SMARTLOCK offers a range of solu-tions based on electronic devicesand/or relays to ensure the safe loc-king of routes and all the traditionalfunctions of an interlocking system.

ADVANTIK Automatic Train Control(ATC) systems dedicated to mainlinerailways operation.

MASTRIA Automatic Train Control(ATC) systems dedicated to mass transitoperation, including Automatic TrainProtection, Automatic Train Operation, and all associates facilities. The ATC system can also be fully inte-grated with Interlocking and TrainSupervision functions.

ICONIS Automatic Train Supervision(ATS), also called Integrated ElectronicControl System, integrating all activitiesrequired for train control, train supervi-sion or monitoring, management func-tions, SCADA requirements, mainte-nance or alarm centralization andsupervision etc.

The following documentationcovers the whole range ofALSTOM Interlocking SMARTLOCK.

The range of ALSTOM Signaling pro-ducts covers mainline and mass transitbusiness.

In the field of mainline railways,ALSTOM offers a global solution(ATLAS) for the highest densities ofoperation, including high speed lines,inter-city and regional lines, as well asfor low-density lines, freight railroadsand single-track operations.

For mass transit ALSTOM offers a glo-bal solution (URBALIS) for heavymetro and suburban networks, as wellas for light rail systems.

These solutions are modular, adaptableand designed to be upgradable to clo-sely follow the evolution of railwayrequirements.

To meet these requirements ALSTOM hasdeveloped 4 categories of products :

SMARTWAY Conventional SignalingProducts, also simply called “SignalingProducts” covering all basic needs inthe following fields :• train detection, i.e. track circuits, axle

counters, wheel detection etc.• point equipment, point (switch)

machines, locking devices, bladecontrollers

• level (grade) crossing equipment• signals• relays and accessories• miscellaneous

Maintenability and Maintenance

All diagnostic tools run on a standardPC connected on Ethernet network.Depending on the needs, it can belocal and/or remote.

Massive investment has enabled Alstomto provide its customers with high quali-ty tools:• Full graphical interface• Diagnostic of the interlocking equip-

ment• Easy fault location: with simple clicks

on the screen the maintainer willzoom from the field lay-out to buil-ding, rack and finally to the faulty-card or cable.

• Easy maintenance procedure: the“hyper-text on-line help” allows easyretrieval of information and docu-mentation related to the specificcontext of the maintenance operation(procedures, manuals, drawings, etc.)

• Preventive diagnostic of field equip-ment (signals, points, track-circuits,etc.)

The highest standards of safety

SMARTLOCK achieves the highest stan-dards of safety in the Railway industry.

Based on NISAL (Numerically integra-ted Safety Assurance Logic) technology, already used in more than 400 inter-locking systems in the world, SMART-LOCK demonstrates SIL 4.

Its safety case is fully compliant withCENELEC standards.

All the maintenance facilities are acces-sible remotely from any point in the

world with the required level of integri-ty through standard PC technology.Several layers of maintenance expertisecan easily be defined with, for instance, the most knowledgeable maintainersable to take the control over localmaintenance in case of complex pro-blems.For customers who wish, Alstom caneven assure the role of the most know-ledgeable maintainer during the trai-ning period.

The value of real-time diagnostic toolsSMARTLOCK is the new product in the ALSTOM interlocking range (ASCV, VPI, SSI, CMT). Based on ASCVkernel and tools, its takes advantage of the most recent technologies and integrates the best featuresof VPI and SSI to provide customers the best value at minimal cost.

Easy to use

Several Man Machine Interface solu-tions are provided to meet operationalneeds:• Remote or local control• Safe terminal with functional key-

board• High quality terminal and schematic

display

The Man Machine Interfaces use openarchitecture based on an EthernetNetwork. They are all programmed inobject oriented languages that makethe customisation to specific needs easyand efficient.

Easy to interface

SMARTLOCK can be easily interfacedwith other subsystems like AutomaticTrain Control or Automatic TrainSupervision thanks to efficient seriallinks:• standard interfaces: RS 232, V24-28,

V3, etc.• standard protocols: TCP-IP, HDLC,

BSC• use of commercial off the shelf com-

munication equipment

To interface with the field equipmentSMARTLOCK offers a wide range ofremote and centralized activators. When the field equipment needs nochange, SMARTLOCK can be simply plugin your relay interface. If remote equip-ment needs to be controlled, the customermay wish to use remote I/Os or a mixarchitecture to reduce cable cost.

A guaranteed investment forthe future

SMARTLOCK is a new family of inter-locking with enhanced life cycle andmigration capability. Its modular natureensures enables the customers futureupgrades at minimum cost.Special features include:• high functional modularity: each

module can be replaced and upgra-ded without requiring any modifica-tion of the adjacent modules

• safety of calculation kernel and net-work independent from the hardwareand from the medium of communi-cation

• use of standard multi-sourced compo-nents and bus system

• secured source of components bysharing the technical choices of majorelectronics players: army and telecom

By acquiring a SMARTLOCK electronicinterlocking the customers will receivethe best support from a world leader insignaling.

Easy to implement and modifyA comprehensive set of tools enablesthe customer to easily modify and testthe logic of his interlocking.

The customer can even enter its ownsignalling rules in a traditional relaytype representation. No specialist com-puter knowledge is required.

Once these signalling rules are introdu-ced, the logic data of the differentapplications are produced automatical-ly from the track layout in a CAD for-mat. A complete set of testing tools arethen provided to test the logic in a userfriendly environment.

If it is required to add a loop or asignal, all that is necessary to do is tointroduce the modification in the CADlay-out and, of course, test the finalresult. With SMARTLOCK, you keep the pro-cess and the cost of modificationsunder your control.

Easy to implement and modify

SMARTLOCK will meet the highestrequirements in terms of calculationand response time thanks to its:

• powerful calculation kernel based ona State-of-the-art micro-processor

• cycle time of 500ms (reading ofinputs + calculation + setting of theoutputs)

Its (optional) hot stand-by system givesa very high availability:

• Switch over-time in less than 30 ms• No impact on operation:

- points can continue to be moved- route change possible- no flashing signals- no effect at MMI level

High performances
