themselves to a higher standard.
FASHION FORUM FOR BOYS by Matti If you are a boy, I would not pull your shorts up too high or down too low because it is really weird and does not look appropriate. I would just wear a plaid shirt with funky colors like blue, green, and red. Or a North Face jacket with shorts. Or on warm days, just wear shorts and a nice t-‐shirt. And on cool days, just wear jeans with a nice long-‐sleeve shirt. The key is to keep it simple, clean and appropriate. Follow that simple rule and you will always look nice. You can also wear basketball shorts and a t-‐shirt. For shoes, any tennis shoes will be fine (Nike, Under Armor, or Reebok). That’s what boys usually wear!!! Also don’t forget the rainbow loom bracelets. They are all the rage!
FASHION FORUM FOR GIRLS by Olivia Fashion is cool, but you don’t always have to dress to impress. After all, who are you really trying to impress? Just wear what you want or take advice from me and just wear a really cute baggy t-‐shirt with black leggings and boots! If I were you, I would not trust any of those magazines that tell you to wear all of those really weird and expensive clothes. For us girls, I would just wear a plain white t-‐shirt with jeans and a nice blazer (which is always cute any time of year). Or, wear a loose t-‐shirt with light jeans or leggings with most any type of boots that you may own.
