INVITATION
The 5th International Workshop on Applica-tions of Computational Mechanics in Geote-chnical Engineering is a forum for discussingthe state-of-the art and future trends in thearea of computational mechanics applied togeotechnical problems. The previous editionsof the Workshop took place in Rio deJaneiro (1991 and 1994), Porto (1998) andOuro Preto (2003). It has been our purposeto join renowned researchers in an informalmeeting where people can exchange viewsand point out perspectives to the relevantsubjects.
The Workshop will provide an excellent op-portunity to hold high level discussions andto define novel approaches for the solutionof relevant engineering problems. Themeeting is open to public in general. Wehope to attract researchers, academics,students, software developers, and practicalengineers of all areas of Geotechnics.
The meeting will be held in Guimarães,Portugal. Guimarães is an historical city, thefirst capital of Portugal, designated asUNESCO World Heritage. A wide range ofchoices for technical and leisure tours willbe available.
PLACE AND DATE
The thematic sessions will be located in theEngineering School of the University ofMinho (UM), Guimarães, Portugal.
The Workshop will take place from Sunday 1to Wednesday 4 April, 2007 at the Conven-tion Centre of the Engineering School, UM.
