Reading Levels:
At BFES, we use the Fountas and Pinnell system to assess
students independent and instructional reading levels. •The benchmark assessment system by F and P assesses students’ reading accuracy,
fluency, and comprehension.
•The comprehension questions that are asked have been updated
by Fountas and Pinnell to better align with the reading learning progressions that
guide our workshop teaching. These questions give us a clearer picture of student
comprehension at each of the levels of text complexity.
•These F and P levels will be shared at Fall Conferences. The instructional reading
level is really only for the teacher to select text and support individuals' development
in reading behaviors and strategies as text becomes more challenging and
complex.
