Stable Food Supply

A Stable Food Supply is very important in our Modern day lives. Not everyone in the U.S. has a stable food supply. Most people do but not everyone. A stable food supply is important in a civilization because food is one of the priorities to survival. If we didn’t have a stable food supply, we wouldn’t be able to stay in one place and we would have to keep moving around. This would cause a lot of problems. There would also be a lot of arguments over this. People would be fighting over some of the spots that had a more stable food supply and it would feel like all of America was at war.

Stable Food SupplyMy first example of a stable food supply is a super market. Super markets give the community a place to go and they will always know there will be enough food for them to eat. This helps a community because food is very important in everyone’s lives.

Social Structure

A social structure keeps the civilization working

correctly.

A social structure can be a lot of different things. It

can be the different classes in our civilization such

as upper, middle and lower class but some people

disagree about classifying people that way. There

have been many arguments over this matter.

Social StructureMy example of Social Structure in the U.S. is the Occupy Wall Street movement.Occupy Wall Street is a protest movement that began on September 17, 2011 in New York City’s Wall Street financial district. The protests are against social and economic inequality and high unemployment. The protests in New York City have sparked similar Occupy protests and movements about equality all around the world. The people that were protesting think it is unfair that they get treated differently just because they have less money. This is my example of the Social Structure in the U.S.

Government

The government in a civilization makes sure that everything

is under control. This is important to a civilization because it

helps to keep the U.S. as one nation.

In the U.S.A., if you are 18 years old or older, then you are

allowed to vote for the president of the United States of

America. This is good because then, there aren’t as many

arguments about the president because the majority of the

people voted for him.

Government

Beneath the umbrella are the citizens of the U.S. An umbrella protects you from the rain just as the government protects the citizens of the U.S. from

any harm.

The U.S. Government is like an umbrella!

On the top of the umbrella are the three branches of our government; Judicial, Legislative and Executive.

All three of the branches depend on each other to cooperate and work together. The government is like the head of the U.S. and protects the citizens by enforcing all laws.

GovernmentThe Judicial Branch

The Judicial branch includes the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has nine members, hears hundreds of cases a year, and makes important decisions that sometimes have wide-ranging effects on the U.S. legal system. It is also the highest court in the U.S. This is the Supreme Court building.

Government

The Legislative branch includes the Senate. Voters elect 2 senators from each state. Only the Senate can approve or reject treaties and presidential nominations for government offices. This is the Capitol Building where all the Senators meet.

The Legislative Branch

Government

The final branch is the Executive Branch which includes the president. The president is the manager of the Federal Government. The president makes sure that the government runs smoothly and all laws are obeyed. Our current president is Barack Obama. This is the White House where the president and his family live.

Religious System

There are many types of religions and cultures in our U.S. civilization. Religion is “a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency , usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.”

Religious System

A mosque is a place of worship for followers of Islam (Muslim). This is BadshahiMosque

A temple is a place of worship for followers of Judaism. This is Congregation B’nai Israel.

A church is a place of worship for followers of Christianity. This is St. Bernard’s Church.

Highly Developed Ways of Life

I think that this characteristic of our U.S.A. civilization is the least important characteristic because it just makes life more luxurious. Although it includes education which is very important, survival is more important.

Page 15: 5L Zoe Civilization

Highly Developed Ways of LifeEducation is one example of a highly developed way of life in a civilization. My example of a highly developed way of life in our U.S. civilization is Gill St. Bernard’s School which is the school we go to. This is where we get all of our education. Some people get homeschooled which means their parents are their teachers and their home is their school.

Highly Developed Ways of LifeThe Empire State Building is another example of a highly developed way of life. The Empire State Building opened on May 1, 1931. It is located in New York City. The Empire State Building is 1,250 feet tall. At the time that it was built, it was the tallest tower in the world. The Empire State Building is a highly developed way of life because it is architecture. Architecture is highly developed because it went from tents all the way to the empire state building and architecture.

Technology

Technology helps to create a civilization in a lot of ways. There are a lot of different types of technology. We use it as a social network so you can talk to people. Being able to talk to people will help make friends and then, the friends will be able to help each other when one of them is in need. We can use it for email, we cook with it, we can travel in it, we can do lots of things with technology and it helps the civilization out in so many ways. Also, technology is getting more advanced as the hour passes.

Written Communication

Written communication is very helpful in our civilization. We have mail so if you want to send a letter to someone, you can send it in the mail and it will go straight to their mailbox. We also have newspapers so you can hear the latest news and know what is going on.

Page 20: 5L Zoe Civilization

Written CommunicationMy example of written communication in the U.S. is the newspaper. As you can see in the picture, this is a dated newspaper but if you weren’t in New York City and you hadn’t heard about the U.S. being attacked, you could get the newspaper and know that this had happened. This means that if you read the newspaper, then you will be up to date on all important current events.

Page 21: 5L Zoe Civilization

Written Communication

My second example of written communication in the U.S. is mail and mailboxes. Mail is very handy when you need to get a letter to someone far away or even nearby. With mail, you don’t have to do anything. The mail truck will deliver the mail in that person’s mailbox and then they just have to open the mailbox and it is right there. You get letters in the mail and even magazines. Mail makes communicating with other people a piece of cake.

Page 22: 5L Zoe Civilization

ConclusionAs you can see, all the characteristics are needed to make up our U.S. civilization and we use those characteristics almost every day yet we don’t realize it.
