World-renowned artist Rudolf Bauer was so driven tocreate that he sketched on scraps of paper in a Naziprison. Yet he stopped painting forever when a feuderupted between him, his patron and benefactor SolomonGuggenheim, and Bauer’s lifetime love, Baroness HillaRebay – one of Guggenheim’s most trusted curators.The Guggenheim Museum, originally built to houseBauer’s works, opened without a single Bauer exhibited.

Bauer is a compelling and controversial imaginedface-off between Bauer and the two women he lovedmost, as each confronts the passions of his life and art.

Considered by many art historians and critics to havehad a major impact on modern artists like JacksonPollock and William de Kooning, many of Bauer’spaintings remain banished to this day in the basementof the Guggenheim Museum.
